**Chapter 44: Ghost Sister, Let Me Explain!**

Xu Yang's intervention swiftly resolved the standoff.

Ma Long's parents watched him with newfound reverence. Though they'd always treated him as a junior, there was now an unspoken awe in their eyes.

Ma Zhongguo quickly summoned workers to cut through the concrete. The crew hesitated, trembling at the thought of angering the ghost.

"Don't worry," Xu Yang reassured. "You're helping her return home. She won't harm you."

As power tools whirred, the ghost nervously bit her translucent fingers. "Careful! Don't scratch my golden nanmu coffin!"

The workers froze at her disembodied voice.

Xu Yang raised an eyebrow. "Golden nanmu? You came from wealth."

"Naturally!" The ghost preened. "My family were merchants for generations. I even studied abroad!"

When the intricately carved coffin emerged, the ghost threw herself protectively over it. "This is my home! Touch it and I'll—"

"If I wanted your coffin, I'd have destroyed you already," Xu Yang interrupted dryly.

Arranging transportation, Xu Yang had the priceless coffin loaded onto a truck. The ghost phased inside, clinging to her earthly possession like a mother hen.

────

Back at the funeral shop, Ma Long knocked on Xu Yang's car window. "You're really taking her home? What about... you know... *the other one*?"

Xu Yang's smile faltered. The ghost queen's icy glare flashed in his mind.

────

Midnight shadows clung to the funeral parlor as Xu Yang unrolled the shutter. A bone-chilling yin wind greeted them—the ghost queen hovered on the stairs, her crimson dress billowing without breeze.

Yang Yin (the red ghost) turned to stone. "*G-g-ghost King...*"

Before Xu Yang could speak, the spectral monarch vanished upstairs.

"Ghost Sister! Let me explain!" Xu Yang bounded after her, leaving Yang Yin quaking in the doorway.

────

Upstairs, the ghost queen's hair lashed like angry serpents. Crimson characters burned across the walls: ***"Bringing home strays now? Should I prepare a dog bed?"***

Xu Yang raised his hands placatingly. "She's temporary! Just until her reburial!"

***"Liar."*** The characters flared. ***"You want to collect us like porcelain dolls!"***

From downstairs, Yang Yin's whimper floated up: "I-I can sleep in my coffin! Really!"

The ghost queen's glare could freeze hell. Xu Yang's Virtue Points counter began rapidly ticking upward as the two ghosts' mutual terror fed the system.

*Ding!*

*"Dual Ghost Panic. Virtue Points +100 per second."*

Xu Yang hid a grin. This arrangement might be more profitable than he'd imagined.
