Chapter 55 – Deadeye: A sniper that never misses
Kael-X barely had time to recover before another shot ripped through the air. This time, he didn't dodge.
Instead, he let his shadows move for him.
Nyx flickered, its form stretching unnaturally, and the bullet passed harmlessly through a void of darkness.
Oblivion rumbled. "He's testing you. Measuring how fast you react."
Kael-X clicked his tongue. "Yeah, I figured."
The sniper wasn't shooting to kill. Not yet.
This was a game. A hunt.
BOOM!
Another shot. This one came from a different direction. A decoy?
Kael-X didn't dodge—he didn't need to.
Veyron moved instead.
The shadow beast's massive body twisted, absorbing the bullet into its swirling black mass before spitting it back out. The round whistled through the air, curving toward the sniper's hidden location.
A flash of movement.
The sniper was fast—too fast.
"Dammit," Kael-X muttered. Whoever this was, they were a step ahead. The bullet hit nothing but air.
Nyx chuckled. "I like this one. Can we keep him?"
Kael-X ignored it, his mind racing. If he couldn't find the sniper… he'd force them out.
He raised a hand. His shadow beasts spread out, vanishing into the city's ruins.
Then, he spoke a single word.
"Hunt."
---
The Ghostshot's POV
Perched atop a skeletal high-rise, the sniper—designation Theta-9—exhaled slowly, his augmented vision tracking Kael-X's every movement.
The target is adapting.
Interesting.
Most fell after a single shot. This one… was learning. Thinking.
Theta-9 adjusted his rifle. This wasn't just any mission. Zypheron-5 wanted Kael-X analyzed before elimination.
Too bad.
The next shot would end it.
He placed his finger on the trigger—
A sudden growl.
His body tensed.
Then—darkness exploded around him.
The sniper rolled away just in time, barely avoiding Veyron's massive jaws as they snapped where he had been. The beast's red eyes locked onto him, snarling.
Damn it.
How did it—?
A second presence loomed behind him.
Theta-9 whirled around, his rifle flipping into close-range mode, but it was too late.
Nyx whispered from the shadows.
"Checkmate."
A black tendril lashed out, slamming the sniper off the rooftop.
---
Kael-X Watched from Below
He grinned as Theta-9's body tumbled down the side of the building.
Before the sniper could crash, a shadowy claw caught him.
Kael-X stepped forward as Oblivion lifted the assassin into the air, pinning him like an insect.
"Alright," Kael-X said, tilting his head. "Let's talk."
The sniper laughed.
Blood dripped from his lip, but he smirked. "You think you've won?"
Kael-X frowned.
Theta-9's cybernetic eye blinked red.
Then Kael-X heard it—
A signal.
His eyes widened.
Zypheron-5 wasn't just watching. They were sending something.
And it was already here.
Kael-X's senses sharpened. The air shifted—something unnatural pulsed above him.
A deep hum vibrated through the city ruins. Low. Mechanical. Growing stronger.
Kael-X looked up.
And saw it.
The Zypheron-5 ship.
It wasn't the small scouting drones they had sent before. This was different. Bigger. Meaner.
A massive, circular craft hovered just beyond the clouds, its underside pulsating with eerie blue energy. Symbols flickered along its hull—Zypheron-5's mark of war.
Oblivion snarled. "They came faster than expected."
Kael-X's eyes narrowed. "Yeah… and they're not playing around this time."
The sniper Theta-9 grinned, despite being pinned by Oblivion's claws. Blood dripped from his mouth as he rasped, "Checkmate, Kael-X."
BOOM!
A shockwave rippled through the atmosphere. The ship's lower hatch opened, and something descended rapidly.
Not a bomb. Not a missile.
A man.
No—a warrior.
His armor gleamed silver and black, reflecting the artificial glow of Zypheron-5's technology. A helmet concealed his face, but Kael-X could feel the intensity of his gaze.
And in his hands…
A long-barreled rifle hummed with power.
Kael-X's eyes darkened. "Oh great, another sniper."
Theta-9 coughed out a weak laugh. "Not just any sniper. Zypheron-5's strongest. The Deadeye himself."
