Chapter 29: Anoka's fire.

WALKING UP TO the Field of Peace, Render felt like his world was surreal. He had no idea what was happening, but maybe that was because he was hazy from lack of sleep and food. The little human fell into step next to him and took something from his pocket. He peeled the outer paper and handed the bar to him.

“It’s a granola bar,” Sloan held it out. “You eat it, kid.”

Render blinked, took the strange hard bread, and then put it in his mouth. It was sweet and chewy, like some type of oats. His hunger ignited after the first swallow, and he ate the rest. Render didn’t remember the last time he’d eaten. When the food was gone, he stared down at his empty hands.

When they reached the center of the grassland, his eyes fell on Sloan. Daris told him and Toren a lot about his dad. His eyes traveled over the short human alien. Sloan’s body made Daris, and Daris was perfect. The human’s golden hair reminded him of the next king of the Dagerstanteens.
