NIGEL DIDN’T WAIT for a response from the stranger Dagerstanteens in the garden. He hurried back into Pete’s quarters and then rushed into the palace hallway. As soon as he reached the open walkway, Nigel broke into a dead run, heading directly toward where the humans had created their game place.


Over the time he’d been with Pete, Nigel had memorized his map of the palace. Down the hall, Nigel jogged, his speed picking up, then took a sharp right and an immediate left.


As he sprinted, the polished floors blurring beneath him, Dagerstanteen guards turned their heads, their gazes following him with curiosity. Some whispered, but Nigel wasn’t sure if that was simply because he hurtled through the quiet palace halls or something more.
