The Tutor

Bai Xin arrived at Tengying Entertainment for the first time.

The company wasn't big—just a few hundred square meters—and there were barely any people inside.

The place felt empty.

Uncle Chen didn't seem to be lying; he was really just there, sitting on a small stool, cleaning the windows.

This was completely different from the big boss image she had in her mind.

Shouldn't people at his level be commanding with a wave of their hand, altering the fates of countless individuals?

Like her—a pitiful little extra in the entertainment industry.

"Uncle, why are you cleaning the windows yourself?"

"I didn't hire anyone. If I don't clean it myself, who else will?"

"Then why not hire someone? Cleaning ladies aren't expensive."

"The people coming and going here are celebrities. If I hire a stranger and they leak something, what do I do?"

Chen Pingsheng sighed, "Still too new to this industry. Can't even find a trustworthy cleaning lady."

"Uncle, how about me?"

Bai Xin's eyes lit up, shining brightly.

Cleaning windows at a big shot's place? That was clearly an opportunity!

Every wipe to the left and right was paving her path to success.

"You?"

Chen Pingsheng glanced her up and down—early twenties, delicate face, beautiful features, and a great figure.

"You're not filming? Coming to my place to clean windows—doesn't that feel like a waste?"

"A waste? No way!"

Bai Xin said excitedly, "Uncle, I was a cleaning expert back in school! There wasn't a single corner in the classroom I couldn't clean. Trust me, I do a great job!"

"That so? How much per month?"

"Uncle, don't be so formal! As your number one fan, how could I possibly charge you for this?"

Forget a salary—she'd be willing to pay for the chance.

As long as he didn't try to take advantage of her, she'd do any dirty or tiring job.

Bai Xin was hardworking—not every Beijing Film Academy student was like Song Wu, with their nose in the air.

She was diligent.

"Alright then. Since you're willing, I won't treat you unfairly. Four thousand a month. Lunch included, but not breakfast or dinner."

"Thank you, Uncle!"

Bai Xin bent at a seventy-five-degree angle in gratitude. Fortunately, the weather was cold, and she was dressed properly.

Otherwise, something might've slipped out.

"By the way, how are your grades?"

Chen Pingsheng was facing a major headache—his daughter An An's studies.

Her mother tried tutoring her, but it always ended in chaos every night.

No matter how gentle his wife usually was, she turned into a fierce tigress when it came to teaching their daughter.

As for himself—one, he couldn't bear to hit the child.

And two, his own education wasn't exactly stellar. A middle school graduate teaching a first grader? What could he do?

Even getting into a vocational school was a struggle for him.

Bai Xin didn't know why he was asking, but she answered truthfully: "My grades are great! I was always in the top three in elementary school, top five in middle school, and ranked first throughout high school."

"You're a genius?"

Chen Pingsheng was surprised.

Bai Xin proudly nodded. "Of course! I've never been bad at academics!"

"Can you tutor?"

Chen Pingsheng said, "My daughter is six this year. In kindergarten, it didn't matter, but now in first grade, she's struggling to keep up. I've been thinking about hiring a tutor."

Becoming a big boss's tutor?

Her little cleaning lady job just got an instant promotion—within a day, she went from washing windows to being a teacher.

Bai Xin, oh Bai Xin, the fortune teller wasn't lying when they said you'd meet someone important this year.

No wonder you're destined to blow up next year.

"Uncle, you found the right person! If there's one thing I'm great at, it's tutoring kids!"

"Alright, you're hired."

Chen Pingsheng nodded. "The tutoring job includes dinner. Eighty lessons a month, one hundred per lesson."

Each lesson was forty-five minutes.

Tutoring actually paid pretty well.

Bai Xin was overjoyed—finally, her meal problem was solved.

Back when she was just an extra, most people had to work at least one or two side jobs.

Now she was both a cleaning lady and a tutor, and at a big boss's house no less.

That was pretty great.

On the way home, Chen Pingsheng drove his convertible Bentley.

His Aston Martin had been taken by his wife, who was still excited about it.

The afternoon was free. The author of Immortal Flower had been invited to a hotel to work on an adaptation.

Before the script was completed, there wasn't much work at Tengying Entertainment.

Even once the script was ready, it would need rounds of revisions, finalization, then more revisions, before becoming a solid screenplay.

The filming of Lu Zhen's Legend still had about a month to go. Zhao Liying and Yang Jiandu were busy finishing their last shoots.

Right now, things were quite relaxed.

The key goal for the next month was to find a profitable project.

Spending the thirty million in his hands wisely could help him build more connections in the entertainment industry.

At the Shijingshan villa, Chen An An had already been picked up by Song Yanxi.

The little girl's first task every day after coming home was watering the tiny tree she planted herself.

Then, she'd think about moving the flowers she had planted in the west corner to the east wall.

Every day, she was just that silly.

She loved everything—except studying.

"Chen An An, come here."

The little girl was very obedient—except when it came to school. She ran over happily, looked up, and asked, "Dad, is it time to eat?"

"Eat, eat, eat. That's all you know. Have you finished your homework?"

"The teacher didn't assign any today."

"You said the same thing yesterday."

"Yesterday was her birthday, so she gave us the day off."

Chen Pingsheng frowned. "So if it's her mom's birthday tomorrow, do you get another day off?"

An An's eyes sparkled. "How did you know?"

"I also know that the day after is her grandpa's birthday, and the day after that is her great-grandmother's."

"No way. Her great-grandmother passed away last year."

"Heh, An An, you're pretty clever, huh?"

Chen Pingsheng chuckled in exasperation. "Lying, but doing your research first?"

An An giggled sheepishly. As long as she looked dumb enough, Dad wouldn't hit her.

Chen Pingsheng pulled her over and introduced Bai Xin. "An An, let me formally introduce you. Since neither your mom nor I can tutor you, I had to hire a tutor. This is Miss Bai. She's smart enough to get into Qingbei University. She's lowering herself to teach you, so you better appreciate it, got it?"

"Dad, I will definitely appreciate it!"

An An was polite, just like when she was little. She greeted Bai Xin sweetly, "Hello, Miss Bai!"

"An An, you're so adorable!"

Chen Pingsheng nodded. "Mm... studying is adorable too. Rank forty-six in your class."

"At least I'm not last!"

An An said confidently.

Chen Pingsheng exposed her without mercy. "Mm, the last place student is transferring schools the day after tomorrow."

Wait, Fatty was transferring?

Didn't that put a lot of pressure on her?

Without Fatty, how was she supposed to improve?

"Dad, it's just studying! I'll definitely rank forty-five by the end of the semester!"

"I believe you," Chen Pingsheng said sincerely. "Your teacher already notified me—aside from Fatty, another student is transferring too. There will only be forty-four left in class, so you'll be forty-five for sure."

An An's face froze.

This wasn't how parenting was supposed to work!

Just because people left didn't mean it was her fault.

She had improved by one rank!

Even if it was due to external factors, progress was progress!

That kind of improvement deserved encouragement and a reward.

Bai Xin nearly burst out laughing. This father-daughter duo was too entertaining.

An An might look silly, but she was actually quite sharp.

And Uncle Chen—he might seem unreliable, but he truly cared about her.
