Henry and Lily bolted as the massive creature in the shadows let out a low, bone-rattling growl.
The cavern trembled, dust falling from the ceiling. The glow of its huge, blue eyes illuminated jagged teeth the size of Henry's entire arm.
Henry pointed dramatically. "Okay! That is not a normal sea creature!"
Lily, sprinting beside him, yelled, "What gave it away?! The glowing eyes or the fact that it's bigger than our ship?!"
Behind them, the beast lunged, its shadowy form shifting, tentacles and claws scraping against the cavern walls.
Henry screamed. "It has both?! That's cheating!"
Up Above:
Scarlet paced along the now-collapsed floor, her fingers digging into her temples. "They fell. They definitely fell."
Boggart sighed. "This always happens."
Marrow was already lighting a bomb. "Should I just blow our way down?"
Shade examined the collapsed rubble. "That might crush them."
Marrow pouted. "Oh. Right. We don't wanna crush them."
Scarlet exhaled. "Alright. We need a way down—"
The ground rumbled again.
A loud, monstrous roar echoed from below.
Scarlet's eyes widened. "Oh no."
Boggart muttered, "Oh no."
Marrow grinned. "Oh yes."
Scarlet grabbed his arm. "No bombs!"
Marrow groaned. "You're no fun."
Shade crouched, pressing a hand against the stone. "I can hear movement. They're still alive… for now."
Scarlet exhaled. "Alright, we're getting them out of there. FAST."
Meanwhile, Back in the Monster's Dinner Plate
Henry and Lily sprinted across the cavern floor as the giant, glowing-eyed monster smashed through ancient pillars behind them.
Henry risked a glance back. "Okay! We need a plan!"
Lily dodged a falling boulder. "Oh, you think?!"
The beast lunged again, tentacles whipping out—Henry and Lily barely dodged as one slammed into the stone beside them.
Henry pointed ahead. "There! That tunnel!"
A narrow opening in the rock, barely big enough for a person to fit through.
Lily didn't hesitate. "I love not getting eaten!"
They dove through just as the beast's jaws snapped shut behind them—narrowly missing Henry's coat.
Henry gasped. "That was my best coat!"
Lily patted his back. "You can cry later, Captain Dramatic. We need to keep moving!"
The tunnel twisted, leading deeper into the ruins. The roars of the monster echoed behind them, but the passage was too small for it to follow.
Lily pulled out the Azure Pearl, grinning. "Still got it!"
Henry gave a tired thumbs-up. "Nice. Now let's find a way out before something else tries to kill us."
Then—
The ground disappeared beneath them.
Both of them plummeted straight down.
Lily screamed. "WHY IS EVERYTHING A TRAP?!"
Henry flailed. "WELCOME TO MY LIFE!"
