Chapter 70: A drop snake or two.
“WAIT ONE DANG minute!” Pete’s eyes flashed, a sudden, fierce light, and then suddenly, the royal moved, a blur of unexpected speed. “Used? A game?” The chap rolled to the side just as a drop snake, a dark, coiled menace, slammed onto the roof where he’d been standing. “I wasn’t trying to manipulate you, Nigel.” The bloke whirled around, his body instantly defensive, and faced the snake as the serpent made his first strike at Pete’s torso.
“You—”
“Okay. Okay. I’ll admit it.” Pete dodged the gleaming fangs, a blur of movement, and pulled both his knives from his belt, the blade a sudden flash. “Originally, I did want a human to love, and that is one of the reasons why I was looking to train under Warrior Nightmen.” The Dagerstanteen sprang back, nimble, as the snake attacked him again. The royal evaded the strike, a hair’s breadth escape, as a second snake thudded onto the roof behind the first. “I told you that.”
