Several days had passed, and Monet's body was recovering quickly. Doflamingo, aside from his necessary daily greetings and sharing meals with them, mostly left the sisters to themselves. Life for Doflamingo and the two sisters was this ordinary. Though simple, it was perhaps the happiest period the sisters had experienced since their parents' passing. Time always flew by. When Monet was able to move around, Doflamingo took the two sisters to confront the culprit responsible for their injuries.
"Monet, Sugar, today I'm taking you to meet someone," Doflamingo said to them.
"Who is it?" both sisters asked curiously.
"You'll know when we get there."
Doflamingo didn't elaborate, merely leading the way. The two sisters quickly followed his steps. The three of them arrived at the room where Kenn was imprisoned. Bepo wasn't with them; he was probably sleeping somewhere. Kenn, naturally, was not having a good time. Although he hadn't been tortured or beaten severely over these many days, his captors had ignored him completely, only providing food regularly. This filled his heart with great unease.
Creak…
The door opened, and the bright light made Kenn squint as he looked at the newcomers.
"Damn it, you two damn hussies!" Kenn recognized the two sisters. His face turned ugly, his eyes blazing with fury. Without another word, he lunged towards them, completely ignoring Doflamingo.
Monet and Sugar flinched at the sight of Kenn rushing towards them so menacingly, a flicker of fear on their faces. They hadn't expected Doflamingo to bring them to see Kenn. However, remembering Doflamingo was by their side, they felt reassured and didn't move. Doflamingo sneered. Ignorance truly is bliss. He raised a finger and flicked it towards Kenn. Kenn, of course, had no way to dodge. Doflamingo's minor attack sent him crashing to the floor, twitching and incapacitated. Monet watched Doflamingo's action with amazement. Only now did she recall how strange the lightning had been that day. So this was how it was. Understanding dawned, and Monet looked at Doflamingo with deep gratitude.
"This is the person who harmed you. What do you want to do?" Doflamingo didn't even glance at the fallen ant, instead looking at the two sisters with a hint of amusement.
Monet and Sugar certainly loathed Kenn, this butcher, but their hearts were still filled with a reluctance and fear of killing. This made them hesitate to make a decision. Doflamingo, seeing them staring at Kenn with hatred but neither acting nor speaking, changed his tone. "I'll be leaving soon. After I'm gone, if he's still alive, you two definitely won't have an easy time."
Hearing Doflamingo say he was leaving, and after he laid out the stakes, the sisters barely registered his latter words. Their focus was solely on "Doflamingo was leaving." Their faces turned pale, and their hearts filled with unwillingness.
"Big Brother, can you take us with you?" After spending so many days together, Sugar already considered Doflamingo family, like her own older brother. She liked him very much. Hearing Doflamingo say he was leaving, Sugar instantly felt that Kenn, right before her eyes, was no longer terrifying. Her only desire was to go with Doflamingo, not to lose such a warm family member, and not for her sister and herself to be homeless again, to be ridiculed and bullied by others.
Monet also looked at Doflamingo nervously. Over these many days, Doflamingo had given them an immense sense of security, and Monet had, irredeemably, fallen for him. Hearing that Doflamingo was leaving, her heart had shattered. After hearing her sister's question, she hoped for the answer she longed for in her heart; otherwise, the remaining half would break too.
"My enemies are very strong. You two are too weak. I don't want to implicate you," Doflamingo said lightly, not responding to Sugar and Monet's hopeful anticipation.
Although she didn't hear the answer she wished for, Monet's heart relaxed slightly. At least it wasn't an outright rejection.
"We can become strong! We absolutely won't be a burden to you! We want to follow you! Your enemies are our enemies!" Monet quickly blurted out the words in her heart.
"We can become strong! Big Brother's enemies are our enemies!" Sugar added, not wanting to be left behind.
"Really? Even if I were an enemy to the whole world, you would still follow me?" Doflamingo asked in return.
"Even if it means being an enemy to the whole world, I will follow you," Monet declared, her gaze fixed intently on Doflamingo. Doflamingo looked into Monet's golden pupils, which seemed to be filled with a radiant light.
"Me too! Wherever Big Brother goes, I'll go! I don't want to be separated from Big Brother!" Sugar said with deep emotion.
"Fuffuffuffuffu." Doflamingo chuckled but didn't reply.
Under the sisters' nervous and expectant gaze, Doflamingo finally spoke. "I have no need for weaklings."
It was an ambiguous answer, neither a refusal nor an acceptance, yet it was perhaps the best kind of reply.
