Chapter 11: The Dwarven Blacksmith

"John, accompany me."

Inside the residence, Sean found John, the upper-Bronze rank captain of the guard, in the barracks.

"Lord Sean!" John scrambled to his feet. "Where would you have me escort you?"

"The Holy Light Church. I wish to thank the bishop."

"As you command." John strapped on his sword, following Sean outside.

Lost in thoughts of how to extract information from the bishop (and earn EXP), Sean wandered off course.

"Lord Sean!" John called. "The church lies this way." He gestured to a missed intersection.

"Apologies—distracted." Sean turned, spotting a Dwarven blacksmith's shop down the alley.

Perfect opportunity to study Dwarves. With time to spare, he entered.

"Wait—shall I join you?" John asked. But Sean was already inside.

The smithy's owner, a stocky Dwarf whose chest reached Sean's sternum, pounded red-hot iron. His massive arms and barrel chest spoke of decades at the forge.

Halting mid-strike, he wiped sweat with a towel. "Noble sir! I am Bach Copperhammer. How may I serve?"

"I seek farming tools and armor for my fief." Sean improvised. Can't admit I'm here to gawk at Dwarves.

"A landholder?" Bach straightened. Landed barons outranked even titleless viscounts in Lane Duchy.

"Yes. I need 400–500 tools. Can you supply them?"

Bach's eyes lit. "Individually, no. But with neighboring smiths, we'll deliver quality tools swiftly!"

"Show me samples."

"This way." Bach led him past weapon racks. "These are my apprentices' practice pieces, but they meet my standards."

"Dwarven craftsmanship is legendary." Sean flattered.

"Indeed! I'm Yorn's finest commoner blacksmith. My gear uses ancient Dwarven techniques—always in demand. See this chainmail? Tightest links in the city. And this blade—forged from hundred-layer steel. This bow? Fused with a magic beast tendon and a lower-Bronze rank magic core. A masterpiece— not for sale, but worth 40 gold."

Sean nodded appreciatively, though he couldn't judge quality. "Where is your homeland, Master Copperhammer? What is Dwarven society like?"

Ah—his true motive: earn EXP through cultural immersion.

Bach launched into a 30-minute lecture: Dwarven kingdoms eight times the size of Lane, their mountain strongholds, and even obscure history—the Lion Clan's overthrow by the Violet family, expunged from human records but known to Dwarves.

Leaving the shop, Sean's EXP bar glowed: Level10 6/100Five EXP in half an hour! He resolved to return.
