Chapter 8: Making A Girl Wait
The passing time felt heavy with hidden emotions that no one dared to express.
Lu Jisu maintained his intense gaze on Urek as his eyes remained impenetrable. A brief spark appeared in his eyes which seemed to contain both curiosity and interest together with a tiny trace of amusement.
The growing whispers transformed into a massive wave of speculation that surrounded them.
"He actually did it... He managed to get Lu Jisu to scan his QR code?"
"That can't be real. She barely acknowledges anyone!"
Urek faced the crowd without any sign of discomfort as he displayed a natural self-assurance. He smiled slightly while stretching his shoulders back to enjoy the current situation.
Urek received a long stare from Rose as she clenched her teeth.
A voice broke the tension.
"Isn't Urek your ex?" Yanyan the friend of Rose shifted her attention to Rose with a concerned expression on her face. "Is there something going on between you two?"
Rose watched the entire scene unfold while her jaw tightened. Her eyes showed disbelief before she concealed it with a fake smile.
"Nothing much," she said, her voice tight. "Just surprised, that's all."
Meanwhile, Urek's amusement deepened. The atmosphere surrounding him contained a mixture of envious looks and admiring glances together with subtle feelings of resentment that all focused on him.
And he loved it.
He released a soft laugh while combing his expertly styled hair as he enjoyed the admiration directed at him.
"Everyone has a fondness for beauty," he mused, his voice smooth, carrying over the murmurs with ease. "So why hide it? When it comes to presenting an impact simple actions can deliver the best results.
Silence followed.
Then.
A person whispered their annoyance about his accurate statement.
People were wondering how he managed to achieve this transformation. The man entered and stole our goddess without any hesitation.
The jealous tone in their voices made Urek ignore them completely.
Suddenly.
[ Relationship Binding Successful: Lu Jisu. ]
[ Lu Jisu's Favorability Increased! ]
A system notification blinked before his eyes.
Urek's smirk deepened.
Not bad. Not bad at all.
As the murmurs continued to ripple through the class, Urek barely paid attention. His focus was elsewhere. on the power he had just unlocked, on the doors that were starting to open before him.
And on Lu Jisu, whose gaze still lingered on him, as if trying to decipher just who exactly he was.
---
The lecture ended, and the students started packing up their belongings. The atmosphere was still buzzing with the shock of Urek's bold approach. Some whispered behind their hands, throwing glances his way, while others outright stared, unable to reconcile the "nobody" they once knew with the confident, striking figure before them.
Urek barely reacted to the attention. With a relaxed posture, he pulled out his phone, scrolling through his notifications as if the world around him had already faded into the background.
Across the room, his friends were huddled together, their eyes flicking between him and each other, exchanging knowing looks.
Then, one of them broke the silence.
"Urek, you really did it, huh?"
Another chimed in, half-laughing. "You actually got Lu Jisu's WeChat. That's insane."
Urek glanced up lazily, his lips quirking at their excitement. "It's just a chat. What's the big deal?"
His words were light, almost dismissive, but that only made his friends react more.
"Just a chat?" One of them gawked. "Dude, do you have any idea how many guys have tried and failed? Lu Jisu never gives out her contact info!"
Rose, who had been oddly quiet the whole time, scoffed silently. "Yeah, yeah, keep bragging while you can. Let's see how long you last."
Her voice carried a sharp edge, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. She refused to look directly at Urek, but the stiffness in her posture gave away her irritation.
Urek's smirk widened, recognizing the frustration buried beneath her actions. Oh? Someone's a little salty.
His friends, on the other hand, were too absorbed in their excitement to notice the tension brewing. One of them playfully elbowed him. "C'mon, man. Be honest. How'd you do it? What's the secret?"
Urek shrugged, slipping his phone into his pocket. "No secret. I just went for it."
A collective groan echoed among them.
"Damn it, that's the worst answer!"
"Seriously, how is that supposed to help us?"
Urek chuckled at their reactions, but before he could respond, a voice rang out from the hallway. Sharp and familiar.
"Urek! What are you doing standing around? I've been waiting for you all day."
Heads turned toward the source.
Kim Jenny stood at the entrance, her presence drawing just as much attention as Lu Jisu had earlier. With effortless grace, she sauntered over, a subtle pout on her lips as she folded her arms.
Urek raised an eyebrow, watching as the entire room tensed. Eyes flicked between him and Jenny, expressions shifting between shock and disbelief.
Oh? Didn't expect this reaction.
Someone whispered, "Isn't she the rich beauty who went shopping with that mysterious guy yesterday?"
Another voice muttered, "Wait... don't tell me... Urek's that guy?"
As the realization sank in, the air grew heavy with a new wave of murmurs.
And Urek, basking in the chaos, couldn't help but chuckle.
---
As Kim Jenny and Urek Han stepped away together, the murmurs of the crowd followed them like a lingering echo. Some whispered in envy, others in awe.
"Did you see that? He just walked away with Jenny, like it was the most natural thing in the world."
"That guy… How is he doing this? First Lu Jisu, now Jenny?"
Urek, walking with his usual relaxed but confident stride, could feel the burning gazes at his back. But he didn't care. If anything, he relished the attention. It was proof that his influence was growing.
Jenny, on the other hand, was in a particularly good mood. She held onto Urek's arm playfully, pressing close enough for their steps to synchronize. Her floral perfume mixed with the crisp autumn air, creating a lingering scent around them.
"Urek," she pouted slightly, tilting her head to look at him, "why did you make me wait so long?"
Urek chuckled softly. "Oh? Was it that long?"
Jenny's grip tightened. "Of course! A beautiful girl like me shouldn't be kept waiting. Do you know how many guys would beg for just a few minutes with me?"
Urek turned his head slightly, his sharp eyes glinting with amusement. "Then why wait for me?"
Jenny paused for a fraction of a second. But instead of answering, she flicked his forehead lightly with her finger. "Because you owe me! And because I was curious to see if you'd actually show up."
Urek smirked. "And? Was it worth the wait?"
Jenny narrowed her eyes, scanning his face as if trying to gauge his sincerity. Then, with a satisfied nod, she grinned. "Hmm… Maybe."
Their casual back-and-forth, filled with teasing undertones, carried a subtle tension that made the surrounding onlookers even more intrigued.
Meanwhile, Rose, who had been watching everything unfold, felt her stomach twist in irritation. Her expression remained calm, but her tightly clenched fists betrayed her feelings.
"Jenny, huh?" she murmured under her breath. "You really think you can just walk off with him like that?"
Rose's gaze darkened as she turned and walked away.
