Evra's face softened. She smiled at the man.
"After the negotiation," she whispered while holding the hands of the man, pressing her fingers lightly between his fingers, I will tell my mother about us. I will ask for her permission to marry you." his eyes flickered.
Shock, joy and love beamed in his amber eyes as he stared at me for a long time. As if he was fighting the urge to take me in his arms and twirl me.
To kiss my luscious lips and tell me how much he loved me.
He took a deep breath to stop himself from quivering with a completely different reason.
"Your highness, I will.." he paused and his head snapped to the door.
He let my hands go and took a step back when the door opened. Victoria stood there with her dark eyes scanning them.
She was wearing a luxurious red gown with many layers that accentuate her thin waist and heavy breasts. Despite her age, she looked enchanting.
She stared at me, her daughter for a minute before walking in and sitting in the seat of the head.
There was something in her eyes that told me that she knew what transpired in the room before she entered.
But even if she knew about it, she didn't show it on her face.
"Are you prepared for him?" Victoria raised her head and met my eyes when I nodded. There was nothing that could scare me anymore.
"You always asked me, how did your father die, right?" The woman tilted her head when she noticed me stiffening.
My eyes darkened. I had asked the same question many times from the knights. But all they said was.. .many died in the war.
Though it was true that war killed humans. My father was the strongest, I couldn't believe that my father died just like that. He couldn't die.
It took me days to believe it and the slap of my mother to come out of the nightmare.
"Mother! This is not the time t.."
"It was the vampire king." She didn't mind that I cut her, Victoria smiled at me and held my hand in between her palms.
"Your father has won the war. He was returning to the empire when he found the vampire king feeding from a weak and feeble woman. His righteousness forced him to face the monster.
And he lost his life while saving that woman. I didn't tell you because you were weak and like your father, full of righteousness and delusion that you could change the world. But now that you're facing him, you must know that his hands were smeared with the blood of your father."
A gong took my attention before I could process the words spoken by my mother. They stood up at once except me. I was staring at the emptiness as if i could see my father there, stained in his own blood and falling on the ground.
All the blood drained from my body and I looked pale. The gong was pressed again and more footsteps could be heard.
A strong stench of blood filled the room as if the red carpet was stained of my father's blood. I felt bile rising to my throat. But more than that, I felt the desire to kill.
My hands reached the hilt of my sword when the door opened. A man appeared in the room. His dark hair looked grim even in the bright world as if they held all the darkness of this world.
His crimson eyes indicated that all he had was blood in his body, as food but his veins were empty hollow, leaving any colour for living beings while he was just dead…
My eyes instinctively reached for his fair and clean hands. I could see my father's blood dripping from them. His black robe brushing the red carpet gently. He was wearing leather boots and a small crown made of bones.
His deep eyes and hollow long cheks with pointed chin looked dominating. His eyes did not demand obedience, they expected it to draw from the bones of their enemy. The sword belted at his waist. Though I was sure if he wanted to kill, he did not need it.
His grim eyes stared at us with a haughty look. He did not present a nod, a bow or any kind of greeting but stood there haughtily.
As if he wanted to remind us that it was we, who needed him not the other way around.
He scanned the room and stared at my mother and Damon before his eyes finally reached mine. I felt his expressions crack and for a second he stilled.
"Are you the one who called for me?" his eyes bored deep into mine as if he could see something else in my face. He was looking at me yet he was not.
What are the chances i will win against him if me and Damon attacked him at once.
I moved my gaze to Damon sure that he would read my thoughts, he had that power inside him.
It made me love him more but this time, he did not look at me. His eyes were stilled on the monster while his hands wrapped around the weapon.
"Welcome, the king of vampires." It was my mother who finally broke the silence. "We have invited you to offer peace."
She whispered in a low but clear voice. For the first time I felt her sweating and dreading.
Finally the man looked away from me to my mother. But I could still feel his gaze cutting me in the way I never expected.
he turned to walk around the table, the faintest outline of the blade hidden along his spine. He sat as if he owned that place and we followed. Every gaze was on his actions as if we were sure that he would suddenly attack us and we had nothing to survive.
"You want me to spare your people and your land. I hope you have a good thing to offer in exchange."
