Chapter 36: Drowning in Revenge

The air turned thick, suffocating. Shadows slithered across the room, growing darker, colder. Ellie's body convulsed as Victoria's fury surged through her, burning like ice in her veins.

Ben stumbled back, his face pale, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "Victoria, please—"

"PLEASE?" Victoria's voice erupted in a deafening wail, shaking the walls. Ellie's body lurched forward, possessed by something primal, vengeful. "That's what I screamed, Ben. That's what I begged when I was drowning!"

The floor beneath them warped, shifting into something wet, something endless. Water rose up from the cracks, pooling around Ben's feet. The sound of splashing filled the room—echoes of the past clawing their way into the present.

Ellie's mind was a warzone. She was still in there, screaming, fighting—but Victoria was stronger.

Ben's hands trembled at his sides. "I—" He swallowed, his voice breaking. "I panicked, Victoria. I didn't know—"

"You knew."

The words were a whisper, a snarl, a death sentence.

Ben gasped as the water climbed higher, now swirling around his knees. His breath turned to mist, the temperature plummeting.

"You watched me struggle," Victoria hissed. "You listened to me choke, to me beg. And then, you walked away."

The water shot up like tendrils, wrapping around Ben's legs, pulling him down. He fell to his knees with a strangled gasp. "Victoria, stop!"

But Victoria was reliving it. And this time, she wasn't the one drowning.

Ellie fought to take control, her mind thrashing against the weight of Victoria's wrath. "Victoria—" she choked out, her voice layered, distorted. "You're hurting me too."

For a split second, the rage flickered.

Then, a cold laugh. "Oh, sweetheart. You were always collateral damage."

Ben's head vanished beneath the water. His screams were muffled, his hands clawing at nothing.

And for the first time, Ellie wondered—

Would Victoria really let him die?
