The village prepared for battle. Though many had begun to rebuild, the encounter at the well left no doubt: the entity was not gone. Kara and Reed worked tirelessly to fortify the wards and teach the villagers basic defenses, but Kara's mind was elsewhere.
That night, she had a dream—or perhaps a vision. Evelyn appeared to her, standing in a field of light.
"It won't stop," Evelyn said. "Not until you end it."
"How?" Kara asked desperately. "How do I fight something I can't see?"
"You don't fight it," Evelyn said. "You contain it. You carry it."
Kara woke with a start, her body drenched in sweat. The meaning of Evelyn's words was clear, but the implications were terrifying.

The Final Ritual
Kara approached Miren with her decision the next day. "The entity is tied to me," she said. "If I leave, it will follow. But if I can contain it—trap it within myself—it won't hurt anyone else."
Reed overheard her and immediately protested. "You can't be serious! You don't know what that thing will do to you."
"I don't have a choice," Kara said firmly. "This is the only way."
Miren nodded solemnly. "There is a way to bind it. But it is dangerous. And the cost… may be your soul."
"I'm willing to pay it," Kara said.
Reed grabbed her arm, his voice breaking. "Don't do this. There has to be another way."
"If there is, we don't have time to find it," Kara said. "This ends here."

The ritual was performed at the well, under the light of the full moon. Kara stood in the center of a circle of protective symbols, her hands clutching the talisman Reed had given her.
Miren chanted in the old tongue, her voice rising and falling like a song. The shadows stirred, coalescing into the figure Kara had seen before. Its laughter filled the air.
"You cannot contain me," it hissed.
"Watch me," Kara said, her voice fierce.
The ritual reached its climax, and the shadows surged toward Kara, engulfing her. Pain seared through her body as the entity fought against the binding spell, but she held her ground.
In the end, there was a blinding flash of light, and the shadows were gone. Kara collapsed to her knees, her body trembling.
"It's done," Miren said, her voice filled with awe.
Reed rushed to Kara's side, his hands gripping her shoulders. "Kara?"
She opened her eyes slowly. They glowed faintly with an unnatural light, but her voice was her own. "I'm still me," she said. "For now."
