Chapter 8: The Aftermath of Deception.

POV: Kang Ji-ah (FL)

The moment I stepped out of that dark, suffocating room, I felt like I could finally breathe again.

But freedom came with a price.

My own twin sister had betrayed me.

My own mother had orchestrated this nightmare.

And now, I had to face the truth—nothing would ever be the same again.

---

A Confrontation Long Overdue

"Ahn Jae-hyun, stop right there," my mother's cold voice rang out.

She stood at the entrance of the warehouse, her eyes sharp, her lips curled into a smirk.

Beside her, Seo-ah looked shaken.

"This is between us, Ji-ah. Don't bring him into it," Seo-ah whispered, her voice pleading.

Don't bring him into it?

I let out a bitter laugh.

"You stole my life, Seo-ah. And you expected me to just accept it?" I snapped.

Her lips trembled, but she didn't answer.

Our mother—our so-called mother—stepped forward.

"You should be thanking me, Ji-ah," she said smoothly. "If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have a place in this world."

My blood turned cold.

"Excuse me?"

"I gave you an identity," she continued, tilting her head. "Do you really think your father and stepmother would have raised you if they knew you weren't their real daughter?"

---

The Realization

The words hit me like a slap.

I knew she was my biological mother.

I knew Seo-ah and I were not truly our stepmother's daughters.

But now… she was implying something more.

Ahn Jae-hyun stiffened beside me.

"Ji-ah," he murmured, gripping my hand tightly. "She's lying."

I wasn't so sure.

"You hid one daughter… and abandoned the other," I said slowly. "Why? What was your end goal?"

My mother smiled.

"To build an empire."

---

The Empire of Lies

She walked toward me, slowly, like a predator.

"Seo-ah was raised under the protection of your stepfather," she said. "She had stability. Security. But you?"

She shook her head.

"I needed you to fight for yourself. To become stronger."

I felt sick.

"You left me to suffer."

"And yet, look at you now," she said, spreading her arms. "Ahn Jae-hyun's wife. The CEO's bodyguard. A woman who can stand on her own."

I clenched my fists.

This woman…

She thought she had made me.

But I made myself.

---

The End of the Game

"I don't need you," I said coldly. "I never did."

She smiled like she had expected that answer.

"Well then, let's see how strong you really are."

With a snap of her fingers, the doors burst open.

Men in black suits stepped in.

Jae-hyun immediately moved in front of me, shielding me.

It was clear—she wasn't just here to talk.

She was here to take me back.

---

The Fight Begins

Jae-hyun smirked.

"You should have brought more men."

And then, all hell broke loose.
