LYXARIA
It was finally my wedding day. I can't imagine how I once dreaded this day but now all I feel is anticipation. I haven't seen Leo since the night he slept in my room, Alfredo told me he had some urgent matters to take care of before the wedding.
I could feel my hands getting clammy and my feet were beginning to go numb from pacing all around the room.
"Can you settle down Lyx" Sage urged me for the third time in a row. She was my maid of honor. It was not really a big wedding but I would not call it a small wedding too. It was a wedding with only Leonardo's family and my family. I really wish my family were not invited. A few of the Mafia bosses across the country are also invited. I heard Rayna saying she invited a few of her friends from elite homes but they weren't Mafia wives.
I really pray nothing goes wrong.
"The makeup artist will be here any minute. I need to do your hair okay" Sage grabbed my hands and forced me to sit on the chair facing the vanity table.
"What do you have in mind?" I decided to calm down and let her do what she wants to do with my hair.
"I would love to straighten it. Your hair can't be styled with It being so curly"
"Do whatever you want then. I don't really care."
"You should care honey. Today is your wedding. Most girls will give an arm and a leg to be in your position"
" I do care. I'm just worried. Anna and Lyra are out there. How am I sure they have not planned something awful just to see me fall"
I decided to air out my worry. It has left an unsettling feeling deep in my guts. I always trust my guts feelings because that's the only way I have been able to survive.
" Don't let them spoil your mood. Girl, you are getting married to The Leonardo Demarco. The most eligible bachelor in NewYork."
" I mean I guess you can say it's a flex."
I decided to push the unsettling feeling behind me. I won't let anything make me overthink.
I stared at myself in my mirror when Sage was done stretching out my hair.
My hair was naturally long when it was curled and it stopped right above my waist.
Now that it has been stretched out It stops on my butt. My hair was a mixture of dark brown and a bit of blond and with it being stretched out it looked like a totally different colour.
"You look so beautiful Lyx."
I could feel my eyes tearing up. I had mixed feelings about this day.
I turned towards the door when I heard it click open.
"I'm so sorry I'm late. Apparently a woman stopped me outside asking me to do her daughter's makeup before I do any other thing." The makeup artist apologized.
I could already guess who the hell that was.
I don't even know what those two were planning.
"Just start with her makeup. The wedding will soon start." Sage said to her as she walked into my closet to bring out my wedding gown.
As soon as the make-up artist was done with my make-up, Rayna, Leo's mom stepped into the room.
"I knew you were beautiful but this, you look so stunning my love." She kisses my forehead.
I could not help but blush at her compliment.
"And your hair, did you dye it?" She curiously ran her finger tips through the strands of my hair carefully, not to scatter or tangle the hair.
" Not at all. This is her natural hair. I always tried to tell her to straighten her hair once in a while but Lyx is so lazy."
Sage and Rayna laughed.
" It's just easier brushing through it while it is curled okay."
" Any ways girls. Leonardo just arrived. I'm so mad at him right now. I would have killed him if he was even a minute late to the wedding."
My face lit up the moment to heard Leo was back. I began anticipating me walking down the aisle.
"We should get ready then"
Sage said helping me with my wedding dress.
I stared across the aisle. He stood so strong and tall. He always dressed in black suit but this one seemed special. I could feel his eyes on me as I walked the aisle.
It had to be my father who will me down the aisle if not I would have picked any other person.
The moment my father placed my hands on Leonardo's hand my heart skipped a bit.
"I'm giving you my lovely daughter Lyxaria as a wife. You now own her." I hear my father say to Leonardo. Of course I'm a property to him.
We both held hands as the official began the ceremony.
I couldn't count how many times I zoned out while the official was talking till it was time to say the vows.
" Do you Leonardo Demarco take Lyxaria Bishops to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, for as long as you may live? "
" I do" his deep voice resonated through the hall.
" And you Lyxaria Bishops,do you take Leonardo Demarco to be your lawfully wedded husband,in sickness and in health in good and bad, for as long as you may live?"
" I do" I did not feel a slight hesitation when I said it.
" You may now kiss the bride."
Why did the butterflies come back at this moment. I could feel it swirling in my tummy.
He raised up my veil and my eyes met his dark blue ones.
"I've missed you little lamb" Leonardo whispered on my lips before his lips landed on mine.
I kept on telling myself not to get carried away with the kiss as we were in public but it seems Leonardo did not care.
He kissed me harder and he refused to let go till we heard the crowd clapping.
He finally let me go wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Congratulations Mr and Mrs Demarco." The official said.
I was now Mrs Demarco. It felt too sudden but at this point I cannot imagine my life else where.
Leonardo and I went down from the altar to greet the guests.
"What a lovely wife you have here Leo" a man who seems to be in his early 30s shaked Leonardo's hands.
"Thank you sir" I said trying to be polite. I could see his eyes looking at me from head to toe with a lecherous manner. He did not even bother to hide his thoughts.
"Don't call me sir. You can call me Anthony". He winked at me
"I don't think that will be necessary Anthony." Leo quickly interjected and led me away before Anthony made another statement. He had to leave me for some minutes because a few of the guests called him. I was waiting for him when I heard a voice from behind me.
"Congratulations big sis" I looked up to see Lyra and Simone walking up to me with two glasses in their hands.
How did they get to know each other?
Whatever they are planning will definitely not be good.
"Thank you" I had to be polite. It would be rude to ignore her as everyone's eyes were on me.
" Here you go" Lyra handed me a glass that was in her hands.
" Let's make a toast. To a happy married life"
" Umhhh,I'm sorry but I don't drink alcohol"
" It's so rude of you to turn down your sister's toast Lyxaria."I heard Simone say. What was she even doing here beside Lyra.
" It's not like I don't want to. I just can't drink at this moment." I tried to explain calmly. I would have walked away but I needed to put up a calm front. I had to handle this situation carefully and ensure nothing goes wrong.
" It's just a sip nothing more"Lyra protested.
Why was she so adamant to make me drink.
Unless she knew something which I highly doubt.
" Or do you think I'll poison you. That is so unfair for you to think such."
If anyone around had heard her,.I would have been tagged a mean sister.
"That's not what I meant and you know it."
"Then let's just have a toast."
I looked around for anyone to come. I really needed to get out of this situation.
I took the cup from her hands and clicked glasses together. The smile that curled up on her face definitely gave me the irk.
"The toast is not complete until you take a sip big sis."
"That won't be necessary Lyra. The toast has already been made."
"Why are you so strong headed. Just take a sip already." Lyra said. I could feel the resentment in my voice.
I decided to take a sip. I was not really going to swallow it, I will just keep it in my mouth till I can spit it out. I suddenly felt someone push me from behind.
The drink that was in my hand splashed all over Lyra who was standing really close to me.
"I'm so sorry aunty it was a mistake" I heard a little boy say from beside me.
"I'm glad no one got hurt." I parts his cheeks.
He looked so cute with his round cheeks and his mini suit.
"What do you mean 'no one got hurt', have you seen my body." Lyra Shouted hysterically. The pink flowery dress she was wearing was stained with red wine and it looked so ugly.
" He apologized. You should really take it easy on the little boy." I scolded her.
" What am I going to do about my dress?"
" That's your problem not mine"
I took the boy's hands and walked away.
I have to give him a treat. If not for him I don't know what would have happene to me.
