Chapter 19 - A Ghost from the Past

As the night wore on, the energy in the bar shifted. The music grew louder, the drinks flowed freely, and the laughter turned wilder. Callie had lost count of how many cocktails Ava had ordered, but she was definitely feeling the buzz.

"Come on! Let's dance!" Ava squealed, grabbing Callie's hand before she could protest.

Callie hesitated, but the alcohol in her veins made her bold. She let herself be pulled onto the dance floor, the bass reverberating through her chest as she moved. Ava spun her around, twirling in excitement, and soon they were laughing, lost in the rhythm of the music.

Then, just as Callie turned, she felt it again—that familiar sensation of being watched. But this time, it wasn't Dave.

A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped onto the dance floor, his dark, piercing eyes locking onto hers. Her breath hitched.

Blake Wood.

The name echoed in her mind like a whisper from the past. He was someone she had known long ago, someone she had cared for—though they had never dated, he had always occupied a small space in her heart.

Before she could react, he was in front of her, offering that same charming smile she remembered all too well.

"Callie." His voice was deep, smooth, and laced with amusement. "Didn't expect to see you here."

Neither did she. But instead of answering, she let her body speak for her. The music took over, and before she knew it, she was dancing with him, their bodies moving in sync.

For a moment, she forgot about everything—her job, her heartbreak, and the intense gaze of a certain boss sitting in the corner. She let herself enjoy the moment, not caring who was watching.

But someone was.

And he didn't look pleased.
