💋 Nora Davis Pov 💋
Blinking once then twice, my hand slams down onto my
phone just in time for the alarm to go off.
I swipe at the phone for the clamor to stop and just lay
there as I have all night, barely catching a wink of sleep.
Five minutes later I hop out of bed and into the shower
to get ready for the day to come.
Coming out of the bathroom with my hair air drying, I quickly go over to my wardrobe and scan the outfit that I had picked out the day before which was hanging
neatly from the hanger.
Quickly slipping my clothes on, I wear my nude high heels and then go over to my dresser to lightly do my
makeup so that it doesn't look like I've been up half the
night due to my never ending nerves.
That done and sorted I make myself a quick breakfast
with ten minutes to spare.
"Excuse me Miss? Miss? We're here".
"Huh?" I mumble unintelligently before comprehending
what the cab driver has just said.
I smile at him politely and thank him while I hand over the fare and get out of the car to resume what I had
been doing previously.
I gulp at the dauntingly huge tower before placing one foot in front of the other and going through the revolving doors.
Taking in the pristine marble floor and the creme coloured walls I walk past the security checks over to the
receptionist whom is situated right in the middle of the
lobby behind a desk.
Her blonde hair is pulled up into a neat bun and her red
painted lips curl up into a smile as she motions for me to
hold on for a minute so she could get off of the phone.
I look around me trying to ignore the prying eyes of the
people walking to and fro from the building.
A clearing of the throat snaps my attention to the
woman as she asks me what I am here for.
"Um I was called by somebody that I had an interview
with the head of the finance department" I answer
somewhat confidently.
"Oh of course, you must be Nora Davis. I have all your
fles and everything right here. All you have to do is go
up to level number fifteen and talk to Candice who's the
head receptionist there and she will tell you where to go
from there. I'm Natalie by the way".
I smile at her and thank her before heading to the
elevator and riding all the way to the fifteenth floor.
Walking out I go over to the women who had a name tag
that read Candice.
I repeat the same thing to her as I did to Natalie.
Candice tells me where to go which is the head of the
departments office and then tells me the do's and don't
of how to talk and act in front of him.
She wishes me luck and with that ushers me towards
the office.
At least the people here are nice.
I walk towards the door leading to the office before
knocking on it.
A soft voice answers from the other end and tells me to
Come in.
I open the door to see a small looking office with a man
around his late fifties with salt and pepper hair sitting
behind a desk. Wrinkles line his face as well as laugh
lines which over all makes him look friendly.
He smiles up at me before putting his hand out to which
I place mine in his.
"Jeff, Jeff Stevens" he says gruffly.
"Nora Davis, Sir" I say back politely.
"Oh I know Nora and please call me Jeff, everyone else
does. Please take a seat".
I quickly do so after which he continues on "Im very
sorry for the inconvenience we must have caused you
on the lack of time but work has been piling up and well
I need someone to help around with the calls and what
not".
"Oh no problem Sir- Jeff" I correct myself quickly after
he throws me a look "I needed a job and I'm glad I'm
getting an opportunity at the very least."
I hope that didn't come out too desperate.
"Well that's great. I apologize it's not on such short notice
but you pretty much already have the job. The last
assistant pretty much left us high and dry."
I nod my head in understanding and confirmation as he
tells me all the jobs Ill most probably be doing and how
I could situate my self with Candice who'll show me the
ropes.
After that he asks me the usual questions and goes
through my paperwork etc.
Half the day goes by increasingly fast and I find to be
enjoying myself quite a lot.
I can't even believe I was sO nervous I could barely sleep.
Candice and I have bonded unite well throughout the
day and I can see myself becoming close friends with
her in the very near future.
Right now both of us are sitting in the cafeteria for our
half an hour break before I have to go back to filing
some documents and Candice doing her own thing.
"You haven't happened upon Mr. Tall dark and
handsome have you as of yet?" asks Candice in a sort of
teasing voice.
"Mr. Tall dark and who?" I question stupidly.
"Oh you know who I'm talking about".
"AlexanderJames?" she further explains at the befuddled look I have on my face.
"You know the incredibly hot guy who's the CEO of this
place and has his face plastered on nearly every single
magazine".
"Oh him".
I had heard of the infamous Alexander James. I mean who hadn't? But Id never seen him before as unrealistic as that sounds but I'm not much one for the whole business or sports illustrated section in a magazine.
I'd much rather stick to my celebrity gossip and all that.
I'm one of those people who pretends not to like gossip
but if anyone's dishing anything out I'm all ears.
"Yes him" Candice replies back to my previous comment,
nearly scoffing at me but looking at me with amusement
clear in her eyes.
"I was surprised you hadn't fawned all over him but I guess I now know. Rumor has it that he's slept with nearly every single one of his personal assistants. He must be adding a whole new meaning to personal I'm guessing".
We both giggle over Candice's words before we realize
our break is up an we have to head back to our desks.
Both Candice's and my desks face each other so it's even
more fun to work with one another than it would have
been if our desks would have been across the halls.
Halfway into the large pile of files, the intercom buzzes
as Jeff's voice comes over the line.
"Norah could you please come inn for a moment".
I reply back and enter into his office where a manilla
envelope lies on his desk.
