Chapter 2: God is watching what you do

At the very moment of Lin Yu's death, he caught a fleeting glimpse of the future.

It turned out that he hadn't died from an illness, he had been poisoned.

The poisoner was none other than Lin Tianyang, who had been inspired by the infamous case of the Tsinghua University student poisoned with thallium.

And the thallium used to kill Lin Yu had been provided by his own sixth sister, Lin Xuehong.

Lin Xuehong was a doctor, and the Lin family had made their fortune in the medical field. They owned several pharmaceutical factories and two top-tier hospitals, making it all too easy for her to obtain such a deadly substance.

The reason? Lin Tianyang had set his sights on Lin Yu's seventh sister, Su Li.

Su Li already had a boyfriend, and Lin Tianyang's relentless pursuit was met with fierce opposition from Su Li and several of the other sisters.

Even Lan Lin and Lin Yuan, who had always doted on Lin Tianyang, felt he had gone too far. They began to criticize him and even threatened to reclaim the Lin family shares he held.

In response, Lin Tianyang plotted to kill him, the Lin family's seven sisters, as well as Lin Yuan, one by one.

In the end, Lan Lin, upon discovering the truth, wept bitterly, regretting that she had raised such a venomous snake. But her remorse came too late, she, too, was killed by Lin Tianyang.

Lin Yu's silence only fueled Lin Shiyan's fury as she shouted from upstairs.

"Lin Yu, if you don't come up here right now, don't blame me for calling the police on you to make them lock you up."

Lin Shiyan was a lawyer, and she wasn't making empty threats. With her extensive connections in the public security, prosecutorial and legal systems, she could easily make good on her word.

The incident had started with the Lin family's swimming pool. Though the yard boasted a pristine pool, Lin Yu had never been allowed to swim in it. The reason was simple: the family thought he was dirty.

That day, Lin Tianyang had been preparing to change into his swimsuit and take a dip when Lin Yu happened to return from school. As Lin Yu approached, Lin Tianyang 'slipped' and fell into the pool.

Despite being a capable swimmer, Lin Tianyang began shouting for help. Lan Lin heard his cries but was too afraid to jump in herself. Instead, she quickly called for Second Sister Lin Shiyan and Eldest Sister Lin Yaoyao, who were at home. Together, they summoned Old Qin to pull Lin Tianyang, a swimming champion who had nearly drowned out of the water.

Lin Tianyang's pale face filled Lan Lin, Lin Xiaotong, and Lin Shiyan with pity and guilt.

Lin Shiyan cradled Lin Tianyang's head and asked, "Tianyang, don't scare your sister. Tell me, how did you fall in?"

Lan Lin, equally distressed, took Lin Tianyang's hand and said in a self-reproaching tone, "It's all Mom's fault. I'm sorry Yangyang, I didn't take good care of you. I should have had someone on lookout"

Lin Tianyang coughed up a mouthful of pool water and said anxiously, "Sister, Mom, I'm fine. Please don't blame Brother. He didn't do it on purpose…"

And so, Lin Shiyan's furious outburst from upstairs began.

The so-called "upstairs" was actually the first floor, while Lin Yu's bedroom was in the basement.

The Lin family lived in a sprawling detached villa with five floors above ground and a sixth basement level, totaling over twenty rooms. Yet, Lin Yu was relegated to the basement, sharing the space with the servants.

Lin Yu ignored Lin Shiyan's threats and quietly tidied up his small room, folding his bedsheet and packing his meager belongings into his schoolbag.

He knew that in a few minutes, Lin Yuan his father, would return. And when he did, he would be furious, scolding Lin Yu relentlessly. If Lin Yu didn't admit his guilt and show proper remorse, he might even be beaten.

In his previous life, Lin Yu hadn't feared the beatings. What he feared most was being cast out by the Lin family. He had clung to the hope that, through his own efforts, they would eventually accept him. After all, blood was thicker than water, and he believed their coldness was only because they weren't familiar with him yet.

He had desperately wanted a home, a place where he could tell others that he, too, had parents and sisters. That he wasn't an orphan and he had people that loved him.

But on thus same day in his past life, Lin Yuan had threatened him, telling him that if he didn't behave, he would be kicked out, in his own words;

"If you keep causing trouble, then die outside and don't come back. The Lin family can't afford to lose face."

In his previous life, Lin Yu had begged and pleaded, even turning to Lin Tianyang for help, just to change Lin Yuan's mind. 

Well… this time, he would grant their wish.

When he heard the sound of Lin Yuan's car pulling into the yard, Lin Yu finished packing and limped up the basement stairs to the first floor.

The Lin family had an elevator, but after Lin Yu had used it once, his Fifth Sister Lin Yaoyao had ordered the maid, Wang Ma, to disinfect the elevator and spray an air freshener right in front of him. He had never stepped into the elevator again.

After casting a cold glance at Lin Shiyan, whose face was frozen in anger, Lin Yu walked past her and headed toward the living room.

Lin Yu's indifference struck Lin Shiyan as odd. Was this still the same meek and obedient brother she had known?

"Lin Yu, stop right there!" Lin Shiyan called after him.

"People are watching what you do, and In Heaven angels and God are watching too. I never expected you to be so twisted inside. What has Tianyang ever done to you? Was it just because we scolded you last time for trying to enter the swimming pool?"

"You actually pushed Tianyang into the pool. Do you realize you could have killed him?"

"It's clear we can't keep you around anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if you tried to poison Tianyang next!"

"If you don't show some remorse today, I'm telling you, things won't end well for you."

Lin Yu replied indifferently, "Second Sister, I also believe that people are watching what you do, and Heaven is watching too. Sometimes Heaven doesn't act immediately because it's saving all the reckoning for later."

"Don't call me Sister. I don't have such a vicious younger brother."

Lin Shiyan's voice dripped with disdain.

"Do you even know that Tianyang once saved my life? I will never allow anyone to hurt him, not even you, my so-called *younger brother*!"

"Have we ever been unfair to you? Have we ever deprived you of food or clothing? What more do you want? What will it take to make you happy?"

Lin Yu let out a cold sneer. "Ms. Lin, I really must thank your Lin family. For the past four years, you haven't managed to starve me to death. If you consider that your kindness and charity, then fine, I'll accept it."

"Every penny I've spent in your Lin family, every meal I've eaten over the past four years, I remember it all clearly. Don't worry, I'll pay you back every last bit."

At that moment, Eldest Sister Lin Xiaotong walked over and overheard their conversation.

Lin Xiaotong frowned, her tone sharp and disapproving. "Lin Yu, how can you speak to your Second Sister like that? Calling her 'Ms. Lin', since when did you start to address her so formally?"

"For the past four years, haven't we cared for you enough? Is that why you've become so cynical?"

"Is that why you've turned so vicious, even to the point of wanting to kill Tianyang?"

"Do you think that if we turn a blind eye to your wickedness, that's what love and care look like?"

"If that's the case, I'd rather not have you as a younger brother. Raising a tiger is only inviting disaster. Today, you pushed Tianyang into the swimming pool, tomorrow, you might find a way to harm me, your Eldest Sister."

"If you don't show some remorse today, you're in for a world of trouble!"

Sure enough, birds of a feather flock together. These sisters even shared the same script, demanding a reason to his so-called 'attitude'.
