Chapter 16: Dispute

The school bus sped along, scattering the zombies blocking the road.

"No enhancements. It seems that using vehicles won't grant any boosts. I need to figure out the rules for enhancements," Yue Zhong thought, frowning slightly as he watched the zombies being knocked aside, some even having their heads crushed and unable to get up. Yet, no white spiritual light rose from their bodies.

Originally, Yue Zhong had considered finding powerful vehicles like Humvees or road rollers to crush zombies and level up. However, it now seemed that this plan wasn't reliable.

The speeding bus soon came to a halt in front of the small supermarket.

"Chen Yao, stay here and be ready to start the bus. Wang Fang, Cai Xiao, you two come down and help gather supplies. Ji Qingwu and I will handle security," Yue Zhong quickly arranged, then jumped off the bus.

Ji Qingwu also leapt down from the bus with a cool, confident air.

Wang Fang and Cai Xiao exchanged glances and followed, rushing into the supermarket.

"Yue Zhong! The supermarket is blocked," Wang Fang and Cai Xiao reported as they approached the store, finding the entrance barricaded with various objects from the inside.

"Bone, break through here," Yue Zhong simply glanced at the supermarket, then pointed to a corner and ordered Bone.

Bone swung its giant axe, striking the corner of the supermarket.

With a loud crash, the glass shattered, revealing a large hole.

The supermarket was surrounded by glass, making it impossible to withstand any significant force, which was why Yue Zhong hadn't chosen it as a stronghold earlier.

Bone swung its axe a few more times, sending the surrounding glass to the ground. The interior of the supermarket was now completely exposed.

"Yue Zhong, is that you?" From inside the supermarket came Chen Gang's surprised voice. Soon, Chen Gang, Sun Yu, and Wang Shuang emerged.

"Ji Qingwu! Hello, I'm Sun Yu, a third-year student in the economics department," Sun Yu's eyes lit up as he saw Ji Qingwu, and he hurriedly introduced himself.

Ji Qingwu glanced at Sun Yu and said indifferently, "Hello."

Chen Gang walked over to Yue Zhong, looking at the school bus with enthusiasm. "Yue Zhong, you're really impressive. You actually got the school bus. This greatly increases our chances of escaping the school."

Yue Zhong ignored Chen Gang and instead ordered Wang Fang and Cai Xiao, "Go gather supplies. Prioritize water and food."

Wang Fang and Cai Xiao quickly entered the supermarket and began collecting provisions.

Seeing Yue Zhong issue orders to the two girls, Sun Yu stepped forward and accused, "Yue Zhong, you're really lacking in gentlemanly manners! How can you make girls do such heavy lifting? Shouldn't you, as a man, take the initiative? You're letting them do all the work while you sit back. Don't you think that's undignified?"

Wang Fang and Cai Xiao stopped and looked at Yue Zhong.

Yue Zhong glanced at them and said calmly, "Our little team's matters are none of your concern, outsider. If they think what I'm doing is inappropriate, they're free to leave now. I won't stop them. Wang Fang, Cai Xiao, if you feel I'm being unfair, you can stay here and join these three. I won't stop you."

Cai Xiao sneered at Sun Yu, "Sun Yu, shut up. Yue Zhong has killed countless zombies to save us. He's human too, and he gets tired. We're not brave enough to face zombies head-on, but we can handle the logistics. If you're so capable, go kill some zombies yourself."

With that, Cai Xiao strode into the supermarket to continue gathering supplies.

Wang Fang also gave Sun Yu a mocking look before entering the supermarket. In her eyes, Sun Yu, a spoiled child who hadn't fully grasped the new world, wouldn't last long.

Chen Gang's face paled as he stared at Yue Zhong. "Yue Zhong, does that mean you're not taking us with you?"

Yue Zhong glanced at Chen Gang and said coldly, "Of course. Back then, I asked if you wanted to join me in taking the school bus or stay here waiting for rescue. Didn't you choose to wait for the government? So wait. I'm sure the government will come for survivors like you. My bus is small and can't take too many people."

Yue Zhong despised those who wanted to reap the rewards without putting in any effort or taking risks. Sun Yu, in particular, was a spoiled child who didn't understand anything.

Sun Yu's face turned pale as he shouted, "How can you be so selfish? Shouldn't we stick together in times like this? I'm getting on that bus, and there's nothing you can do about it! The bus isn't yours—it's public property!"

With that, Sun Yu ran towards the bus.

Yue Zhong quickly stepped forward and slapped Sun Yu hard across the face, sending him to the ground with a swollen cheek.

Yue Zhong looked at Sun Yu with disgust and barked, "There's another bus over there. If you want it, go take it from the zombies yourselves. This bus is the one I took from the zombies, and you didn't contribute at all. You're not getting on. Get lost!"

As Yue Zhong spoke, Bone stepped forward and swung its axe in front of Sun Yu like lightning, the powerful gust of wind frightening him into silence.

Seeing Bone by Yue Zhong's side, Chen Gang, Wang Shuang, and Sun Yu dared not say another word.

The world had changed. The police station was unreachable, and they couldn't get any other help.

"Ji Qingwu, keep an eye on them. I'll go clear out some zombies. Tell them to hurry—we don't have much time," Yue Zhong said to Ji Qingwu after glancing at Chen Gang and the others.

Groups of zombies were already shambling toward them, drawn by the sound of the bus engine.

Ji Qingwu waved her beginner's wooden club at Chen Gang and the others, saying to Yue Zhong, "Leave them to me. Be careful."

With that, Yue Zhong and Bone charged toward the rear of the bus.

Once they entered the zombie horde, Yue Zhong was like a fierce tiger, his replica Tang blade dancing with cold, deadly precision, cutting down the zombies one by one.

Bone swung its axe, harvesting zombies like wheat, moving as if it were in an empty field.

One by one, white spiritual lights entered the bodies of Bone and Yue Zhong.