"Mr. Alexander called and said he wants that in his
office as soon as possible. Be a dear and give it to him
would you?".
I calmly nod my head in confirmation and gently grab
the folder in my hand.
Walking out of the office and over to Candice I stare at
her before she looks up and say "I have to give this to
Mr. Alexander".
She laughs at my expression and then gives me
directions on where to go while wishing me luck.
Is he honestly that bad? I think to myself before shaking
the thought out of my head and telling myself to be
Confident.
Entering the lift I press onto the button for the highest
floor which is the thirtieth and wait for the elevator to
arrive to the floor.
The door opens and I walk straight past the secretary
which is exactly what Candice tells me to do so because
apparently the secretary's a straight up bitch.
The woman at the desk barely even looks up at me
before going back down to playing on her phone as I try
to stride confidently to the big oak doors at the end of
the hallway.
I pause right at the doors, taking in the intricate designs,
trying to stall my time.
I take in a deep breath to calm myself down as I reach
my hand up to knock on the door.
My hand hovers in the air, poised to knock on the door
for a second time when a husky and irritated voice
answers from the other side.
"Come in".
I twist the door handle and nervously take a step in, not
looking in front of me as I turn to lightly close the door.
Turning around, I look up and just stare well more like
gawp at the spectacle before me.
Sitting at the table was an Adonis with soft brown eyes,
killer jawline and perfect dark chocolate brown hair
mussed up in that bed head style while still managing
to look completely professional. Regal, just like an angel
sent from above.
Sitting calmly at his desk with an eyebrow raised he
stared at me.
Quickly rearranging my features into as much of a
professional look as I could muster I walk over to his
desk.
How the hell could someone look so beautiful? He isn't anything like what I had imagined him to look
like.
Where's the beer belly and foul breath and dead ass
looking eyes?
"Um Jeff Stevens from the head of the finance
department sent me here to give you this envelope".
As I say this I place the manilla envelope down and
quickly turn to walk away when a voice stops me from
behind.
"Who the hell are you?".
Turning around I look at him in surprise "um excuse
me, sir?"
"Are you deaf? I asked who you were. I haven't seen you
around before and if I had I would've remembered",
Did the guy just compliment me and insult me in the
same sentence?
How dare he?
Still trying to remain civil and polite, I try to smile kindly
and not like I wanted to kill the man.
"I just got hired. It's my first day here".
"Okay and what are you still doing here?" he says flicking me away with a wave of his hand.
What the heck?
Feeling insulted and angry I glare at him while his plump lips curl into a smirk showing pearly straight
white teeth.
With one more sharp look his way I turn around and walk straight back to the lift with my head held high and
trying to regain as much of the confidence as I could that
I had lost just back there in the office.
"Finally" I breathe out in relief while Candice whơ's in
front of me nods in agreement.
The whole day had turned a complete one eighty. It had started out so good and exciting and then left me
irked and irritated after my meeting with that arrogant
rude man.
Obviously as soon as I had come back and informed Jeff
of the deliverance of the envelope I went back to Candice
who was sitting eagerly, waiting for me to dish out why I
had come back looking so forlorn and irked.
After I had told her she laughed but couldn't say
anything about him being an ass towards me because
she had never met him in person herself.
With a sigh I pick up my handbag and say goodbye to
Candice who was staying back a bit late to do some extra
work.
After that I head over to Jeff's office and inform him that
I'm leaving and ask if he needs anything to which he
replies in negative.
Stepping into the elevator I lean my head back against
the cool metal and close my eyes thinking over the whole day.
The beeping of the elevator makes me open my eyes open as it comes to a halt.
Slowly the doors pry open to reveal none other than the
jerk face who had somewhat ruined my day.
Alexander James.
He looked me over and then stepped in with that stupid
smirk still plastered onto his face.
His suit fitting him perfectly with the blazer form fitted
showing off his toned body and slacks that were tight
around the ankles.
I nearly swooned right then and there but then remembered I was still angry at the jerk.
He towered over me making me feel incredibly small.
Why did we have to be the only ones in the elevator? Did the Lord really despise me that much?
Straightening myself up I look ahead, refusing to look at
the man beside me.
"Nora Davis"
I whip my head so fast towards him that I'm sure Il be
getting whiplash soon.
"Twenty four years old, born and raised in California. You have two siblings. One older brother and a younger sister. You graduated a couple of years ago and soon enough got a job at a company working as a secretary but somehow got fired which surprisingly isn't listed why. And now here you are, working for me and my Company".
Staring at him in shock with my eyes bulging out of my
head, I manage to sputter out a "are you stalking me?".
How the frick frack did he know so much?
A deep laugh emits from the person beside me which
makes my face turn a light shade of red.
"I have better things to do with my time then to stalk you sweetheart".
Turning a deeper shade of red I ignore the man and as if
my luck has turned for the better, the elevator halts to a
stop and the doors slide open their and then.
Walking quickly out of the lift with my head held high I come to an abrupt stop as a hand softly wraps around my wrist, gently tugging on it and pulling me into a hard body as Alexander leans into me from behind.
"Ill see you around Nora" and with that he releases my
hand and strides ahead of me across the lobby, leaving
me to stand there in shock as I watch him leave the building without looking back.
Holy shit
