Chapter 50: Alright, He’s Just Ugly

Chapter 50: Alright, He's Just Ugly

"Ding ding ding…!!!"

Suddenly, a bell rang outside the cafeteria.

The group had just finished eating when Dai Mubai said, "That's the academy's assembly bell. Let's go, we need to meet at the training ground."

When the five of them arrived at the training ground, Zhu Zhuqing was already there, having left the cafeteria earlier.

The group lined up and stood in silence, waiting.

After a moment, a middle aged man approached from the other side of the field.

Seeing this person, both Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing were momentarily stunned.

The man looked to be about fifty years old, with a broad, stocky build and distinctive facial features a prominent chin, wide cheekbones, and a flat face. His hooked nose made him seem particularly shrewd.

If one had to describe his face with an object, the sole of a shoe might be the closest comparison.

His eyes were closed, but there was still a cunning feel to his expression. He wore thick, black framed crystal glasses in a rigid, square shape.

"This… is the headmaster of the academy?" Ning Rongrong asked in surprise.

Oscar, eager to impress her, immediately replied enthusiastically, "That's right! This is our headmaster and founder of Shrek Academy Four Eyed Owl, Flender. He's a Rank 78 Spirit Saint, even stronger than Teacher Zhao! He also has a flying type Beast Spirit, which is extremely rare among Battle Spirit Masters. Fatty here is his direct disciple."

"His spirit is an owl… well, he does look the part," Ning Rongrong muttered.

She then glanced at Ma Hongjun the fat, perverted little guy beside her and internally shook her head.

"Isn't there a saying, 'Like master, like disciple'?"

"Why does the master actually fit his martial soul, but the disciple is… well… like this?"

"Who would believe that this guy's martial soul is a phoenix?"

There was no doubt about it Flender's unusual appearance was a clear example of how a martial soul could influence a person's looks.

So, was he ugly? Not exactly. He was just… strange.

He wasn't the type of man a woman would ever fantasize about.

Alright, fine. He was ugly.

Flender soon reached the six students and stopped in front of them. He focused on the three newcomers, each of whom had an impressive background.

Internally, he was feeling uneasy.

All the students he had admitted before were nobodies.

But these three?

Each one had a powerful family behind them. If anything went wrong… Shrek Academy might not survive.

With that in mind, Flender decided to proceed with extreme caution.

Their training had to be strict but reasonable he couldn't afford to break them.

Otherwise…

Things could get ugly.

"Ahem."

After clearing his throat, Flender said, "This year is a great one! We have three more little monsters. I, Flender, headmaster of Shrek Academy, welcome you. Later, each of you will pay 100 gold coins to Teacher Li, who manages finances. Now, Mubai."

"Headmaster!"

Dai Mubai stepped forward. Having been brainwashed by Flender's teachings over the years, he not only respected him but even held a degree of admiration for him.

"You have three new junior classmates. Make sure to explain the academy rules to them later. Then, everyone will return to rest and recover. Your first lesson will begin tonight."

Flender then looked at Oscar and Ning Rongrong, "Except for you two. Come with me."

Oscar's face immediately fell. He clearly wasn't happy.

But when he saw that Ning Rongrong was also called out, his expression improved slightly.

Flender waved his hand dismissively, "The rest of you, go rest. Make sure you're at your best before nightfall. Don't say I didn't warn you our academy's training is different from other places. You may even face danger."

Zhu Zhuqing didn't say a word. She simply turned and left.

Dai Mubai didn't chase after her this time.

Ma Hongjun, however, ran off so fast he vanished in an instant.

Tang San, on the other hand, stayed behind.

He wanted to see how the headmaster would train them.

Since both Oscar and Ning Rongrong had support type martial souls, they were excluded from the evening training.

But what puzzled Tang San was why was the training being held at night?

Flender didn't care that Tang San stayed and simply continued, "Every person has their own method of cultivation. Martial souls are different, and so are training techniques. On the Douluo Continent, no two martial souls are exactly alike. That's why the academy doesn't teach you how to cultivate your martial soul we teach you how to use it, how to survive in battle, and how to assist your comrades."

Tang San found these words very familiar.

After thinking for a moment, he realized… Grandmaster had said something similar before.

Except, Grandmaster had explained it in far more detail.

Oscar remained silent, but Ning Rongrong nodded in understanding, listening intently.

Flender continued, "You two are both support type Soul Masters. One boosts attributes, while the other uses food based support. Soul Masters like you, whether on the battlefield or in daily life, need protection. Otherwise, survival will be difficult. Now, Oscar, tell me how should a support type Soul Master ensure their survival?"

Oscar answered immediately, "Stay behind allies, use the surrounding terrain for cover, and avoid dangerous areas as much as possible."

Flender nodded, "Correct. But you missed one key point. Running away is an essential skill for a support type Soul Master. A support who can't escape is a dead support. And what do you need to escape? Stamina. Even with spirit power strengthening your body, you're still vulnerable against Battle Soul Masters. That's why support types must also train their physical endurance. Sometimes, running just one extra step could save your life."

Oscar, already familiar with Flender's tricks, couldn't help but smile bitterly.

"Well, looks like I'm doomed today."

Sure enough, Flender then said, "Your training today is endurance training. Starting now, you will run around the entire village twenty times. If you don't finish before lunch, you won't be eating. You may use your martial souls to assist you. Now, go. Oscar, lead the way."

"Yes!" Ning Rongrong responded enthusiastically and ran off without hesitation.

Oscar, however, glanced at Flender with a sorrowful expression before reluctantly following her.

Shrek Academy was located in a small village, but Oscar knew exactly what Flender meant by "the whole village."

He wasn't just talking about the village itself he meant including the farmlands surrounding it.

One full lap was at least three kilometers.

Twenty laps?

That was a terrifying amount of running.
