Chapter 2

Her father, however, pleaded with me because of Melody, saying, "Brother John, you see how severely Delia is burned. Can't you transplant all the good skin on her body to Melody?"

I thought John would flatly refuse, but to prevent me from intervening, he actually gave me a sleeping pill.

Poor Delia. By the time I arrived, the surgery was already complete.

Delia cried every day from the searing pain of her burns.

"Mommy, Delia hurts so much. I can't take it anymore."

When I heard these words, my heart felt like it was being stabbed, but I still managed to comfort Delia.

"Baby, Daddy is out trying to raise money. Once we have the money, Delia can have surgery, and then it won't hurt anymore."

However, Delia was just a child after all and couldn't bear this kind of suffering. She jumped from the hospital's rooftop.

In the end, my daughter couldn't wait for the life-saving money to arrive.

I held my daughter's body, crying until my voice was hoarse. Today is the day of Delia's burial.

But John is here accompanying another woman and someone else's child.

How can I not hate? How can I not be furious? The security guard tossed me out, and suddenly the urn in my hands slipped and fell.

Delia's ashes scattered across the ground. Desperately, I knelt down, scooping up the ashes with my hands and trying to put them back into the urn.

But this damn wind was relentless, blowing constantly. I scraped my hands raw against the pavement, but still couldn't gather all the scattered ashes.

I stood up, clutching the urn, laughing and crying hysterically. Passersby stared at me with looks of bewilderment.

Suddenly, I saw Delia waiting for me in the middle of the street, smiling and waving.

I rushed towards her, talking as I walked.

"Delia, wait for Mommy. Please don't leave Mommy behind again, okay?"

A deafening crash, and my body was suddenly airborne.

When I hit the ground, I felt nothing at first. After a moment, excruciating pain engulfed my entire body.

So this is how much it hurts when your body is thrown to the ground. Oh, Delia, how much pain must you have been in?

Suddenly, I saw Mom. She was running towards me in a panic.

That's right, I hadn't told Mom about Delia's death yet. I only told her to come and take over for a day when I was too exhausted to go on.I looked at the despair in my mother's face, caught between the ashes of her granddaughter and the body of her daughter.

Just as I tried to grab my mom's hand, I realized mine passed right through her body. I couldn't touch her anymore!

At that moment, Delia's voice whispered in my ear.

"Don't cry, Mom. We can still keep Grandma company this way."

I saw my deceased daughter appear before me and broke down in tears, hugging her tightly.

My little girl, she was so young. How could John be so heartless? How could he give away all their chances to another woman?

Melody was Delia's dance teacher, who had been instructing her since she was three years old.

Melody's daughter Melody became Delia's confidante and best friend due to their similar ages.
