Zeke's Pov

Zeke watched Jannie brush her fingers over her lip and increasingly felt his body temperature rise.

She was so beautiful, and every movement she made was seductive.

"Hey, are you okay? You're burning up!" Jannie looked at him, confused, and Zeke felt her hand on his leg.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I have an abnormal body temperature..." Good one, Zeke. Gosh, he was such an idiot.

"Abnormal body temperature? You know I'm in med school, right?" Jannie said with raised eyebrows, "Yeah, but I'm not that hot. You're probably a bit cold, so I feel warmer than I am," Zeke replied, eager to change the subject.

"JANNIE! OPEN UP!!" A loud, angry voice filled up the apartment.

Jannie jumped when she heard him, and he kept banging on the door.

"Oh, no!" She sighed and quickly got up while shaking.

"Hey, let me take care of this?" Zeke insisted and headed out to the hall.

"No, that would give the wrong impression. Go back into the living room: I got this," Jannie replied. Zeke hesitated but then disappeared.

"What are you doing here, Dorian? We're broken up, remember? You can't just show up like this in the middle of the night, yelling and banging on my door."

"Come on, Jannie. Let me inside, okay? You can't stay mad at me forever; we both know you'll forgive me eventually!"

"No, Dorian. Back off. You're not coming in here, ever! Just leave!"

"Is there someone else? Is that it? Have you been with another guy? Is he here? You fucking whore: let me in!" Zeke heard a commotion and heavy steps entering the apartment.

"Hey, douche! Is it me you're looking for?" Zeke greeted him as he passed him by the kitchen.

"I knew it! You're a fucking whore, Jannie," Dorian screamed, and Zeke felt his wolf circling.

"Hey! Don't ever call her that, ever again!" He replied, eyeing the jerk up!

"Go, Dorian, leave me alone." Jannie pleaded as she entered the kitchen.

"Why? So you can fuck this guy, huh." Dorian yelled and then lunged toward Jannie.

Zeke reacted without a blink, grabbed him by the neck, and threw him into the counter.

"I would think twice about doing that again because I won't hesitate to kill you if you ever try to lay another hand on Jannie," Zeke warned and then glanced over at Jannie, who was visibly scared.

"Fuck, you cracked my head, dude; I'm bleeding," Dorian cried out.

"There is going to be a hell of a lot more bleeding if you repeat what you just did," Zeke replied, furious.

"Fine, man, I'm going," Dorian mumbled as he stood up.

"Apologies to Jannie before you go," Zeke said, pinning him down with his gaze.

"You're serious?" Dorian chuckled, "I'm dead serious," Zeke replied, grabbing him around the neck.

"Let go of me," Dorian said, but Zeke squeezed harder while locking his eyes onto Dorian's. "She's mine, okay? Mine!" Zeke growled lowly, watching Dorian's soul leave his body.

"Zeke, it's okay. Let go of him," Jannie whispered, making Zeke snap out of it. He released Dorian from his hands.

"I'm sorry about this, Jannie," Dorian mumbled and hurriedly left the apartment.

"What the hell was that?" Jannie whispered, and she began backing away.

"I'm sorry; I didn't mean to hurt him or scare you! Hey, I'm not going to hurt you?" Zeke said and walked after her.

"Don't come near me," Jannie uttered nervously, "I don't know who you think you are, but I'm not yours, Zeke. I don't even know you. This was a mistake," Jannie continued, and Zeke's heart sank.

"No, this was not a mistake, Jannie. I understand that you're upset."

"Upset? You just strangled my ex and told him I was yours with a horrifying growling sound? Do you know how scary that was?" She gestured wildly with her hands.

"This whole night had just been so weird. Why did you hold onto me at the club? Taking that vodka shot from me?" Jannie continued, "You were clearly drunk, and I was looking out for you?" Zeke replied,

"Why did you do that? You don't know me?" She shouted, getting more and more upset.

"Because there are many bad people out there; drunk girls are easy prey!" He replied,

"Oh, so I'm an easy, drunk girl now? Did you give us a ride home because you thought I would sleep with you?"

"No, I gave you a ride home because I wanted to ensure you got home safe?" Zeke answered, feeling like he was losing her with every word.

"But why? Why do you care so much? I don't know you. I have never seen you in my life. What am I to you?" she shouted, her confusion causing his heart to ache.

Zeke wanted to grab Jannie and tell her everything, but he knew it would be too overwhelming for her to handle all at once. She might not even believe him. In fact, he wasn't sure he would believe it himself.

"Answer me!" she yelled, stepping closer to him. "WHY?" She shoved him, but he stood firm, like a rock, waiting for her to calm down.

Tears streamed down her beautiful face as she gazed at him. "Hey, calm down, okay?" Zeke whispered, placing his hands on her shoulders gently.

"There's something about you. I feel a connection to you. I want to get to know you and be near you. I can't explain it better than that because I'm also trying to figure it out myself. I know this sounds crazy, but it's the truth," Zeke said, maintaining eye contact.

"I want you to leave now," Jannie whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks. Then she pulled away from him, breaking their connection.
