The jet soared high above the Atlantic, leaving the wild chaos of the jungle behind. But the storm inside Kai's mind only grew stronger.
Five shards. Each one humming with elemental energy — Aether, Stone, Tides, Gale, and now Life. Their combined presence made him feel like a vessel filled to the brim, on the verge of overflowing. His senses were sharper, his mind faster, and yet… heavier.
Jace sat across from him, wiping sweat from his brow. "So... only one more, huh?"
Kai nodded, fingers unconsciously brushing the glowing shards around his neck.
"Spirit," Elias said quietly from his seat near the cockpit. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes were filled with worry.
Kai turned toward him. "What aren't you saying?"
Elias hesitated. Then he sighed. "The Spirit Shard is different. The others test power, control, wisdom, and harmony with the elements. But Spirit… it tests who you are."
Jace frowned. "Like, a psychological thing?"
"Much worse," Elias said grimly. "The Spirit Trial forces you to confront the deepest parts of yourself. Every fear, every regret, every dark thought you've ever had — it will weaponize them against you. If you're not ready, it breaks you."
Kai felt a shiver run down his spine. He had faced storms, mountains, deserts, jungles, and enemies wielding dark magic. But this… this was something deeper, something terrifying.
"Where is it?" Kai asked.
Elias opened a worn leather journal, flipping through pages marked with ancient runes. He pointed to a small, unremarkable island in the North Atlantic.
"It's called Inis Dorchada — The Island of Darkness. Abandoned. Hidden from maps. Only those seeking the Shard ever find it."
Kai exhaled slowly.
"How long?"
"We'll reach the coordinates by dawn," Elias said.
They spent the rest of the flight in silence.
When dawn broke, the plane descended into thick mist.
Below them, the island appeared — a rocky mass surrounded by jagged cliffs and black, churning waters. No vegetation, no birds. Just silence.
They landed on a narrow strip of beach, the plane's engines echoing unnaturally in the still air.
Stepping out, Kai felt the difference immediately. The air was cold, heavy. The mist clung to his skin like icy fingers.
Jace shivered. "I hate this place."
"So do I," Elias muttered.
A stone path led inland, winding between towering cliffs. At the end stood an ancient archway covered in runes.
"This is where I stop," Elias said.
Kai turned to him, surprised.
"I cannot go further. No one can accompany you past this point. The Spirit Trial is faced alone."
Jace clapped Kai on the shoulder. "You got this, man." But his voice betrayed fear.
Kai forced a smile.
He stepped through the archway.
Immediately, the world shifted.
The cliffs vanished.
He stood in an endless void — black, empty, silent.
Then whispers began.
First soft.
Then louder.
"Failure."
"Weak."
"You don't deserve this power."
Kai clenched his fists. "I know who I am."
A shape formed in front of him — his own face. But twisted. Dark eyes, cruel smile.
"You think you're a hero," the twisted version sneered. "You're nothing but a scared boy playing with powers he doesn't understand."
Kai ignored it and stepped forward.
The shade blocked his path.
"Running from your truth? You've always been afraid. Afraid of failing. Afraid of losing control."
Kai stopped. His heart pounded.
The shade morphed into his parents. Their faces pale and cold.
"You let us die."
Kai staggered.
"It wasn't my fault," he whispered.
"But you could've been stronger."
"No!" he shouted.
The void warped.
Suddenly, he was in the burning wreckage of a car crash. Flames roared around him. His mother's scream echoed.
He couldn't move.
The twisted shade appeared again. "You'll fail them all, Kai. Your team. Your friends. The world. Just like you failed us."
Kai dropped to his knees, tears in his eyes.
"I… I didn't know… I couldn't stop it…"
The shade laughed. "You'll never be enough."
The darkness closed in.
But then…
A soft voice echoed.
"You are more than your past."
Kai looked up.
A figure appeared — not a shade, not a memory.
It was… him. But radiant. Calm.
