Chapter 5: A New Beginning

Kiyoshi slowly regained consciousness in the base. As his vision cleared, he noticed Sam busy scribbling in his worn leather notebook. Sam looked up briefly and said:

"You were hit with some poison, and you lost a lot of blood—but thank goodness you survived, even though you passed out."

Sam continued, "I can only do a minimal amount of healing here. I know someone who can heal you completely, but we don't have a proper turf—we're stuck in this cave. Once we have one, I can contact her."

Kiyoshi mulled over Sam's words. The mention of a healer stirred hope and curiosity within him. After a moment, he pushed himself to his feet, determination replacing his lingering pain.

Deciding he needed a break from the claustrophobic cave, Kiyoshi slipped outside to scout the surrounding lands. The fresh air and open sky felt invigorating as he walked along a rugged trail. Suddenly, he spotted a figure riding a horse in the distance—a merchant, by the look of him.

Kiyoshi approached cautiously. As he drew near, the merchant's eyes widened in alarm.

"Hey! Don't try to rob me!" the merchant exclaimed.

Kiyoshi held up his hands in reassurance.

"Relax—I'm not here to rob you. I'm just checking things out."

The merchant eyed him warily until Kiyoshi asked:

"What are you doing out here?"

The merchant straightened up and replied, "I'm transporting goods from city to city."

Kiyoshi's mind raced with excitement. "City? Like in the game?" he thought, marveling at the possibility.

The merchant, sensing his interest, added, "Would you like to buy something? I've got a few curiosities."

Kiyoshi's eyes landed on a small, ornate piggy bank.

"How much for that?" he asked.

"Fifteen silver and thirty copper coins," the merchant answered.

Kiyoshi was taken aback by the steep price, but after a brief pause he nodded and purchased it. The merchant smiled broadly.

"Pleasure doing business with you!" he said before riding off.

Kiyoshi watched the merchant disappear, then turned with resolve.

"Now, let's begin building."

Gathering stones and other materials, Kiyoshi set to work constructing a small stone base. Piece by piece, he erected walls, created rooms, and placed furniture and chests. Though modest, the new turf resembled a fledgling castle—a sanctuary where they could truly begin anew.

Once finished, he strode back to where Sam was stationed. With a triumphant grin, he declared:

"This is our new turf now—our fresh beginning. Let's work together and create a world of peace."

Sam smiled and nodded in agreement. Together, they transferred all the items from the cave to the new base.

Later, over a simple lunch gathered around a sturdy table, they rested. Kiyoshi noted with quiet satisfaction that even though he no longer felt hunger or thirst in the usual way, he was glad to still share a meal.

Curious, Sam asked:

"So, what's your plan now?"

Kiyoshi leaned forward.

"I want to gather more information and expand our base. But first—after what happened—I think we need a proper healer."

Sam's eyes lit up as he responded, "I know someone who can heal you completely. I have her location."

Kiyoshi pressed, "Where?"

Sam replied, "The last time I saw her, she was from Lunaris—a thriving city southeast of here. I could guide you if you want."

Kiyoshi hesitated.

"Our base will have no guards until we're ready. I'll go there by myself."

Sam agreed with a nod.

"Alright, then. We'll provide you with a map for guidance."

After a few moments, Sam handed over a neatly drawn map. Kiyoshi prepared his things and took a deep breath. With a final wave from Sam, he stepped out of the base.

Focusing on his path, Kiyoshi felt a surge of determination and excitement for the adventure ahead. As he started down the trail, he murmured:

"One small step for man."

And with that, he continued his journey toward Lunaris, the future of their new beginning bright on the horizon.
