Chapter 11: Rise Again, My Soft Bone Rabbit!
"Hmm… Since your soul power training schedule is already full, how about I take you treasure hunting instead? Some heavenly materials and earthly treasures are often overlooked by ordinary soul masters but I know how to recognize them! If you can get your hands on a few, it'll be a great boost to your strength."
"Really, Tianmeng Bro?" Huo Yuhao asked in surprise.
To be honest, in the early chapters of the original story, before Ice Empress appeared, Tianmeng Ice Silkworm spent most of his time asleep. He only woke up during critical moments, such as when he helped Huo Yuhao survive Ma Xiaotao's attack.
However, after Ice Empress joined the picture, Tianmeng's nap time decreased drastically.
After all, while Tianmeng loved sleeping, he loved talking to Ice Empress even more.
He was constantly trying to build a romantic relationship with her and if he slept all the time, wouldn't he lose countless opportunities to flirt?
"Of course! My word is absolute! Besides, sleeping is just a habit I developed over time. Whenever you have time for treasure hunting, just let me know!" Tianmeng said.
In his mind, if he could help Huo Yuhao acquire some rare treasures this semester, it would greatly improve his body's condition, increasing the success rate of Ice Empress merging as a soul bone.
"Alright, Tianmeng Bro," Huo Yuhao replied.
Then, he refocused on his lessons.
Thanks to his strong spiritual power, he could multitask effortlessly paying attention in class while having a mental conversation with Tianmeng.
After listening for a while, Huo Yuhao noticed that while Zhao Feng did teach a lot about soul tools, he also frequently injected his own opinions into the lesson.
Criticizing Tang San, the Shrek Seven Devils, and the Douluo Three Kingdoms for falling behind in soul tool technology was perfectly reasonable after all, that was a fact.
However, as Zhao Feng continued, he started drifting into pro Sun Moon Empire propaganda.
He spoke about the glory of the Sun Moon Empire, the necessity of unifying the Douluo Continent, and loyalty to the royal family.
It was obvious someone had instructed Zhao Feng to say these things.
The students in this classroom were around eleven years old an age where children were easily influenced by authority figures.
*"The Sun Moon Empire really starts indoctrination at a young age, huh? No wonder they were already preparing for war so early on…
"If it weren't for Tang Wutong suddenly dropping her ninth soul skill, Sea God's Descent, the Sun Moon Empire would've already conquered the Douluo Continent.
"Even Empress Battle God Juzi was ultimately played by the divine plot armor of Tang San!
"Of course, Xu Tianran colluding with the Holy Spirit Cult was a huge mistake.
"Those guys were murderous evil soul masters. While abilities themselves are neutral, people still have moral alignments!"*
As a modern person, Huo Yuhao naturally disliked evil soul masters.
Most of them practiced extremely cruel cultivation methods, making them a complete menace to society.
Afternoon
Huo Yuhao arrived at the First Year Teaching Building and waited for a while. Soon, he saw Xuan Ziwen approaching.
For now, Huo Yuhao's top priority was becoming a Rank 1 Soul Engineer.
Only after mastering the basics could he move on to advancing toward Rank 2.
Becoming a soul engineer was incredibly expensive requiring vast amounts of rare metals for crafting and experimentation.
However, soul engineers also made a fortune.
Almost every successful soul engineer was filthy rich.
And since Xuan Ziwen was limited by his martial soul, preventing him from becoming a Rank 9 Soul Engineer, he had instead focused on making money which meant that he was extremely wealthy.
"Follow me," Xuan Ziwen said flatly.
"Yes, Teacher Xuan," Huo Yuhao replied, following him toward the Sixth Year Teaching Building.
Soon, they arrived at a specific door labeled "Third Laboratory."
"Listen up. Once we enter, you need to follow my instructions exactly. If I tell you not to touch something, don't touch it," Xuan Ziwen warned.
As he spoke, he pulled out a metal plaque and waved it in front of the door.
A flash of light swept across the plaque, and the lab doors slowly opened.
Huo Yuhao stepped inside and saw a massive silver white table in the center of the room.
On top of the table lay a lifeless white furred rabbit, with traces of blood near its mouth.
"This is…" Huo Yuhao asked, puzzled.
"Oh, this is a Soft Bone Rabbit, a type of soul beast we use for soul tool experimentation.
"They've made countless sacrifices for soul tool research.
"In fact, I've even considered proposing to the Hall Master that we build a statue in their honor, to commemorate their contributions!"
Xuan Ziwen sighed emotionally, his gaze toward the rabbit filled with an unusual warmth.
Huo Yuhao froze for a moment, his mind spinning.
*"Soft Bone Rabbit…? Isn't that the same species as Xiao Wu?!
"Since when did they become another world's lab rats?!
"Although, considering how fast rabbits reproduce, Xiao Wu a hundred thousand year soul beast shouldn't have been single before meeting Tang San…
"If this rabbit is somehow related to Xiao Wu, then Xuan Ziwen, you're already on the path to death!"*
"Here try using this soul tool," Xuan Ziwen said.
"As a future soul engineer, you must familiarize yourself with the tools that will accompany you for the longest time.
"Don't worry, this is just a Rank 1 Long Range Soul Tool with your current strength, you should be able to use it without issue."
As he spoke, he handed Huo Yuhao a silver soul tool gun.
"What does this soul tool do?" Huo Yuhao asked, examining it carefully.
"It's very simple it fires a healing ray.
"This Soft Bone Rabbit isn't actually dead it just suffered internal injuries during an experiment and fell unconscious.
"Try using the gun to heal it," Xuan Ziwen instructed.
"Understood, Teacher Xuan," Huo Yuhao replied.
Feeling a bit helpless, he pointed the barrel of the soul tool gun at the rabbit.
By now, he had already learned some basics about soul tools in class, so operating a Rank 1 soul tool wasn't difficult at all.
As he channeled his soul power into the gun's core inscription array, he pulled the trigger.
A pale green beam shot out from the muzzle, landing directly on the Soft Bone Rabbit's body.
"Rise again, my Soft Bone Rabbit!"
A green glow enveloped the rabbit, filling it with a vital energy that quickly restored its injuries.
A few moments later, the rabbit's red eyes snapped open.
It darted its gaze around the room, looking extremely wary of the humans surrounding it.
Then, it immediately turned and bolted in the opposite direction.
But how could a mere rabbit outrun Xuan Ziwen?
With a swift movement, Xuan Ziwen grabbed the rabbit by its ears and lifted it into the air.
Despite its frantic struggling, it was completely powerless to resist.
Without hesitation, Xuan Ziwen pulled out a silver glowing cage and locked the rabbit inside.
Not even looking back, he asked,
"Huo Yuhao, what do you think of this soul tool gun?"
"It's very impressive," Huo Yuhao answered with a smile.
"Impressive? Ha… It's still far inferior to a one ring soul master with a healing type ability.
"It can only heal one target at a time, and its overall healing effect is mediocre at best."
Xuan Ziwen sighed in disappointment.