"You carry the pain," the bright version said gently. "But you also carry strength."
The shadows hissed.
Kai stood.
"I'm not perfect. I have regrets. But I choose to protect. I choose to fight."
The dark shade snarled and lunged at him.
Kai didn't flinch.
Instead, he opened his arms.
The shadow struck him — and dissolved into smoke.
Light exploded around him.
The void shattered.
He found himself standing in a stone chamber, the Spirit Shard floating before him — a crystal orb swirling with silver and violet light.
He reached out, and it settled into his palm.
The moment he touched it, he felt… whole.
All his doubts, fears, regrets — they didn't vanish. But they balanced with his hope, courage, and strength.
He stepped back through the archway.
Jace and Elias rushed forward.
"You made it!" Jace exclaimed.
Kai smiled. "All six shards."
The ground trembled.
Elias's face turned grim. "They know."
Across the sea, dark storm clouds gathered.
"The Order is coming," Elias said.
"Let them come," Kai replied, fire in his eyes. "It's time to finish this."
They boarded the plane, racing against the storm.
Elias briefed them during the flight. "The Order's main stronghold is hidden beneath the Arctic ice. That's where they'll take the fight now."
Kai nodded.
He was ready.
They landed on an ice runway at the edge of the Arctic Circle.
An ancient cavern stretched beneath the glacier.
Torches burned with blue flames along icy walls.
The Order waited.
Hundreds of them.
At their center stood a figure in crimson robes.
The Grand Inquisitor.
"Welcome, Kai," the Inquisitor said, his voice smooth as silk. "You have done well, gathering what we could not."
"You won't have them," Kai growled.
The Inquisitor smiled. "It's not your choice anymore."
He raised his staff.
The Order charged.
Kai unleashed the power of the shards.
Winds howled, water surged, stone barriers rose, lightning crackled, and vines erupted from the icy floor.
But the Order's numbers were overwhelming.
Jace fought beside him, hurling enchanted knives and blasting spells.
Elias dueled three warlocks at once, his blade flashing.
But the Inquisitor was untouched.
Kai pushed forward, blasting through lines of enemies.
The Inquisitor met him with a wall of dark energy.
Their powers clashed — light and shadow in a violent explosion.
"You cannot win," the Inquisitor hissed.
Kai gritted his teeth. "Watch me."
The Inquisitor lashed out with shadow tendrils, trying to choke him.
Kai summoned the Spirit Shard's power.
The shadows burned away.
He struck with all six shards combined.
A beam of pure elemental energy hit the Inquisitor, sending him crashing into the icy walls.
But he rose again, laughing.
"You are strong. But I am eternal."
The cavern trembled.
The glacier cracked.
The Inquisitor began chanting in an ancient tongue.
The ice beneath them shattered, revealing a swirling abyss.
From it rose a colossal creature of shadow — ancient, formless, a god of darkness.
Kai's heart pounded.
"This is the end," Elias warned.
"Then we end it together," Kai said.
The creature roared, tendrils lashing out.
Jace was thrown back, slamming into a wall.
Kai faced the monster, shards glowing brightly.
He closed his eyes.
He let the power flow freely.
Aether. Stone. Tides. Gale. Life. Spirit.
All united.
He became light.
The creature shrieked as Kai's form blurred into pure energy.
He struck — a beam of rainbow light piercing the darkness.
The creature roared, dissolving piece by piece.
The Inquisitor screamed as the monster collapsed into nothingness.
The cavern began to collapse.
Kai turned to his friends.
"Go!"
They sprinted toward the exit, ice falling around them.
At the mouth of the cavern, the glacier cracked and crumbled, the stronghold swallowed by the earth.
They emerged onto the frozen plain as the ground rumbled one last time — then stilled.
It was over.
The Order was gone.
The world was safe.
For now.
Kai looked at the horizon.
A new dawn.
A new beginning.
But his journey… was far from over.
