Chapter 5

The defenses I held so firmly almost wavered under his tender gaze.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, fireworks exploded just at the right moment, like dazzling stars, capturing my full attention.

"Do you like it? It's for you. Remember during the high school graduation party, you said you wished someone could make the stars shine for you in the night sky."

The man wrapped his arms around me from behind, his embrace burning hot.

Tears blurred the beautiful scene of myriad stars before my eyes, and I felt my heart ache terribly.

He and I were high school classmates. I had a crush on him for three years, but by graduation, I still couldn't muster the courage to confess my feelings.

Therefore, when I found out he was the one I was arranged to marry, I desperately tried to grasp any possibility of a beautiful future for us.

I turned to meet his eyes, just as tears were about to spill over.
