Rory's mind was racing as she got ready to meet Sophia. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something wasn't right.
Marcus and Ethan were waiting for her in the living room, their faces serious.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Marcus asked, his eyes narrowing.
Rory nodded. "I have to know what Sophia wants. And just maybe, she can help us take down Julian."
Ethan stood up. "We'll come with you, just in case."
Rory smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friends. "Thanks, guys. But I think I should go alone. Sophia might be more willing to talk if it's just me."
Marcus's expression was skeptical, but he nodded. "Okay, but be careful. And keep your phone close."
Rory nodded, taking a deep breath. She was ready to face whatever lay ahead.
As she walked to the coffee shop, Rory's senses were on high alert. She scanned the streets, looking for any signs of trouble.
When she arrived at the coffee shop, Sophia was already there, sipping on a latte.
Rory's eyes locked onto Sophia's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.
Then, Sophia smiled, a hint of desperation in her eyes. "Thanks for coming, Rory."
Rory sat down, her heart racing. "What do you want, Sophia?"
Sophia leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper. "I want out."
Rory's eyes widened. "Out of what?"
Sophia's eyes darted around the coffee shop, as if she was afraid of being overheard.
"Out of Julian's organization," she said. "I'm tired of being his pawn. I want to help you take him down."
Rory's mind was racing. Could she trust Sophia?
Rory's eyes searched Sophia's face, looking for any signs of deception. But all she saw was desperation.
"Why do you want to help me?" Rory asked, her voice cautious.
Sophia's eyes dropped, and for a moment, Rory thought she saw a glimmer of tears.
"I've seen things, Rory," Sophia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Things that I can never unsee. Julian's not just a bad person, he's... he's evil."
Rory's heart went out to Sophia. She knew what it was like to be trapped in Julian's web.
"What makes you think you can trust me?" Rory asked, her eyes locked onto Sophia's.
Sophia's smile was small. "I've been watching you, Rory. I know you're not like the others. You're strong, and you're determined. And I think you're our only hope."
Rory's mind was racing. Could she really trust Sophia? Or was this just another one of Julian's tricks?
But as she looked into Sophia's eyes, she saw something there that gave her hope.
just maybe, Sophia was telling the truth.
"What do you know about Julian's plans?" Rory asked, her voice firm.
Sophia's eyes darted around the coffee shop again, as if she was afraid of being overheard.
"I know he's planning something big," Sophia said. "Something that will give him even more power and control."
Rory's heart sank. What could Julian possibly be planning?
Rory's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities. "What kind of power and control?" she asked.
Sophia hesitated, glancing around the coffee shop nervously. "I don't know all the details," she said. "But I do know that Julian's been in talks with some powerful people. People who can help him achieve his goals."
Rory's heart sank. This sounded worse than she had imagined.
"Who are these people?" Rory asked, her voice firm.
Sophia shook her head. "I don't know. Julian's been very secretive about the whole thing. But I do know that he's been using his... resources to gather support."
Rory's eyes locked onto Sophia's. "Resources?" she repeated.
Sophia's expression was grim. "You know what I mean, Rory. Julian's not above using coercion or manipulation to get what he wants."
Rory's stomach twisted with anger. She knew exactly what Sophia was talking about.
Just then, Rory's phone buzzed. She glanced down to see a text from Marcus.
"Everything okay?" he asked.
Rory hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She didn't want to alarm Marcus, but she also didn't want to lie to him.
"It's fine," she texted back. "Just getting some information."
She looked up to see Sophia watching her, a curious expression on her face.
"You're not alone, are you?" Sophia asked.
Rory hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal.
But something about Sophia's expression made her trust her.
"No," Rory said. "I have friends who are helping me."
Sophia's eyes widened. "Friends?" she repeated.
Rory nodded. "Yes. Friends who want to help me take down Julian."
Sophia's expression changed, a look of determination crossing her face.
"I want to help you," Sophia said. "I want to help you take down Julian."
Rory's heart skipped a beat. Could she really trust Sophia?
But as she looked into Sophia's eyes, she saw something there that gave her hope.
Maybe Sophia was telling the truth.
