Chapter 31: Understanding Humans
Kael-X spent the next few days blending into human society. He worked at the docks, earning just enough money to afford a cheap motel room and food. Though the job was easy for him, he had to carefully control his strength to avoid suspicion.
However, he still had many questions. What was the purpose of human society? Why were they so obsessed with money? Why did they rely so much on technology?
To find answers, he needed to observe them more closely.

A Visit to the Library
One evening, after finishing his shift, Kael-X found himself wandering through the city. He passed by a large building with a sign that read:
"Public Library – Open to All."
Curious, he stepped inside. The scent of old books filled the air, and people sat quietly at wooden tables, reading. A woman at the front desk looked up.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
Kael-X nodded. "I need information about… everything."
The woman chuckled. "That's a lot to learn. What are you interested in?"
Kael-X thought for a moment. "History. Science. How humans live."
She nodded and pointed toward a row of bookshelves. "Start over there."
Kael-X spent hours flipping through books, absorbing human knowledge at an alarming rate. He learned about wars, inventions, different cultures, and the concept of governments.
"Humans are more interesting than I think, they don't just have enough strength but they don't lack intellectual ability, even though their techs are far behind, it's better than none"
Most importantly, he learned how human power structures worked—how those with the most money controlled everything.
"Now I understand,on Earth money answereth all things"

Encounter at a Café
After leaving the library, Kael-X sat at a small café, watching people interact. A group of students sat nearby, laughing and talking about things he didn't fully understand—movies, social media, relationships.
One of them, a young woman with dark curly hair, noticed him staring.
"You new around here?" she asked.
Kael-X nodded. "Yes."
She tilted her head. "You don't talk much, do you?"
"I prefer to observe."
She chuckled. "Mysterious. What's your name?"
"…Kael."
"I'm Maya." She extended a hand. Kael-X hesitated before shaking it.
Something about human interactions fascinated him. They formed connections easily, relying on emotions more than logic. It was inefficient… but also intriguing.
As the conversation continued, Maya asked, "Where do you live?"
Kael-X hesitated. "Nowhere permanent."
She frowned. "If you ever need a place to crash, my cousin runs a small apartment building. It's cheap, but decent."
Kael-X considered it. A stable living space would make it easier to stay unnoticed.
"I'll think about it."
Maya smiled. "Cool. See you around, Kael."

A Growing Awareness
That night, as Kael-X lay in his motel room, he realized something. Humans were more complex than he thought. They were weak compared to him, but their ability to connect, adapt, and build relationships gave them a strange kind of strength.
If he truly wanted to blend in, he would need to do more than just observe.
He would need to become one of them.
Kael-X spent the next few days testing different aspects of human life. He didn't just watch anymore—he participated.
He went back to the docks and worked harder, mimicking the struggles of the other workers. He made sure to sweat, to grunt under the weight of the crates, even though they were nothing to him. When others complained about the job, he nodded along.
At night, he returned to the library, reading more about human emotions, politics, and even philosophy. Some of it confused him—why did humans complicate simple things? Why did they lie, even when it hurt them?
Still, the more he learned, the more he understood their world.

The Apartment
A few days later, he met Maya again at the café.
"You still living in that rundown motel?" she asked.
Kael-X hesitated before answering. "Yes."
Maya rolled her eyes. "Come on. Let me introduce you to my cousin."
She led him to a small apartment complex on the edge of the city. The building was old but well-maintained. Inside, a middle-aged man sat behind a desk, counting cash.
"This is my cousin, Elijah," Maya said.
Elijah barely glanced up. "You got money?"
Kael-X had earned enough from his job to afford a small room. He handed over the cash, and Elijah tossed him a key.
"Third floor, Room 12," he said.
Maya smirked. "Welcome to the neighborhood, Kael."
Kael-X climbed the stairs and entered his new space. It was small—just a bed, a chair, and a window overlooking the street. But for the first time since arriving on Earth, he had a place of his own.

Blending In
Now that he had a stable place to stay, Kael-X focused on blending in even more.
1. Clothing: He noticed that his black combat suit stood out. Maya took him shopping, and he bought casual human clothes—jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. He still kept his black gloves, though.
2. Hair: He tried trimming his hair at a barbershop, but he made sure it still covered his eyes. The barber commented on how he never looked up.
3. Mannerisms: He copied how people moved, how they laughed, how they spoke casually. He practiced emotions in front of a mirror, trying to make them feel real.
At first, it felt unnatural. But over time, it became easier.
Kael-X was no longer just an observer. He was becoming one of them.

A Taste of Normalcy
One evening, Maya invited him to hang out with a group of friends at a rooftop gathering. There was music, food, and casual conversations. Kael-X mostly listened, speaking only when necessary.
At one point, someone handed him a bottle of soda. "Try it," Maya said.
He took a sip. The carbonation tingled against his tongue, surprising him. It was… strange, but not unpleasant.
"You like it?" Maya asked.
Kael-X thought for a moment. Then, for the first time, he gave a small smile.
"Yes."
Maya grinned. "That's progress."
Kael-X wasn't sure what "progress" meant in this context. But for the first time since arriving on Earth, he didn't feel like an outsider.
He felt human.
