Chapter 7

Emilly was possessed, but she couldn't quite put her finger on why.Sitting in the back seat of Lohan's car, her mind was buzzing with ideas. She wanted Zahara to go back to the hole she'd crawled out of, she was fed up with the new girl who seemed to steal the limelight wherever she went. Not that Zara had actually taken anything away from the blonde, but she felt she had and that was enough. When the car stopped in front of the large mansion, the mayor's house, the blonde turned to her boyfriend, resting her right hand on his thigh and leaning her body slightly towards him, leaving a kiss on his cheek, who shrugged slightly in an attempt to pull away."You've always been like this, dry," she complained, knitting her eyebrows together and looking at him with a certain irritation. "Frankly, Lohan, you know that any of the boys on the team would want to be in your shoes, why can't you be a little more receptive? How hard is it to like me?""Emmy, please don't start," he said, sighing heavily and rolling his eyes.Lohan didn't have the patience for this, not anymore, but he also didn't have any other option, not one that wasn't so risky, after all, Emmy had something to use against him and Lohan didn't feel brave enough to face her, not yet.Of course Emillya was frustrated, tired in fact. She knew from the first that he didn't really like the relationship, but she followed her mother's advice: "Men change their minds very quickly, Emmy, do your best and he'll love you". She had been repeating this to herself since the first year of high school, when they started dating. After three years, everything in her life was perfect, she had friends, popularity, beauty and a boyfriend who was incredible to everyone but her.But there was no time to build another perfect relationship, she had her ways of holding Lohan to her until they finished school, have her prom the way she dreamed of and leave high school life behind, without any blemish, to become a perfect university student. With no patience for further discussion and in the face of his refusal to show the slightest affection, the blonde opened the car door, got out and slammed it, walking towards the large gates that gave access to the mansion's gardens. When the security guards opened the gates, Emmy continued through the garden, walking without even looking back. When she reached the door, she heard the car start up and drive down the street, out of sight.Sighing heavily, she pushed open the large wooden door and walked through the luxurious entrance hall. She loved her house, ever since her father had become the mayor of Corning a long time ago, they had lived there with every luxury life could offer. He arrived in the living room to find his mother reading a book, lying on the sofa in a bathrobe with a glass of wine. She imagined, at the same moment, that her father had gone away on a trip; after all, Mrs. Amberty never looked less than elegant when her husband was at home; for her, a woman's appearance should always be perfect, as it was the best tool for success. Emmy had the same thought, she wouldn't accept anything less than perfection in any area of her life."Good evening, Mom," she said, as soon as she passed the sofa, touching the woman's foot, who lowered the book to look at her daughter."Your father's gone to New York and won't be back until next week. How was the presentation?" Amberty's speech didn't show much interest, but after speaking, she lifted the book again.Even though she wasn't very interested, Emmy sat on the arm of the sofa, looking at her mother for a few moments. They were very similar, the only thing that really differentiated them was the passage of time and their eyes."It was great, we were perfect!" she said with a big smile, receiving nothing but a "that's nice" in response. "Lohan also scored a lot of points and the team qualified.""That's very good, your father needs to get the voters excited, if the team wins a championship, they can compete for the city at nationals, it would give them great visibility" commented the woman, raising her right hand to pick up the cup and taking a sip.Having said that, Amberty went back to reading and, lifting the book more than the last time, hid her face completely, signaling to her daughter that the conversation was over. They had barely talked for ten minutes, but Emillya tried not to think about it, simply stood up and, heading for the stairs, went up to her room. After a good shower, she lay down on her bed and only then did she concentrate on her thoughts and, once again, they turned to Zahara Grant. The blonde brought her hands to the pillow and picked it up, throwing it against her face as she tried to stifle her growing irritation. She remembered how the whole evening had been focused on the little girl and how easily people turned their attention to her, including her friends, who had barely sustained a conversation with Emillya that night."I hate her!" she said, slamming her hands hard against the bed. "I want this girl gone!"While she was seething with anger and, deep down, envy, something flashed in her head. Her mind lit up with an idea that would surely satisfy her desire to inferiorize the girl in order to make herself feel better. Emmy removed the pillow from her face and stood up, picking up her cell phone and sending a message to Lohan, arranging to meet him the following afternoon. She knew that the blonde would certainly refuse, but she had her ways of convincing him to go along with what she had planned in a few hours."Then everyone will realize what a little girl she is and forget about her," she thought. "Even if I have to make up a little lie to do it."

Lohan knew that nothing good would come from a sudden encounter with Emillya, and when he entered the cafeteria and saw her already sitting at the table, he was sure of it. Unlike him, who was wearing a plain black shirt and equally dark jeans, Emmy was elegantly dressed in a pink dress, her blonde hair was perfectly straight and an equally pink tiara kept it off her face. Tapping her leg insistently, her heels made an annoying noise on the floor, which reached his ears, indicating that the girl was impatient."What do you want?" he asked, sitting down without even coming close, he had been essentially bitter lately, but the blonde didn't seem to mind too much.Emmy sighed, bringing the spoonful of ice cream to her mouth. She had ordered a large bowl, and every now and then she had the luxury of gorging herself on something so rich in sugar. She leaned towards him, resting her right hand on the table and raising her clear eyes to the blond man in front of her."I need a little favor, darling," she said, with an excessively honeyed tone, touching his hand affectionately. "It has to do with Grant."His green eyes caught the blond's immediate refusal, but then he sighed slightly, relaxing his body and shifting his shoulders, clearly nervous."Why would I do that?" he asked, running his hands through his light hair to relieve the stress. "Are you that futile? Using me to fulfill yet another of your whims?"Emmy got even angrier. She knew that her boyfriend wouldn't agree at first, especially since she was a nice girl and liked by everyone. But she also knew that she just needed to push in the right places."Do you know what they say about me because of you? Because of your lies?" Lohan felt suffocated, he didn't know how long he could keep it up, but he tried every day.He knew he had to, that it wasn't as simple as others made it out to be. Although he didn't agree with Emilly on many things, he also understood that certain events would mark his high school, he knew that sport was his only chance of getting into a renowned university, so he had to be impeccable.Emmy didn't even have to open her mouth, she let her boyfriend's mind condemn him, she knew he would agree with her sooner or later, but that afternoon, it was sooner than she expected. As she stared at him, Lohan tried to resist his fear and nervousness, he knew that, for the moment, Emmy had him in her hands, but not for love. He sighed, closed his eyes and nodded, hearing Emmy jump for joy and hug him. However, when she noticed his closed and cold expression, she rolled her eyes, letting go of him at once."Don't act like it's such a terrible thing, it's just a little joke," she said, trying to minimize the situation. "You're not even going to play a big part," she continued, moving closer and resting her hands on his shoulders, smiling. "It's just for her to go back the way she came…"
