Synopsis

It was the turn of the 20th century, and in the Philippine Islands, the fledgling Philippine Republic waited to be crushed by the overwhelming superiority of the American colonial forces.

But John McClain, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, dies and finds himself in the body of the governor of a remote Philippine province in the year 1898. Initially reluctant to take up arms against his former country and skeptical of the chances of success, he eventually decides to fight for the Republic.

Now living his second life as Martín Lardizábal, politico-military governor of Marinduque and armed with modern military knowledge, he will change the course of the Philippine-American War.

I’ll rate this work four for the eFOURt. This is my first novel, and it probably won’t be my best—but I think I did just well enough for this book to at least be worth a try. I’ve always been a big fan of Philippine history and have felt that it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. The current state of the country isn’t exactly a pleasant topic, but there were times in the past when it was truly fascinating—like in the 19th century, when the First Philippine Republic was born. It was the first constitutional republic in Asia, and the Americans crushed it in an intense but short war. This is my attempt to offer a glimpse into that time period, adding a little twist by turning the tables on the Americans. This novel is a full-blown historical drama, which means it will take its time building the world, fleshing out the characters, and raising the stakes. The war won’t come immediately, but when it does, I want it to hit like a hammer. If you have any questions about the novel, feel free to ask below. :)

I am giving this story a FIVE STAR not because it's one of the few RARE historical novels about my country but because of how great the story is written. I hope for longer chapters in the future but I am fine with the stability of the updates. I also like that he was an American isekai'd in Colonial/Republican Philippines. Actually, I think he should open a female corps as well for women who don't have jobs in the three provinces at least for the island's last line of defence and security. Also makes them defend themselves from the American army who are obviously going to r*p* women in occupied territories like the Spaniards did.

I saw the book cover and the Philippine flag, so I got intrigued. The idea of creating this kind of story is amazing, not just unique but a great story as well. Keep it up! I'll read the rest of the chapters when I have time. Mahusay...
