Chapter 79: Charge and Kill

Chen Yuan shouted at the gate, "Everyone inside, come out now! Brother Xiang wants to see you! If you don't come out on your own, don't blame me for being rude!"

Chi Yang coldly retorted, "Get lost! No one enters this door until Yue Zhong returns!"

Chen Yuan was furious and yelled at his three subordinates, "Smash it!"

The three men raised their guns and fired at the lock on the gate, blasting it to pieces, then kicked the door open.

Chi Yang, holding a Type 79 submachine gun, was crouched in a corner. As soon as the gate was breached, he calmly pulled the trigger. A burst of fire from his gun struck the gate, immediately taking down two of the armed men who were caught off guard. One was shot in the head and died on the spot, while the other had his leg shattered.

Chi Yang's profession was Soldier, and he had the class skill Firearm Manipulation. His shooting skills were on par with those of a seasoned veteran.

Chen Yuan was terrified and immediately dropped to the ground, rolling to the side for cover.

Another armed man also dodged to the other side of the gate.

"It hurts! Help!!" The man whose leg had been shattered let out a piercing wail, writhing in pain on the ground.

"Damn it! They're fierce!" Chen Yuan cursed, glancing at the villa, unsure of what to do.

The armed men in Changguang Village were a ragtag bunch without proper military training—essentially civilians with guns. Without heavy weapons, Chen Yuan had no idea how to assault the villa defended by Chi Yang.

The two sides were at a stalemate.

Meanwhile, Zhang Xiang, allied with Lei Zhen, launched an attack on Chen Yan's faction. Caught off guard, Chen Yan's forces were severely hit, with four of his men killed instantly. Chen Yan, Chen Si, and two other armed men were forced to retreat to a small villa, where they barricaded themselves and prepared to defend.

As Zhang Xiang directed the assault on Chen Yan, he cursed in his heart, "Damn it! That useless Chen Yuan, why hasn't he brought the people yet?"

Compared to Chen Yan, Zhang Xiang feared Yue Zhong more. He had considered all factors before launching this power grab in Changguang Village. As long as he could capture Chi Yang and Lu Wen's group, he could force Yue Zhong to submit. Apart from Wang Guanghu, neither Lei Zhen nor Chen Yan were of any concern to Zhang Xiang.

Wang Guanghu always took the strongest armed forces with him whenever he went out, so Zhang Xiang had never dared to make a move, forced to obediently serve as Wang Guanghu's dog. Zhang Xiang knew full well that Wang Guanghu's ruthlessness meant that even killing all of Wang Guanghu's women wouldn't sway him. Thus, Zhang Xiang had bided his time. Just as the two sides were engaged in intense gunfire, the roar of car engines could be heard in the distance.

Zhang Xiang's face turned pale. He hadn't expected Yue Zhong to return so soon, "Is Yue Zhong back already?"

According to Zhang Xiang's calculations, even if Yue Zhong defeated the four mutant dogs, it would take a considerable amount of time—enough for him to take control of Changguang Village. By then, with hostages in hand, he wouldn't need to fear Yue Zhong's threats.

"Yue Zhong is back! Damn it, he actually killed Brother Hu! I must avenge Brother Hu!" Lei Zhen's eyes were bloodshot as he roared, leading his five trusted men toward the village entrance.

Wang Guanghu had shown Lei Zhen great kindness and treated him well, so Lei Zhen was utterly devoted to avenging him.

"Follow me!" After a moment of thought, Zhang Xiang led his eight subordinates toward the villa where Yue Zhong's group was staying.

"Something's wrong! Stop the car, get out, and prepare for combat! Anyone who points a gun at us, kill them!" Yue Zhong, hearing the intense gunfire from a distance, frowned and ordered the driver.

The driver quickly stopped the car, and the five armed men, along with Chen Yao and Ji Qingwu, got out.

The jeep wasn't bulletproof, and charging in would make it an easy target. Inside the car, Yue Zhong's combat abilities would also be limited.

A fierce glint flashed in Yue Zhong's eyes as he gave Bai Gu a ruthless order, "Go and kill everyone inside who's holding a gun, except for those who came with me."

Yue Zhong's close friends and women were in Changguang Village, and he was furious, his killing intent surging.

Liu Yan's heart leaped with joy, and he puffed out his chest, "Yes, Brother Yue! I'll complete the mission!"

Ji Qingwu and Chen Yao were kind-hearted and soft-spirited. In the pre-apocalyptic world, these were good qualities, but they were utterly unsuited for executing Yue Zhong's orders. Neither woman could make ruthless decisions or strictly follow Yue Zhong's commands. Thus, Yue Zhong had no choice but to entrust the task to these former followers of Wang Guanghu. As for their reliability, he didn't dwell on it—after all, he had no one else to use.

Yue Zhong's figure flashed as he followed Bai Gu, charging forward.

"Open fire!!"

As soon as Bai Gu approached Changguang Village, Lei Zhen roared at his men.

Six armed men, armed with Type 81 rifles and Type 79 submachine guns, opened fire on the approaching Bai Gu.

Bai Gu moved like a nimble monkey, zigzagging to dodge the bullets. Some stray shots hit its body but only embedded themselves in its bone armor, unable to break its bones.
