Eternal Whispers – A Haunting Call
It was late at night, but Nadia Begum's anxiety refused to fade. The ticking clock only deepened her unease. Finally, she called out to her husband.
"Kamran! Kamran! Are you listening?"
Kamran, half-reclined on the sofa, adjusting his glasses, lazily flipped through TV channels. His attention was locked on the screen until Nadia's tone hardened.
"Yes, I'm listening. Now what?" Kamran replied, irritated.
"Seera still hasn't come home! She just went to work on an assignment—it should've taken an hour or two, but it's been five hours now. Go check the library. I'm really worried!"
She snatched the remote from his hand, switched off the TV, and placed it on the table.
Kamran sighed in frustration, removed his glasses, and muttered as he walked out.
---
At the Library…
The library was nearly empty. Most students had already left, with only a few scattered figures remaining.
Seera sat motionless, completely immersed in her book, elbows resting on the table, one hand gripping the pages while the other flipped through them. She was so engrossed that she had lost all awareness of her surroundings.
A boy sat a few tables away, his curious eyes locked onto her. He had been watching her for the past five hours, observing every movement, every gesture.
Then, suddenly, the book slipped from Seera's hands, landing open on the table.
Across the page, written in bold, chilling letters, were the words:
"Seera, come to me!"
The boy's expression darkened.
Seera's face turned pale, as if someone had drained the life out of her. Fear, confusion, and disbelief flickered across her features.
These words...! Was it a coincidence? Or something far worse?
"Is… is the book calling me?"
Her breathing grew rapid.
"Seera! Are you okay?" The boy's voice broke her trance, but she barely heard him. Her gaze remained fixed on the book, desperately trying to decipher the hidden message.
"What… what should I do?"
Should she take the book with her? No! That would be wrong. It had to be a coincidence.
"No, no, no!" She reassured herself and abruptly stood up.
Then, as if making an irreversible decision, she grabbed the book and dashed toward the second floor.
The boy hesitated for a moment—then ran after her.
---
Outside the Library…
Reaching the second floor, Seera placed the book back on the shelf and took a deep breath.
"I did the right thing. I had to." She whispered to herself, though uncertainty still clouded her face.
The boy glanced at the book, then at her.
"Do you want me to drop you home?" His voice held a quiet hope.
Seera, lost in thought, said nothing and simply walked toward his car.
A hint of excitement flashed in his eyes as he rushed ahead to open the door for her.
Just as she was about to get inside, a booming voice stopped her in her tracks.
"Seera!"
She froze and turned—standing there was Kamran, a knowing smirk playing on his lips.
"Home is this way. Where exactly are you going?"
His gaze shifted toward the boy, sharp and assessing.
"I… I was just heading home," Seera stammered.
The boy opened his mouth to speak but chose to stay silent.
Kamran chuckled, shaking his head. "Oh, sure! And I'm now your mother's boss?"
Then, looking directly at the boy, he said, "Son, you seem like a nice guy, but let me tell you—my daughter only rides in our car."
A flicker of disappointment crossed the boy's face, but he nodded politely. "No worries… maybe next time."
Kamran pulled out his phone, dialing a number.
"Hello? Reserve two VIP rooms at the hospital. Two patients will be admitted tonight at 9 PM."
Seera glared at him. "Dad!"
"What? Your mother didn't let me sit peacefully for five hours. Now, it's your turn!" He laughed.
Seera shot one last glance at the library—at the building that now held secrets beyond imagination. Then, without another word, she
followed her father.
But in the depths of her mind, the words still echoed…
"Seera, come to me!"
