Alicia sat in her dorm room, staring blankly at the wall as she replayed Aaron's rejection in her mind. The words stung, but she refused to let them break her.
With newfound determination, Alicia threw off her covers and began to pace around her room. She thought about the screening, about the opportunity to prove herself, and about Aaron's challenge.
"I'll show him," Alicia whispered to herself. "I'll pass that screening, and I'll make him regret underestimating me."
Alicia quickly got dressed and made her way to her first class of the day: Screening Preparation. The teacher, Professor Everwood, stood at the front of the classroom, writing on the blackboard.
"Welcome, students," Professor Everwood said, turning to face the class. "Today, we'll be discussing the screening process and what to expect."
Alicia listened intently as Professor Everwood explained the different stages of the screening, the types of challenges they would face, and the importance of strategy and teamwork.
After the class, Alicia met up with her friends, Rachel and Mike, in the courtyard.
"Hey, guys," Alicia said, trying to sound cheerful. "What's up?"
Rachel and Mike exchanged worried glances. "Alicia, we need to talk," Rachel said gently.
"We know you're determined to pass the screening, but we have to face the reality that we might not all make it into the same guild," Mike added.
Alicia's eyes welled up with tears as she thought about the possibility of losing her friends. "I know," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But we have to stay positive. We can't give up now."
Just then, Sophia walked by, overhearing the conversation. She flashed Alicia a mocking smile.
"Looks like someone's worried about being left behind," Sophia said, her voice dripping with malice. "You're not even sure if you'll pass the screening, Alicia. Why bother getting attached to your friends?"
Alicia's face flushed with anger, but she refused to engage with Sophia.
After lunch, Alicia headed to the training grounds, determined to push herself to her limits. She spent hours practicing her combat skills, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't seem to get the hang of it.
As the sun began to set, Alicia made her way to the virtual reality training room. She put on the VR headset and transported herself to a virtual battlefield.
Alicia fought bravely, but she was no match for the virtual monsters. She stumbled, fell, and struggled to get back up.
Just when she thought she couldn't go on, Aaron appeared, watching her from the shadows.
"You're pushing yourself hard, Alicia," Aaron said, his voice low and smooth. "But are you sure it's worth it?"
Alicia's eyes flashed with anger, but she refused to back down. "I'll show you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll pass that screening, and I'll make you regret underestimating me."
Aaron raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I'm looking forward to it," he said, before turning and disappearing into the night.
Alicia watched him go, her heart pounding with determination. She knew she had a long way to go, but she was ready for the challenes.
