I'll never forget the sound of Rachel's voice, shrill with anger and hurt, as she stood in the doorway of Alex's dorm room. We were caught off guard, our bodies entwined on the bed, our love for each other evident in every kiss, every touch.
"Alex, what's going on here?" Rachel demanded, her eyes blazing with fury.
Alex and I froze, our hearts racing in unison. We knew we'd been caught, and there was no denying the truth.
"Rachel, I..." Alex started, but his voice trailed off as he looked at me, then back at Rachel.
Rachel's eyes narrowed, her gaze fixed on me. "You're the one he's been sneaking around with, aren't you?" she spat, her voice venomous.
I felt a surge of guilt and shame, knowing that I'd contributed to Rachel's pain. "Rachel, I'm sorry," I said, trying to sound sincere.
But Rachel wasn't having it. "Sorry?" she repeated, her voice rising. "You're sorry? You're the one who's been screwing my boyfriend behind my back!"
The room fell silent, the tension palpable. Alex looked like he'd been punched in the gut, his eyes wide with fear and regret.
"Rachel, please listen," Alex said, trying to calm her down.
But Rachel was beyond reason. "No, I won't listen," she said, her voice cold and detached. "I'm done with you, Alex. And as for you," she turned to me, "you're just a slut who can't even respect someone else's relationship."
The words stung, but I knew I deserved them. I'd made a mistake, and now I had to face the consequences.
As Rachel stormed out of the room, Alex turned to me, his eyes filled with tears. "I'm so sorry, Maya," he said, his voice shaking. "I never meant for it to end like this."
I took his hand, feeling a sense of regret and sorrow. "It's not your fault, Alex," I said. "We both knew the risks. We just didn't expect to get caught."
As we sat there, holding hands and trying to process what had just happened, I knew that our love had just become a lot more complicated.
