Chapter 9

I wanted to see just how shameless John could be.

But taking care of a patient isn't so easy, and no matter how laid-back John's job was, it couldn't allow him to be absent all day, every day.

In less than two weeks, the company fired him outright, citing his constant absences as the reason.

It was only then that he finally thought of me, calling my phone only to find it was turned off.

So he went directly to Delia's previous hospital room, and when he didn't find us there, he asked a nurse.

"Excuse me, what happened to the patient who was in room 501?"

The nurse hesitated for a moment, then said, "They were transferred. They left after finding a suitable skin graft."

At this, John seemed to find an outlet for his frustration: "They found one and couldn't even bother to tell me? Damn it!" He spat viciously.

What he didn't know was that the nurse was no longer talking about Delia, but about a new patient who had been admitted just that morning.
