Chapter 3

Jade sat wrapped in a blanket next to Donavan, her head resting directly on his shoulder.

Seeing me, she furrowed her brow and complained:

"Mr. Frost is making a big fuss over nothing. It's just a cold, but he won't let me drink or go to work. If I hadn't begged him, he wouldn't have even agreed to bring me to this business dinner."

Hearing her say this, Donavan affectionately tapped her nose.

"I don't care what you say, just don't cry when it's time to take your medicine."

The two people before me were clearly a couple deeply in love.

His gentle and witty demeanor was also unfamiliar to me.

I clutched the divorce papers in my hand, feeling an inexplicable sense of acceptance.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Donavan exchanged pleasantries with the business partners.

Then he stepped back and began introducing everyone.

"This is Jade, a department manager at our company."

When introducing me, the business partner's boss slightly furrowed his brow.

"I remember clearly, this young lady was imprisoned for unpaid debts. Mr. Frost, you truly value loyalty and relationships."

Donavan tensed up, glanced at me, then smiled and tacitly agreed.

During the project discussion, Donavan and Jade's seats were pressed closely together. He kept giving me subtle glances, signaling me to proactively deflect drinks from Jade.

During the dinner, someone noticed their intimate gestures and couldn't help but tease:

"Mr. Frost and Miss Stone look so perfect together. I wonder if Mr. Frost is married?"

As soon as the words were spoken, Donavan looked at me, a flicker of hesitation in his eyes.

The next second, we almost said in unison:

"No."

Even though we gave the same answer, he suddenly turned his head, looking at me in shock.

It wasn't until our business partners went to the restroom that he sent me a message:

"It's all just an act, don't take it to heart."

Donavan said it was acting, but I was telling the truth.

After all, he had already signed the divorce papers.

I glanced at the message and flipped my phone face down.

Seeing this, Donavan, sitting across from me, was about to get up and come over, but I turned and headed to the restroom.

Coming out of the stall, I ran into Jade.

She stood with her arms crossed, clearly adopting a victorious stance.

"Scarlett, you're truly pathetic as a woman. To be so despised by your husband, if I were you, I'd be too ashamed to show my face in public.”

I lowered my head and washed my hands, saying coolly:

"That's not something Miss Stone needs to worry about."

After drying my hands, I prepared to leave.

But Jade darted in front of me, blocking my path and looking me up and down.

"Why is the boss's darling still wearing rags?"

"Oh, I forgot. Donavan must have spent all his money buying haute couture for me. Sorry about that."

The luxury brands she wore seemed to constantly remind me of the difference between pennies and millions.

In an instant, the bitterness that had built up in my heart exploded, and I fled in a panic.

Back in the private room, I picked up my bag, ready to leave.

Donavan hurried over to stop me, his tone gentle:

"Don't go yet. I'll take you home later."

I was about to refuse when Jade suddenly burst in, crying and wailing.

It immediately drew everyone's attention.

Donavan let go of me at once and ran over to ask what had happened.

Jade was frantically rummaging through her bag and searching all her pockets.

Then she cried out in shock:

"My custom diamond ring is gone!"

As soon as she said this, everyone in the room started looking for Jade's ring. While searching, she kept muttering to herself:

"This was a birthday gift from Mr. Frost, worth over thirty million dollars. I can't afford to lose it!"
