Chapter 7: The Small Supermarket

The zombies around the small supermarket had been cleared out by Yue Zhong. Only sixteen remained, lingering near the large tree in the distance.

After putting on the protective suit, Yue Zhong's stamina cap had increased to 13 points. After just five minutes of rest, his stamina recovered from 4 points to 7 points. However, even after resting for another twenty minutes, his stamina didn't increase by a single point.

"Has the prolonged battle left me too exhausted? My stamina is still too low." Yue Zhong frowned, silently reflecting. Despite his enhancements, his stamina wasn't limitless after such intense combat today.

"Looks like I have to use this apple now." Yue Zhong took out the vitality apple and took a bite.

A sweet and delicious juice flowed into Yue Zhong's mouth and down his throat, revitalizing his body.

He finished the apple in a few bites, and a cool, soothing stream of energy began to flow through his body, easing his fatigue.

Five minutes later, the refreshing energy restored Yue Zhong's tired body, and his stamina rose to 12 points.

Once fully rested, Yue Zhong and Bone stepped out of the small supermarket.

"He's coming out!" Sun Yu exclaimed excitedly to Chen Gang as soon as he saw Yue Zhong emerge.

Chen Gang looked at Yue Zhong with a mix of excitement and worry. If Yue Zhong chose to leave without helping them, there was nothing they could do.

Yue Zhong glanced at the sixteen zombies gathered around the tree and tossed a can of beer onto the ground.

Clang!

The sharp sound echoed through the area, and the sixteen zombies turned their heads, shambling toward the noise.

"Let's go, Bone!" Yue Zhong commanded, gripping his beginner's stick.

At the command, Bone sprinted toward the zombies.

Ten seconds later, Bone reached the nearest zombie and swung its axe, decapitating it in one clean motion.

After easily taking down one zombie, three more lunged toward Bone.

Yue Zhong stepped forward and smashed his stick into one zombie's head, sending it reeling to the side. He then kicked another zombie, knocking it to the ground.

Wearing the protective suit had boosted Yue Zhong's confidence. Without it, he would never have dared to kick a zombie. The slightest scratch could spell his doom.

Bone swung its axe again, severing another zombie's head.

After reaching Level 4, Bone's overall combat effectiveness had increased by 30%, with its agility and reflexes becoming noticeably sharper.

Yue Zhong dashed forward and struck another zombie's head, knocking it to the side.

In just a few breaths, four zombies had fallen to Yue Zhong and Bone's combined efforts.

After killing these four zombies, Yue Zhong and Bone quickly retreated, circling around the remaining twelve zombies and attacking from the left. They charged in, took down three more, and immediately pulled back.

After a few rounds of this, the slow-moving group of zombies was completely wiped out by Yue Zhong and Bone.

"Incredible! I had no idea our school had someone this capable," Chen Gang muttered in awe, watching Yue Zhong and Bone dispatch the zombies with ease.

Sun Yu and the other boy, Wang Shuang, nodded in agreement.

After eliminating the small horde, Yue Zhong's stamina had only dropped by 3 points, leaving him at 9. His enhanced strength and stamina were making him increasingly durable in combat.

Once the area was clear, Yue Zhong quickly collected the survival coins dropped by the zombies.

Seeing that the zombies around the tree were gone, Chen Gang and the other two boys quickly climbed down.

"Hey, I'm Chen Gang, a third-year student from the School of Economics and Management," Chen Gang introduced himself warmly as he approached Yue Zhong.

"I'm Sun Yu, also from the School of Economics and Management."

"I'm Wang Shuang, third-year from the same department."

Yue Zhong thanked Chen Gang, "I'm Yue Zhong. Thanks for earlier."

Chen Gang had helped Yue Zhong by diverting part of the zombie horde, allowing him to break through the first group. Without that, Yue Zhong would have had to flee and wouldn't have been able to take them down so easily.

The real danger of zombies wasn't their individual strength but their infectious nature and numbers. Once the number of zombies exceeded twenty, they became extremely difficult to deal with, even if you could kill them, as it drained both stamina and energy.

"No need for thanks. I should be thanking you for saving us!" Chen said with a hearty laugh, then pointed at Bone and asked, "Yue Zhong, how did you get that thing?"

Sun Yu and Wang Shuang also looked at Bone with envy. They had seen its strength firsthand—how it could kill a zombie with a single swing of its axe.

"Let's talk inside. This isn't the place for a conversation," Yue Zhong said, glancing around and pointing to the small supermarket. Although the nearby zombies had been cleared, the school was still infested with hundreds of them, and they weren't safe yet.

The three nodded and followed Yue Zhong into the supermarket.

As soon as they entered, Sun Yu grabbed a can of beer, popped it open, and took a long gulp before exhaling deeply. "Phew, finally made it. I was so thirsty."

Yue Zhong glanced at Sun Yu, his brow furrowing slightly. They weren't out of danger yet, and he preferred to keep unnecessary noise to a minimum.

Chen Gang took a sip of water and approached Yue Zhong, pointing at Bone. "Yue Zhong, how did you get that thing? Can you tell us?"

Sun Yu and Wang Shuang also turned their attention to Yue Zhong, their eyes filled with longing. In this sudden apocalypse filled with zombies, everyone knew that only strength could ensure survival.

Yue Zhong looked at Chen Gang and asked seriously, "Did you hear that voice that called itself a god?"

"I heard it," Chen Gang said.

"Me too."

"Me too."

Sun Yu and Wang Shuang also responded.

Yue Zhong explained slowly, "After I killed a zombie, it dropped a skillbook. I used the book and was able to summon this skeleton."

There was no point in hiding this. If they were going to escape together, every bit of strength would help.
