Lydia was driving alone at night, with her hands on the steering wheel and her eyes fixed on the dark road ahead. The only noise was the engine hum and the melody of a bird that was somewhere off the road, creating a peaceful moment.
Her phone chimed. A smile appeared when she saw who was calling; she knew it was Adex even before looking at her phone. She answered softly, "Hello, darling."
"How was the drive?" Adex asked gently.
"A little tiring, but I'll be home in an hour," she replied.
"That's good," Adex said. "I'll make dinner with your favourite pasta and that sauce you adore."
Lydia smiled, easing some of the tension from the long drive. "You always know how to cheer me up. "What have you been doing?"
"Oh, I was going to text you earlier," Adex chuckled. "John and the rest came by at lunchtime. They said they couldn't let me waste away at home on my birthday."
Lydia smiled despite being tired. "Let me guess—Neyo set it up?"
"Of course. You know him. He said I was getting too 'domesticated' and needed some 'guy time.' They took me to a bar, and we've been there since."
"Sounds like a fun night, but no women around, right?" Lydia asked briefly.
"Hey, believe me, you know I wouldn't do that to my baby," Adex said. "I was thinking about a trip next weekend. I want you to meet my parents and introduce you to them."
"Really?" Lydia asked, surprised.
"Absolutely. I've been looking forward to it," he continued, his voice warm with affection. "I can't wait to introduce you as my wife."
Hearing him say those words made her feel overjoyed, and the thought of being introduced to his parents as his wife made her feel wonderful. Her heart was warm, and she smiled widely. "I wouldn't miss it for anything," she said, a look of excitement lighting up her face.
Lydia sighed and said "And I could use a massage when I get home. My shoulders are killing me after that presentation to the board today, and this long drive isn't helping. Two hours on the road after eight hours of work stress is a lot."
Adex smiled broadly. "I'll have my hands ready for whatever my queen desires."
Adex surprised her delightfully, and they whispered sweet words to each other, cherished their best moments, shared jokes, and enjoyed each other's company. Lydia smiled as she imagined a warm welcome from him. She could almost sense the embrace and warmth of his arms. "I love you," Lydia Said.
"I love you more," Adex whispered.
Their conversation continued through the quiet night. She never wanted the moment to end. She could picture them sitting together, discussing love, life, and everything that mattered in their world.
Adex laughed. "Alright, I'll let you focus on driving home safely. See you soon, my love."
Lydia's cheeks flushed as she smiled softly. She gripped the wheel and continued down the empty road, her headlights cutting through the dark. Though the road was uncertain, the night was filled with possibility, and she couldn't help but grin, anticipating the joy to come.
