The calm after the storm was deceptive. The skies above the Arctic were clear, and the frozen ocean glistened beneath the weak northern sunlight. But every instinct in Kai's body screamed that this peace was temporary.
The team gathered on the ice platform, breath visible in the cold air. They were exhausted, bruised, and battered — but alive.
Ayla's voice crackled through their comms. "Return to base for debrief. Extraction inbound."
But Miko was still staring at her scanner, frowning.
"Miko?" Kai asked, uneasy.
She didn't answer immediately. Her fingers flew across the holographic interface.
"The Warden's energy signature… it's still present."
Jace groaned. "You've got to be kidding me. We just took down a storm dragon!"
"It's faint," Miko continued, "but it's there. He wasn't destroyed. Just… fragmented."
Kai's stomach sank.
Lira looked toward the horizon. "Where would he go?"
Ves sheathed his blades. "Where all shadows go — somewhere they can rebuild."
Kai clenched his fists. "He's preparing for the next move."
Before they could say more, the extraction ship arrived, descending smoothly onto the ice.
Back at Vanguard HQ
The flight back was filled with silence and tension. They had won the battle, but it felt like only a temporary victory.
In the command room, giant screens displayed world maps littered with energy anomalies. Ayla stood with her arms crossed, flanked by senior analysts and tech officers.
She nodded toward them as they entered. "Good work. But we need to talk about what comes next."
Miko brought up a hologram of the Arctic storm and its collapse. "The Warden was using the Sky Titan as an amplifier. He tried to merge his essence with the Titan, but your intervention forced a rupture. He couldn't hold his form."
"Meaning he's weakened," Ves said.
"For now," Miko agreed. "But the energy fragments we detected… they're heading underground."
Ayla's expression hardened. "We believe he's retreating to ancient vaults. Hidden places where he can absorb dormant energy — and possibly awaken more of these Titans."
Kai exhaled slowly. "How many Titans are there?"
Miko hesitated. "We only had confirmation of three. But… there could be more."
The room fell silent.
Ayla tapped the console. "Vanguard deep archives mention the Core Titan. Buried deep beneath the Earth's crust. If the Warden gets to it…"
Jace finished the thought grimly. "Game over."
Ayla nodded. "We need to find him before he reaches that Titan."
The Plan
For the next several hours, they worked non-stop, poring over ancient maps, dimensional energy readings, and coded fragments from the Warden's previous incursions.
Kai felt the weight of exhaustion in his bones, but he pushed on. He couldn't rest — not while the threat remained.
Miko's voice finally broke the tense silence. "I found something. Ancient coordinates — cross-referencing seismic anomalies and dimensional fractures."
A 3D projection highlighted a region in Siberia.
"A hidden vault beneath the frozen tundra. Sealed for centuries."
Kai nodded. "That's where he's going."
Ayla gave the order without hesitation. "Suit up. You leave within the hour."
The Journey to Siberia
The transport flight was longer this time, and the tension heavier.
Kai sat across from Jace, who was sharpening his blades.
"You ready for this?" Jace asked quietly.
Kai nodded. "We can't let him reach the Core Titan."
Lira placed a hand on Kai's shoulder. "This time… we finish it."
Miko, unusually quiet, finally spoke. "I've been thinking… The Warden's power — it's not just magic or energy manipulation. It's knowledge. He knows ancient systems, old magics, things humanity forgot."
Ves nodded in agreement. "And he's not just reviving Titans. He's using them to rewrite the natural laws."
Kai's shard pulsed faintly. He could feel the truth of it in his bones.
They arrived above the coordinates.
Below them stretched endless ice fields and craggy mountains.
Miko's scans revealed a massive subterranean chamber, hundreds of meters below the surface.
"The vault's protected by an energy shield," she said. "We'll need to breach it manually."
Jace grinned. "That's what I'm here for."
The transport hovered as the team leapt down, landing lightly in the snow.
The air was deathly still.
Kai could feel it — the pressure in the atmosphere, the hum beneath the ice.
They approached a fissure that led into darkness.
"This is it," Ves said softly.
Into the Vault
They descended slowly, the walls around them carved with ancient runes.
The deeper they went, the stronger the energy became.
Finally, they reached a vast underground chamber.
In the center, a massive stone structure pulsed with faint blue light — the vault's heart.
And standing before it was the Warden.
His form was fragmented, shifting between shadow and solid shape, but his presence was undeniable.
"You are persistent," the Warden rasped, voice like cracked stone.
Kai stepped forward. "We won't let you reach the Core Titan."
The Warden laughed — a hollow, broken sound. "You think you can stop what has been set in motion for millennia?"
He raised a hand, and the runes on the walls flared to life. The chamber began to shift, ancient mechanisms grinding into place.
"We will reshape this world," the Warden hissed. "And you — you will witness its rebirth."
The team sprang into action.
Jace and Ves engaged the Warden directly, blades flashing, energy crackling.
Lira froze portions of the chamber to slow the shifting mechanisms.
Miko hacked into the vault's systems, trying to sever the Warden's control.
Kai charged toward the stone heart, his shard resonating.
But the Warden was faster. Tendrils of shadow lashed out, forcing Kai back.
"You cannot win," the Warden snarled.
Kai's eyes blazed. "Watch me."
He unleashed a surge of heat energy, burning through the tendrils. Jace and Ves slammed into the Warden from both sides, forcing him to retreat momentarily.
Miko shouted. "I've almost got it — but I need more time!"
Lira covered her, launching icicles to disrupt the Warden's attacks.
Kai pressed forward, placing his hands on the vault's heart. His shard linked with the ancient mechanism, feeding it pure energy.
The chamber began to shake violently.
But the Warden screamed in fury and lashed out with everything he had.
A wave of shadow energy hit the team, knocking everyone back.
Kai struggled to rise.
The Warden towered over him, his form stabilizing.
"You lose," the Warden whispered.
But then a light flared in the chamber.
Miko had done it.
The vault's protective systems activated, severing the Warden's connection.
The villain shrieked, his form unraveling.
Kai surged forward, delivering one final blow — channeling all his shard's power into the Warden's fragmented essence.
There was a blinding flash.
And then silence.
The End?
The team slowly gathered, breathless.
The Warden was gone.
For now.
Kai could still feel lingering echoes of his energy, but the immediate threat was neutralized.
They returned to the surface.
The sky above was peaceful.
Jace clapped Kai on the back. "You did it."
Kai shook his head. "We did."
But even as they boarded the transport, Kai's gaze lingered on the horizon.
This wasn't over.
There was more to come.
And he would be ready.
