Chapter 64: Dugu Bo’s Dissatisfaction, Dugu Yan, and Yu Tianheng

Chapter 64: Dugu Bo's Dissatisfaction, Dugu Yan, and Yu Tianheng

Meanwhile, as Han Li continued working to expel the remnants of the invasion in his body, Guang Ling and Dugu Bo had already returned to Heaven Dou City.

"Are you coming with me, or should we set a time to meet?" Dugu Bo glanced at Guang Ling beside him.

Throughout their journey, this newly advanced Rank 98 Super Douluo had been acting strangely. He wasn't trading insults with him like before but instead had a peculiar look on his face, as if deep in thought. Worse, he kept staring at Dugu Bo's back from time to time, sending shivers down his spine.

"Let's meet here at five in the afternoon, then we'll go together," Guang Ling responded without hesitation, glancing briefly at Dugu Bo.

"Alright, but don't go back on your word later." Dugu Bo pointed toward the city gate, testing him.

"Get lost, get lost. What's this nonsense? Are you so used to me threatening you that you don't know what to do when I don't?" Guang Ling rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed, though not specifically at Dugu Bo he simply had a general disdain for most people.

"Got it. See you in the afternoon."

Dugu Bo turned and walked briskly toward the city gate. As he gained some distance, his voice drifted back, "First, I'll head to Spirit Hall and relay the request for soul beasts to search for Han Li's third ring. Then, I'll have Salas contact Qian Renxue directly. Oh, and I'll send a message to Spirit City saying I've had some insights and need to stay a bit longer. Perfect."

Guang Ling ignored Dugu Bo's departing figure, standing in place in contemplation for a while before making his way toward the city at a leisurely pace.

At Dugu Bo's Residence

After entering the city, Dugu Bo went straight to his mansion, checking that everything was in order. Upon learning from the servants that Dugu Yan had not returned home during his absence, he gathered some medicinal herbs, left a brief message, and swiftly departed again.

Initially, he had planned to go straight to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, but then he remembered Guang Ling had made him run around collecting vegetables and fruits in the morning. So, he took a detour to a nearby shop.

Fifteen minutes later, he patted the pouch hanging from his waist, satisfied, as he stepped out of the store. Only then did he hail a carriage toward Heaven Dou Royal Academy.

Dugu Bo was a familiar figure at the academy, known to all as a doting (granddaughter obsessed) grandfather.

The gatekeepers, catching the faint medicinal scent mixed with an almost undetectable stench of toxins, immediately recognized him and let him through without question. One of the senior guards even smugly raised an eyebrow at a newly assigned recruit, proudly showing off his ability to recognize the famed Poison Douluo.

Indeed, Qian Renxue had acted swiftly one of the previous gatekeepers had already been replaced.

The remaining one had a canine type martial soul with an innate ability to memorize scents. Yesterday, his colleague had been inexplicably transferred, confirming his suspicions: the fool must have stubbornly insisted on checking credentials and ended up offending someone important. Unlike him, who wisely memorized the scent of notable figures and had never made such mistakes.

Dugu Bo, oblivious to the guards' reactions, strode through the academy without sparing them a glance.

In the academy, even the three major board members had to greet him with respect. He certainly wasn't about to concern himself with small fry.

After estimating the time, he headed directly to the Royal Battle Team's training grounds.

Although Dugu Yan and her peers weren't the latest tournament participants, the recent generations were far too weak, losing the privilege of training there. As a result, the current academy prodigies had been given early access to prepare for future competitions.

As expected, Dugu Bo spotted Dugu Yan resting by the training grounds. Judging by her state, she had just finished a round of training.

"Yan Yan."

A smile spread across Dugu Bo's face.

"Grandfather, you're back!"

Hearing the familiar voice, Dugu Yan turned her head and saw her grandfather standing at the edge of the training ground, smiling at her.

"Teacher, my grandfather is here. I'll go talk to him for a bit I won't take long, and it won't affect training."

Dugu Yan politely addressed her newly appointed instructor, Qin Ming.

"That's fine, go ahead. It's break time anyway, no need to check in with me," Qin Ming replied with a warm smile.

He hadn't been in the academy long, and landing the position of instructor for the Royal Battle Team was both unexpected and fortunate.

Despite their arrogance, the team members were at least well mannered, which gave him a sense of fulfillment as a teacher.

Moreover, he was well aware that Dugu Yan's grandfather was the renowned Poison Douluo.

Since both grandfather and granddaughter had always been respectful of academy rules, allowing him some authority in his role, he naturally reciprocated the courtesy.

As Dugu Yan jogged over to her grandfather, among the resting students, a sturdy, short haired young man in a blue uniform discreetly glanced back at them a few times.

At the edge of the training field, Dugu Yan threw herself into her grandfather's embrace, nuzzling her head against him before pouting and looking up.

"Grandfather, you're two days late from our agreed time. I'm upset how are you going to make it up to me?"

Dugu Bo chuckled as his granddaughter acted spoiled, rubbing her head affectionately. "Grandfather knows he was wrong. Tell me, Yan Yan, what do you want as compensation? I'll make sure you get it."

"Hmm… I can't think of anything right now. I'll save it for later."

Dugu Yan tilted her head, hands behind her back, pondering for a moment before shaking her head and postponing her request.

"Alright, we'll do it your way. Consider it saved for later."

Dugu Bo smiled lovingly at his granddaughter.

Then, in that unguarded moment, his expression darkened as he noticed Yu Tianheng sneaking glances in their direction. With a snort, he coldly huffed.

Noticing her grandfather's shift in mood, Dugu Yan turned to follow his gaze and happened to catch Yu Tianheng looking away. She immediately understood why her grandfather was annoyed.

"Alright, Grandpa, don't mind him. Your granddaughter would never be interested in someone like him. He's too indecisive not manly at all."

Dugu Yan giggled, wrapping her arms around Dugu Bo's arm and swinging it playfully.

Hearing this, Dugu Bo's expression finally improved.

Truth be told, while he was protective of his granddaughter, he wasn't opposed to her dating after all, in the world of soul masters, she was already considered an adult.

What he disliked was that despite seeing him multiple times, that brat Yu Tianheng was still hesitant, never daring to approach him directly to greet him.

For someone supposedly the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's prodigy, if he couldn't even muster the courage to face his crush's guardian, what future could he possibly have?

Good thing Yan Yan wasn't interested in him.

In the past, Dugu Bo might have tolerated Yu Tianheng due to the clan backing him. Even if he died early, at least his family would protect Yan Yan.

But now?

With Han Li as a new benchmark, what was Yu Tianheng compared to that?

Talent, strength, background, courage, character Han Li surpassed him in every way.

To be honest, Yu Tianheng was no longer worth his consideration.

Now was the perfect opportunity to subtly plant the idea in his granddaughter's mind.

Knowing her well, he was confident that once she heard about Han Li, she'd be intrigued. If things played out right, he might not even have to interfere everything would fall into place naturally.

Hah! Just wait, Guang Ling. You'll be calling me uncle soon enough. Let's see how smug you are then!

Dugu Bo couldn't help but grin triumphantly.

With that thought, he eagerly activated a soul power barrier around himself and Dugu Yan, blocking out external sounds.

He didn't care that they were still at the training ground's edge.

He was about to have a very important conversation.
