The First Crack

Dante's Office – Castellano Estate

Belle stood in Dante's private office, her hands resting lightly on the wooden desk as he scanned a document.

It was a small, intimate moment.

But she could feel it.

A shift in the air.

Dante was watching her differently.

Suspicion.

It was subtle, but it was there—like a predator studying a potential threat.

"You've been restless lately, Elena," Dante murmured, not looking up from the paper. "Is there something on your mind?"

Belle smiled, tilting her head. "Other than the fact that I'm supposed to be planning a wedding to the most feared mafia heir in this city?"

Dante smirked. "That's not what I mean."

He set the document down, eyes locking onto hers.

"You left the club to speak with Giovanni."

Belle's pulse spiked—but she didn't let it show.

"Did I?"

Dante leaned back, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. "What did he want?"

Belle forced an easy laugh. "To size me up. He doesn't trust me."

Dante's gaze sharpened.

"Should he?"

Belle's stomach tightened.

She had to redirect.

Slowly, she walked around the desk, placing her hands on Dante's shoulders.

"You think I'd betray you?" she murmured, brushing her lips against his ear.

Dante didn't move.

"I think men like Giovanni don't waste their time unless they see an opportunity."

Belle smirked. "Then maybe he just likes the way I look."

Dante chuckled. But there was something dark in his eyes now.

He reached up, gripping her chin lightly—forcing her to look at him.

"You're mine, Elena." His voice was low, dangerous. "I don't share."

Belle's breath hitched.

Dante had let the conversation go. For now.

But she knew the truth.

He was watching her.

And if she made one wrong move—

He would know.
