Incredible!" Yue Zhong thought with delight upon seeing Bone's new stats.
Bone's growth far exceeded Yue Zhong's own. With just one level-up, Bone had gained six attribute points, pushing its average stats to 10% above that of an ordinary human. Having such a powerful ally significantly increased Yue Zhong's chances of survival in this world.
Without hesitation, Yue Zhong gritted his teeth against the foul stench of the zombies and began barricading the door and window with whatever he could find in the dorm—desks, blankets, pillows, and other miscellaneous items. Though these makeshift barriers wouldn't stop the zombies entirely, they could at least slow them down.
The Level 1 zombies, aside from their monstrous strength, had one glaring weakness: they were slow. As long as they didn't swarm in large numbers, an ordinary person with a long weapon could handle them. However, being surrounded by dozens of zombies would be a death sentence.
After securing the door, Yue Zhong finally took a moment to catch his breath in the foul-smelling room littered with zombie corpses. The ordeal he had just gone through was hard to process. If he hadn't acquired the skill to summon Bone, he would likely have already become a zombie himself.
In such a confined space, Yue Zhong could barely handle one zombie. Facing three at once would have been impossible.
Catching his breath, Yue Zhong quickly began rummaging through the dorm for any useful resources. He soon found a coil of climbing rope, a hiking backpack, four packs of instant noodles, and a half-eaten bag of egg yolk pastries.
The dorm's cramped layout made it an ideal place for Yue Zhong and Bone to fend off zombies together. However, there was a critical issue: the male dormitory building was eight stories tall, with 20 rooms on each floor. Each room housed 12 students, totaling 1,920 male residents. Although many students were out on Sunday, at least 600 remained in the building. If even a third of those turned into zombies, the situation would be terrifying.
Another significant problem was the lack of food and clean water reserves in the dorm. Yue Zhong didn't know if the tap water was contaminated, and aside from bottled water, he didn't dare drink anything else.
Yue Zhong quickly tied a secure knot in the climbing rope and tossed it out the window, making sure it reached the ground. After confirming it was secure, he pulled up a chair and sat by the sink near the window, using his telescope to observe the chaos outside. Bone stood guard beside him.
The entire campus seemed to be in turmoil. Students were fleeing dormitory buildings, pursued by staggering zombies. Many of the students clutched injuries, their faces twisted in pain.
One boy, while running, didn't notice a corpse on the ground. Suddenly, the corpse reached out and grabbed his ankle, causing him to trip and fall.
"Zhang Ming, save me!" the boy screamed in terror, calling out to his friend ahead of him.
Zhang Ming glanced back, his eyes filled with fear as he saw both the fallen boy and the zombies slowly closing in. Without a second thought, he turned and fled.
"Zhang Ming! Zhou Feng! Help me!!" the boy continued to scream.
Zhou Feng, a tall student, hesitated for a moment upon hearing the plea. He looked back and saw the fallen boy being pounced on by eight zombie students, who began tearing into him mercilessly. Zhou Feng's legs went weak, and he, too, turned and fled.
The boy's cries soon faded as the zombies feasted on him. The other students continued to flee in panic.
The entire campus was in chaos. Everywhere, students were running in terror, pursued by slow but relentless zombies. The once-quiet pathways were now filled with students and zombies alike. Occasionally, a student would suddenly collapse, convulse, and rise again as a zombie.
A thick atmosphere of fear hung over the campus.
Yue Zhong frowned as he observed the scene below. The pathways were now teeming with zombies, attracted by the fleeing students. The road leading to the small campus supermarket was blocked by twenty zombies, cutting off access to both the store and the school gates.
Six boys who had rushed out of the dormitory stopped in their tracks upon seeing the blockade. As if sensing their presence, six zombies turned and began advancing toward them. The path to the school gates was narrow, and the zombies nearly filled it, leaving little room to maneuver.
Behind the boys, the eight zombies that had just finished their meal were also shuffling toward them. The zombies from both directions were closing in, forming a deadly pincer.
In this critical moment, two of the boys panicked and charged forward, screaming. One boy swung his beginner's stick and knocked a zombie to the ground. The other took advantage of the opening and slipped through.
The remaining boy was delayed just long enough for a zombie to grab his arm.
"No! Help me! Help!" the boy cried in terror, flailing his beginner's stick at the zombie and managing to break its arm. But three more zombies seized the opportunity to pounce on him, one sinking its teeth into his neck.
"Ahhh!! Help!!" the boy let out a blood-curdling scream.
The three zombies tore into him, beginning their gruesome feast. Two more zombies, drawn by the smell of blood, joined in.
Meanwhile, the boy who had escaped the initial blockade didn't get far before being overwhelmed by a group of zombies, his cries echoing briefly before being silenced.
The other four boys watched in horror. One of them collapsed to the ground, paralyzed by fear.
"Up the tree!" a tall, somewhat composed boy shouted. He quickly scaled a nearby tree with ease.
The main campus of Yunhua University was filled with trees for landscaping purposes. The other two boys followed suit, scrambling up the tree as well.
"Help me!! Chen Gang! Give me a hand!!" the boy who had collapsed cried out, his survival instincts kicking in. He didn't know how to climb a tree.
His screams drew the attention of the zombies within a hundred-meter radius, who began moving toward him.
The horde of dozens of zombies was enough to crush any resistance in the university.
