Chapter 3

The entrance to the luxurious suite at the top of Nanshan.

As the voices inside the suite began to sound, my hand, poised to push the door, halted in mid-air.

"Brother Yan, look quickly, your video at the entrance of the civil affairs bureau has gone viral! When you were leaving with that scholarship student, the sister-in-law didn't look good at all!" It was Zhong Zhou's voice; he was Chi Yan's childhood friend.

"What? She thinks she's in the right? If she hadn't been so persistent, would people have recognized me?" Chi Yan's tone was laced with irritation.

"Brother Yan, you should hurry home and appease sister-in-law!"

"Brother Yan, you're not really going to marry that Xintong, are you?"

"Xintong only has me. Who will help her if I don't? I've already said it's fake. Why is she upset?" Chi Yan's voice was indifferent.

"The sister-in-law is actually a good person, beautiful, quiet, and takes care of Brother Yan meticulously. You have no idea how envious your brothers are of you..."

He sighed and his tone softened.

"An'an, she's great, like a bowl of plain porridge."

"Too monotonous, not much flavor."

"Even if it's easy on the stomach, after seven years, it's become tiresome!"

"Then why did you get married?"

"Because she's obedient! She's so well-behaved, making her the perfect Mrs. Chi!"

I tightened my grip on the doorknob.

It was clearly August, the height of summer, yet my whole body felt as cold as if I were inside a refrigerating chamber.

After a long time, I straightened my back and pushed open the intricately designed crystal door of the suite.

As soon as I entered, everyone's gaze fell on me.

Zhong Zhou saw me and quickly stood up to greet me, "Sister-in-law is here, please come in."

I took a deep breath and slowly walked over to Chi Yan, dropping the paper bag containing the wedding dress onto his face.

Very gently, I said, "Chi Yan, we are over!"

The shredded wedding dress pieces scattered all over Chi Yan, and the broken diamonds cut his brow.

The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.

He was momentarily stunned and brushed aside the tissues Zhong Zhou handed over, standing up abruptly, looking down at me with a cold gaze, "Xiong An'an, what exactly do you want to do?"

I quietly looked at him.

His face, something rare for him, flushed red.

Maybe years of obedience made it hard for him to accept me as I was now.

Zhong Zhou tried to smooth things over, "Sister-in-law, don't be angry, let's just have a seat and talk..."

"No need, I've said what I needed to, you all continue."

I walked out of the suite, closing the door casually, hearing someone behind me say, "Brother Yan, go after her!"

"What is there to pursue? Where can she go without me? She'll be back crying in a few days to beg me." Chi Yan kicked the table, his smile cold.

"I have a feeling sister-in-law is different this time, she might really be serious!"

"After so many years, when hasn't it been like this? Not a single new trick!"

"Don't worry, she can't leave me!"

"Within three days, she'll come back to beg me, bet on it!"

"All these years, as an orphan, if not for me giving her a home, who knows where she'd be..."

Listening to Chi Yan's lazy laughter, I let out a self-mocking laugh and quickly stepped into the elevator.

As I entered the elevator, I suddenly leaned against the wall of the elevator, large tears crushing down onto the floor.
