Chapter 4

I don't know how long it has been before I drowsily woke up in the hospital.

Weakened and alone, only Chen Gen was by my side. His gaze remained indifferent, showing no concern.

"You're finally awake. Pretending to be dead for long enough, huh? The doctors said you're fine now. How long do you plan to lie here?"

I said nothing, reaching out to touch my stomach.

"Stop touching it. That bastard child was aborted. Someone secretly called the police. Later they'll take your statement, so don't say anything you shouldn't!"

What?!

My child is gone!

My own flesh and blood, never seen, died in the womb!

Tears filled my eyes as I weakly questioned the murderer before me: "How could you be so cruel! That was your child! You killed him! You and your mother killed my child!"

"Shut up! Do you want to die? If you tell the police that, you know the consequences! I'm telling you, with my connections, this is nothing but a domestic dispute at most! I'm warning you nicely, don't refuse a good offer!"

Chen Gen viciously covered my mouth, nearly suffocating me.

Seeing my painful struggle, he let go and continued to threaten me not to say anything that could harm his mother.

"Are you even human? What am I? What about our child?"

Unexpectedly, Chen Gen watched without any guilt, pity, or heartache as his own child was aborted.

Even if it were a dead dog, he shouldn't be this calm.

"My child? I don't acknowledge it. After what I've done to you, you'd still bear my child? I don't believe it. Besides, I already have someone else outside. Once we're divorced, I'll bring him home. Rest assured, I'll give you fifty thousand, and you cooperate with the divorce. We'll part on good terms."

It's hard to imagine such words coming from a human, but Chen Gen said them naturally, as if he were doing me a favor.

"Your mother killed my child, and you think it just ends like that?"

"Watch your words! You fell on your own. You said you'd done wrong by me and wanted to abort the child. My mother disagreed. While arguing, my mother tried to support you, causing you to fall down the stairs. Got it? Just don't say a word against my mother, or if she goes to jail, you're doomed!"

I was heartbroken and devastated, looking at my scarred self, thinking of my dead child, and agreed tearfully.

Seeing my agreement, Chen Gen nodded in satisfaction, tossed a bank card down, and left. He said once the statement was done, get discharged and then go to the civil affairs bureau for divorce.

No one cared how weak I was. Mrs. Chen instructed that staying another day was a waste of hospital fees.

The police finished taking my statement quickly. They sensed something was amiss, but with my insistence on not revealing the truth, they had no way to continue investigating.

Because I knew clearly that telling the police the truth would be pointless; at most, they'd get a year or so, and with the Chen Family's influence, they'd be out in months, which would be too lenient.

Murder must be punished with death! Blood debts must be repaid in blood!

Chen Gen and his mother, the two culprits, along with the Chen Family relatives, none of them can escape.