"I understand," Monet said, hearing Doflamingo's response. She withdrew her gaze from him and fixed it on Kenn, who lay on the floor.
"Big sister?" Sugar was a little confused, not understanding what her sister had understood. She watched as Monet walked towards Kenn.
Sugar watched Monet's actions. Monet raised her small fists and began to punch Kenn in the face, one blow after another.
"Ah! Bastard! You stinking bitch!" Kenn, in pain, spewed obscenities at Monet, cursing her entire ancestry. But Monet paid him no heed, her face icy, as she continued to punch Kenn relentlessly. Even when her own hands were injured, she didn't stop, a stark contrast to the gentle young woman she usually was.
Sugar, witnessing this, wasn't particularly surprised. Instead, she felt a sense of catharsis. Just then, Doflamingo's words echoed in Sugar's ear, like a demon's whisper, ruthless and profound. "Sugar, if you encountered a situation like last time again, would you conquer your fear? Would you dare to stand in front of your sister and protect her? Or would you, just as your sister might expect, abandon her and flee alone, living a wretched life, forever shrouded in shadow?"
"Me?" Hearing Doflamingo's words, Sugar recalled the terrible memories of that day, how helpless they had been, with no one willing to help, until they met Doflamingo.
"What's wrong? What are you hesitating about? Or are you afraid? Were the words you just spoke to me all lies?" Doflamingo continued his psychological offensive.
"No! I absolutely meant it!" Sugar retorted.
"Then how will you protect your sister? How will you face enemies with me? Right now, you don't even dare to approach an enemy before you; you just hide fearfully behind your sister, content to enjoy this protection. Your words just now were false. You're just afraid of losing everything."
"I'm not! My words are all true! And I can do it! I won't be afraid of any enemy! I will do it! Anyone who dares to harm those I care about, even if they die, I won't let them off!" Sugar said fiercely, her usual cute and innocent expression completely gone.
"Just pretty words. You are just such a weakling, a weakling who needs her sister's protection. You need to clearly understand yourself, Sugar. Stop deceiving yourself," Doflamingo continued to fan the flames, completely disregarding Sugar's feelings. Monet, standing by, had also heard the conversation between Doflamingo and Sugar.
However, Monet didn't stop Doflamingo. Having experienced so much, Monet had long since clearly recognized the ugliness of this world. Without power, they were the most insignificant beings, their lives and deaths of no concern to anyone. Even if they died, they would be treated like ants, perhaps even despised in death. She had had enough of such a life. Until she met Doflamingo. He was the ray of sunshine in her heart; he had brought her hope. No matter what he wanted to do, she wanted to be by his side, to contribute her meager strength. Even if it meant becoming an enemy to the entire world, she would stand before him, to die one step ahead of him. Letting Sugar recognize this world sooner was not only beneficial for Sugar herself but also for Doflamingo. Thinking this, Monet naturally didn't intervene. If they wanted to follow Doflamingo, they naturally had to be like Doflamingo; how could they fear enemies? Having become pirates, they had long since cast aside life and death!
"I am not weak! I'm not deceiving myself! I don't need my sister's protection! I will protect myself! I will kill every enemy who dares to stand in my way! I will do it! You just watch, Big Brother!" Sugar said fiercely. After speaking, she walked towards Kenn, picking up a rock along the way, ready to bring it down on his head.
"I will kill all enemies! I will do it!" Sugar muttered, prompting Monet to stop her own actions and look at Sugar with a hint of anticipation.
The sound of thump, thump, thump echoed as Sugar brought the rock down again and again. Kenn, already weak, gradually stopped breathing, his body growing cold. Doflamingo watched all this with a smile, feeling very satisfied with the sisters' performance. As long as Sugar could overcome her fear, then everything was worthwhile. Doflamingo didn't want Sugar to have such a major flaw after eating a Devil Fruit; even being knocked unconscious was better than being scared unconscious. Being scared into losing consciousness was simply too pathetic.
"We should go home. Aren't you coming?" Doflamingo walked towards the door, leaving only this sentence for the two sisters.
Hearing Doflamingo's words, Monet's heart leaped with joy. She immediately stopped Sugar's continued assault and embraced her comfortingly.
"Sugar, you are the bravest. You are definitely not weak."
"Big sister, I will protect you," Sugar said to Monet, her face stained with blood.
"Good!" Monet smiled with relief, hugging Sugar tighter. Then she said. "Let's hurry and follow. We have a home again."
"A home? That's wonderful."
"Yes, it is. Truly wonderful."
