Chapter 1

After winning 70 million in the lottery, I didn't hesitate for a second, immediately quit my current crappy job, and planned to move back home and take it easy. I mean, with all that money, who still works?

During this time, I also found out that my sister is pregnant, a double blessing! I booked a high-speed train ticket that night and rushed back home.

Mom rarely cooks herself, but she made a big table of dishes and asked me if something was wrong at work, why I suddenly came back.

I know she's concerned about me, our usual way of getting along is pretty relaxed, so I joked, "Mom, I got fired from the company. I might need you to support me from now on."

Mom's face changed, and her tone became noticeably lower.

"What? Weren't you doing well at that company? How could you suddenly get fired? Did something go wrong at work?"

"You, you, didn't I tell you not to play with your phone while working, to be more focused and serious? It's so competitive these days, it's really hard for young people who get fired to find jobs again!"

Looking at my mom's reproachful expression, I felt she wasn't joking but sincerely blaming me, as if I'd come back to ruin their family.

I couldn't help but frown, just about to reveal the truth, when my brother-in-law suddenly spoke up.

"Bro, why didn't you keep looking for a job after being fired? Don't tell me you plan on staying unemployed at home?"

I smiled and said, "Yeah, and since Lanlan is pregnant, I can help take care of her at home, so you won't get too tired."

My sister, Ye Lan, and Lin Jiang have been married for over three years. Because Lin Jiang always works in a factory and inevitably comes into contact with some chemicals, they hadn't been able to conceive all these years. Lin Jiang often got talked about behind his back by the village women, saying he wasn't capable in that department, which is why my sister couldn't get pregnant.

With Lin Jiang being talked about, we as relatives naturally felt disgraced. Helpless, I found an old Chinese doctor specializing in infertility in the big city. After some time on Chinese medicine, my sister finally got pregnant, and everyone was happy. Lin Jiang no longer had to endure those whisperings.

In all honesty, I think my relationship with Lin Jiang is quite good. Although Ye Lan is my stepfather's daughter, there aren't many hard feelings between us, which extends to my relationship with Lin Jiang being quite close too.

But to my surprise, as soon as I finished speaking, Lin Jiang put down his chopsticks and fired off a barrage of questions.

"Bro, if you stay at home all the time, who's going to cover the living expenses?"

"Dad and mom's earnings are limited, they can't just support you because you can't find a job, right?"

"Besides, once Lanlan has the baby, the money for formula and for a nanny, that's another significant expense. You can't just stay at home all the time."

Once Lin Jiang said this, the dinner table fell silent, mom also put down her chopsticks, her face a bit pale.

"If you really can't find a job, then move out. There's no place for you in this house!"

The words were merciless, my previously relaxed expression turned a bit gloomy, and I pretended not to care, saying, "Jiang, you can't say that, right? I'm just staying unemployed at home for a while, it's just an extra pair of chopsticks."

"Besides, I didn't earn much from my last job, and now that I've just lost it, I don't even have money to rent a place."
