The Moment Before
Evelyn stood outside the police station, the cold night air wrapping around her like a silent warning.
Elias was gone.
Locked up.
His reign of terror was over.
But she knew this wasn't the end.
Because Theo didn't know yet.
And when he found out—
He would never forgive her.
She could already picture his face.
The betrayal in his eyes.
The anger.
The heartbreak.
Her hands trembled.
She had made her choice.
But at what cost?
---
Theo's Arrival
The sound of heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway of the police station.
Evelyn turned—
And there he was.
Theo Bennett.
A storm wrapped in a man.
His eyes—cold, sharp, furious—locked onto her.
Kade was right behind him, his expression tense.
Evelyn swallowed.
"Theo—"
He didn't stop.
Didn't slow down.
Didn't hesitate.
He grabbed her wrist and dragged her outside.
Away from everyone.
Away from prying eyes.
Away from anything that could stop what was about to happen.
She barely had time to react before he spun her around, his grip firm but not painful.
His voice was Lethal.
"You did this behind my back."
Evelyn's breath hitched. "Theo, I—"
"You planned this." His jaw clenched. "You went to him. You made a deal."
She didn't deny it.
She couldn't.
"I did AND THEN DESTROED HIM."
A muscle in his jaw twitched. "You betrayed me u hid it I thought we were a thing we loved each other but no."
Those words.
They cut deeper than she expected.
Her heart squeezed. "Theo, I did this for you—"
His laugh was sharp. Bitter.
"For me?" He stepped closer, his voice low and dangerous. "Tell me, Evelyn, did it feel good? U could have dies for god sake"
Her breath caught. "It wasn't like that."
"Wasn't it?" His eyes darkened.
Tears burned her eyes.
"This isn't fair."
"No," Theo snapped. "What isn't fair is that you let me believe I was going to end this. That I was going to protect you."
Evelyn's hands shook. "I didn't want you to get hurt."
Theo exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. His voice dropped, quieter this time.
"And you think I'm not hurting now?"
She flinched.
Because she had never seen this side of Theo before.
Not the dangerous man people feared.
This was something else.
This was theo Bennett, heartbroken.
Theo turned away, exhaling like he was trying to control himself.
Silence stretched between them.
And then—
He whispered, "Tell me one thing, Evelyn."
She held her breath.
"When you went to him… did you regret it?"
The answer was immediate.
"Yes."
He turned back to her. "Then why?"
Her voice cracked.
"Because I couldn't lose you."
Theo's expression faltered for a split second.
Just a second.
Then his walls slammed back up.
He let out a slow breath.
"You already did."
Her chest tightened "Theo—"
"I can't look at you right now." His voice was quiet but firm.
And that hurt more than anything.
Not his anger.
Not his fury.
But the fact that he couldn't even look at her.
Theo took a step back.
Then another.
And then, without another word—
He walked away.
Leaving Evelyn standing there.
Alone.
And completely shattered.
