The night sky was full of stars, with the wind and clouds gentle in their embrace.
Lin Jiufeng held Wen Xinyun in his arms, speeding through the sky, leaving waves of clouds in his wake. Wen Xinyun was weak and suffering, and Lin Jiufeng was determined to get her to Yuhua Sect as quickly as possible to administer the Qiu Long Root.
At that moment, his speed soared far beyond when he had arrived. The land beneath him blurred past in an instant, and only the bright moon continued to chase him, lighting the way home.
In just one night, Lin Jiufeng traveled hundreds of thousands of miles. As dawn broke, he landed in front of the Scripture Hall.
The white fox, who had been meditating, suddenly caught wind of Lin Jiufeng's presence. Excited, she rushed out, greeting him joyfully, "You're back!"
However, when she saw Wen Xinyun weakly resting in his arms, the white fox's expression changed. "What happened to her?"
"She's just weak from dispersing her cultivation. I need to treat her now. Please guard us," Lin Jiufeng said as he walked into the study, shutting the doors and windows tightly before gently laying Wen Xinyun on the bed.
The white fox immediately stood guard outside, worry etched across her face.
Inside, Wen Xinyun was unconscious, her breath faint and her complexion as pale as a withering rose, on the verge of fading away. Lin Jiufeng's face grew serious as he retrieved the Qiu Long Root, expertly beginning to extract its energy.
Fortunately, his previous study of basic alchemy had given him ample knowledge of medicinal herbs and their properties, allowing him to help Wen Xinyun effectively. Given her current condition, consuming the Qiu Long Root directly would do more harm than good. It was a powerful celestial medicine, and ingesting it without proper preparation would likely destroy a person, even one in perfect health, let alone someone as frail as Wen Xinyun.
Thus, Lin Jiufeng had to carefully extract the root's energy and introduce it into Wen Xinyun's body, letting her slowly absorb it and heal her injuries, reshape her foundation, and enhance her talents. This process required great patience and precision.
Lin Jiufeng was thankful for his understanding of basic alchemy; his movements were smooth, flawless, and without a hitch.
He became a conduit, holding Wen Xinyun's hand and transferring the extracted energy from the Qiu Long Root through his body, filtering its violent power and converting it into a gentle energy that was safely delivered to Wen Xinyun.
This method eliminated any risk that the Qiu Long Root's power might have otherwise posed to Wen Xinyun. The only catch was that Lin Jiufeng could not move during the process, but that was no issue for him.
Buzz... buzz...
In the study, the Qiu Long Root radiated circles of blood-red energy, transforming into illusory dragons that roared and writhed around Lin Jiufeng. He absorbed the energy as it swirled around him, which soon calmed into a gentle, red energy before entering Wen Xinyun's body, beginning the healing process.
Gradually, a faint color returned to Wen Xinyun's face, and strength began to return to her body.
Time passed—whether it was hours or days, Lin Jiufeng couldn't tell.
Eventually, Wen Xinyun slowly opened her eyes, blinking in confusion. She saw Lin Jiufeng sitting motionless beside her bed, as still as a statue.
The Qiu Long Root still floated around him, its energy drained, and the blood-red dragons had become faint, absorbed by Lin Jiufeng. Wen Xinyun noticed that Lin Jiufeng had been holding her hand, slowly feeding her energy.
Her soft gaze lingered on him, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
As the last traces of the Qiu Long Root's energy were absorbed and transferred to Wen Xinyun, Lin Jiufeng finally opened his eyes, releasing her hand, and stood to stretch his stiff body.
Wen Xinyun placed her hand on her chest, feeling the warmth within, and softly spoke, "Shibo (Master Uncle), I feel much better. Thank you."
Lin Jiufeng smiled warmly, "What's there to thank when it's from your Shibo?"
Wen Xinyun smiled sweetly.
"Rest well here for a while. Once you've regained your strength, you can leave," Lin Jiufeng said.
Wen Xinyun nodded obediently.
"Take care. I'll step outside for a while," Lin Jiufeng said as he turned to leave. He wondered just how much time had passed while treating her.
Wen Xinyun's gaze followed him until he disappeared, then closed her eyes with a smile, drifting into a peaceful sleep.
Outside the study, the white fox had remained close by. When Lin Jiufeng emerged, she jumped into his arms.
"How long has it been?" Lin Jiufeng asked.
The white fox tilted her head. "Five days. Wen Xinyun should be fine now, right?"
"She's fine. Just let her sleep for now, then she can begin cultivating again," Lin Jiufeng replied.
"Start over with cultivation? That sounds rough," the white fox remarked, surprised.
"With the Qiu Long Root, she'll recover quickly, and it has even changed her root bones and enhanced her talents. In the long run, this will be a blessing in disguise," Lin Jiufeng explained seriously.
"While you were treating Wen Xinyun, the Wen family sent a gift as compensation," the white fox said, gesturing toward the piles of large crates in the hall.
Lin Jiufeng raised an eyebrow. "Who sent it?"
"It was Wen Yang. The Sect Leader invited him to stay, but he said he couldn't face you, so he just dropped the goods off and left," the white fox explained.
"What did he do that he couldn't face you?" the white fox asked curiously.
"I'm just as curious," came a sudden voice from behind.
Lin Jiufeng turned to see Bai Yunfei, Lao Yang, Yue Dashan, and Zhou Tianzi had arrived.
"Shibo, is Senior Sister alright?" Yue Dashan asked with concern.
The others also looked at him worriedly.
Lin Jiufeng nodded. "She's fine. Just let her rest here for now, and she'll recover her cultivation in no time."
Bai Yunfei looked satisfied. "I knew that once Senior Brother stepped in, everything would be fine."
Lin Jiufeng shook his head. "This wasn't easy. If it weren't for a bit of strength, Wen Xinyun would've been in real trouble."
"What happened?" Bai Yunfei's face turned serious, his tone full of concern.
Lin Jiufeng recounted everything that had transpired.
Everyone listened in silence, their expressions darkening with anger.
When they heard that Wen Shisan had tried to take back the Qiu Long Root and let Wen Xinyun fend for herself, even the usually calm Zhou Tianzi's face turned pale with fury. "The Wen family deserves to die!"
Lin Jiufeng laughed. "Shibo already dealt with them. These precious books you see here are their compensation."
"From now on, there will be no further dealings between Yuhua Sect and the Wen family," Bai Yunfei announced angrily.
"Alright, everything is settled now. But you all should focus on cultivating. Though your Senior Sister has lost her cultivation, with the Qiu Long Root, she will soon surpass you all. So make sure you use every opportunity to improve yourselves," Lin Jiufeng teased Yue Dashan and Zhou Tianzi.
The two stiffened, their expressions serious as they exchanged a glance and immediately turned to leave, fully focused on their cultivation.
Though they called each other senior brother and sister, none of them were willing to be outdone by the others. They were always secretly competing, each thinking they were the strongest.