Kael-X barely had time to process that before the figure raised his rifle—
And fired.
---
A Shot Faster Than Thought
Kael-X moved on instinct.
His shadows lashed out, forming a defensive barrier—
But the bullet tore through them like paper.
The force slammed into Kael-X's shoulder, sending him flying back. He crashed into a ruined building, rubble collapsing around him.
His body screamed in pain. His regeneration kicked in immediately, but he felt it—
That bullet wasn't normal.
Oblivion growled, his voice vibrating through the shadows. "That shot was designed to kill YOU, Kael-X."
Kael-X spat out dust. "Yeah, I noticed."
He pushed himself up, eyes locking onto the new threat standing in the distance.
The Deadeye slowly lowered his rifle, his voice cold and metallic beneath the helmet.
"Kael-X of Zypheron-5… Your time is up."
---
Kael-X vs. The Deadeye – A Sniper Who Never Misses
Kael-X cracked his neck. This was bad.
Theta-9 was dangerous, but this guy was on another level.
Nyx whispered in amusement. "Ooooh, he's fun. Can we play with him?"
Kael-X's fingers curled into fists. "We're about to find out."
The Deadeye raised his rifle again.
Kael-X moved.
A fight unlike any other was about to begin.
Kael-X didn't hesitate. He vanished in a blur, his speed tearing through the ruined streets.
Boom!
Another shot fired—this time, Kael-X saw it.
Or rather, he tried to.
The bullet shifted mid-air, bending against the laws of physics. It corrected its trajectory, chasing him like a predator locked onto its prey.
Kael-X twisted sharply, shadows bursting from his body to distort his movement.
Too late.
The bullet pierced his side, an explosion of energy ripping through his torso.
He staggered, his body healing, but the wound burned differently.
Nyx cackled in his mind. "Oooooh, that one stings, doesn't it?"
Kael-X gritted his teeth. "Shut up, Nyx."
Oblivion, still crouched near the pinned Theta-9, growled. "Kael-X. Those bullets… they track you. Even shadows can't fully hide you from them."
The Deadeye slowly lowered his rifle, analyzing. He hadn't missed.
He never did.
Kael-X exhaled sharply, his mind racing. He needed a new strategy.
---
A Hunter Who Knows His Prey
The Deadeye's voice echoed through his helmet. "I know what you are, Kael-X. Shadows won't save you."
Kael-X smirked, wiping blood from his mouth. "Yeah? Then what will?"
The Deadeye lifted his rifle again. "Nothing."
Kael-X vanished.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Three shots fired in succession, each bullet curving toward him as he zipped through the battlefield.
But Kael-X was fast. Too fast.
The first bullet grazed his leg.
The second whizzed past his shoulder.
The third—
Kael-X grabbed it.
The moment his fingers touched the bullet, an immense force surged through his arm, sending a shockwave through his body.
It wasn't just speed. These bullets carried distortion energy, a technology Kael-X didn't fully recognize.
But one thing was clear—they were made specifically to kill him.
Kael-X's grip crushed the bullet into dust.
His golden eyes locked onto The Deadeye. "Alright. Now I'm interested."
---
Kael-X's Counterattack
Kael-X's four shadow beasts circled him, their presence rumbling through the air.
Oblivion spoke first. "We need to break his pattern. He predicts your movements."
Nyx giggled. "Oooor we could just eat him?"
The two other beasts—Voidfang and Tenebris—growled in agreement.
Kael-X smirked. "Alright then. Let's show him what real predators look like."
He charged.
The Deadeye fired instantly.
But Kael-X didn't dodge alone this time.
His shadows moved with him.
Oblivion leaped forward—intercepting the bullet mid-air and devouring it.
The Deadeye hesitated.
Kael-X was already closing the distance.
---
The Deadeye's Final Move?
For the first time, The Deadeye moved.
His rifle split apart, shifting into two pistol-like weapons, each glowing with deadly precision.
Kael-X grinned. "Oh? You're fast too?"
The Deadeye didn't answer. He just fired both guns at once.
Kael-X vanished into the shadows.
The air crackled with tension. The fight wasn't over. It was just getting started.
