Ch 211 : Betray Tsaritsa

Su Yuan felt that something was off about the current situation.

The Kamisato Ayato before them had noticeable flaws and inconsistencies in his appearance—judging by that alone, he shouldn't be the real Ayato…

And yet, he seemed to know everything about the Kamisato clan and the Yashiro Commission like the back of his hand.

He could even perform Ayato's signature sword techniques flawlessly—even Kamisato Ayaka acknowledged that.

But Ayaka had also said she personally witnessed her brother die at the hands of the Raiden Shogun.

Could someone really come back from the dead?

Su Yuan suddenly recalled meeting Hanachirusato and Kitsune Saiguu earlier that day.

By all logic, both of them should've long passed on, and yet, they'd mysteriously reappeared…

Could Kamisato Ayato be in a similar state as them?

"Kamisato Ayato," Su Yuan asked, staring at him, "you say you want to help the Shogun achieve true Eternity. Then why don't you tell us—what exactly is it that the Raiden Shogun is trying to accomplish?"

Ayato smiled faintly and replied, "I'm sorry, but for now, I can't tell you that."

"All you need to know is—I won't hurt any of you."

"What the Shogun is doing is for the good of Inazuma. Everything she does is absolutely right!"

Everyone exchanged doubtful glances at this version of Ayato.

The way he spoke made him seem brainwashed, like he was completely devoted to the Raiden Shogun.

Su Yuan turned to look at Ayaka again.

Her clear blue eyes stirred something in his memory…

Didn't he see those exact same eyes before, at the Statue of the Omnipresent God?

Come to think of it, the Raiden Shogun clearly had her eyes on Kamisato Ayaka's eyes, yet Ayaka managed to return completely unharmed.

That in itself was rather strange…

"So, Kamisato Ayaka, back then—what exactly happened?" Su Yuan asked.

"Su Yuan, please don't ask…" Thoma said worriedly.

"Whenever the young lady tries to recall what happened during that time, her mental state starts to deteriorate…"

"It's all right," Ayaka said, gently raising a hand to indicate she was fine.

"Now that my brother is back, I can face what happened back then."

She took a breath and began:

"At the time, I was imprisoned by the Shogun. The deadline she had given my brother to retrieve rare eyes was about to run out…"

"Then, in a fury, my brother appeared before the Shogun and challenged her directly."

"I saw it with my own eyes—he was cut clean in half by the Shogun's sword strike…"

Cut in half? Su Yuan was confused.

If Kamisato Ayato had been bisected by the Raiden Shogun, how could he still have a whole body?

Ayaka took a deep breath and continued:

"After that, the Shogun picked up a small ornate box from my brother's body. She opened it and took out two eyes, then said something with a touch of sentiment in her voice: 'Such beautiful eyes… Why would someone with these choose to defy me?'"

"I saw those two eyes clearly. They were exactly the same as mine…"

"I believe my brother must've seen them too—he probably thought the Shogun had already taken my eyes. That's why he lost control and challenged her…"

"So at the time, I was really confused… Where exactly did my brother get those eyes from..."

"Later, the Shogun embedded those eyes into the Statue of One Thousand Arms and One Hundred Eyes… and then released me."

Everyone was visibly puzzled after hearing Ayaka's words...

If Ayaka herself was standing here unharmed, then the pair of eyes that resembled hers must have been fake—fabricated.

But didn't the Raiden Shogun have zero tolerance for such counterfeit eyes?

Why would she willingly accept a fake pair that looked like Ayaka's, and even go as far as to embed them into the Statue of One Thousand Arms and One Hundred Eyes?

Could it be that those eyes were actually the real Ayaka's eyes—

and the one standing before them now was the fake?

Everyone looked at each other in confusion, unsure of what to say…

................

"Rostam…"

Rosalyne murmured Rostam's name as she slowly opened her eyes…

She tried moving her neck and arms—though she could control them freely, there was an indescribable sense of strangeness…

Her head throbbed with intense pain.

Her final memory remained fixed on the moment she lost the ceremonial duel against the Traveler—on the blinding thunderous light between the blade of the Raiden Shogun…

Rosalyne knew very well that, even as the Eighth of the Fatui Harbingers, "The Lady," there was absolutely no way she could have survived such a strike.

Not even ashes should have been left behind…

And yet now, how had she come back to life?

Her mind drifted back to the day long ago when she met with "The Jester."

On that day, she had vowed to sever all ties to the past—to forsake every bond.

She bound what remained of her life to her Delusion, burning like a scorpion, fully dedicating herself to the battle against the gods and the Abyss…

And yet now, the name she still called out—was "Rostam."

What Rosalyne most wanted to know now was… how had she come back to life?

And if even she could return—

Then perhaps… Rostam could, too?

As Rosalyne was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a voice from nearby:

"Rosalyne, long time no see."

She turned towards the voice and saw a man with green hair, wearing a bird-beak mask.

"'The Doctor' Dottore?" Rosalyne gave a puzzled expression.

"Why are you here? Did you somehow bring me back to life?"

"Indeed, that's the case," Dottore replied with a slight smile, speaking slowly.

"However, I've already betrayed Tsarista and am no longer the Second Harbinger, 'The Doctor'…"

"You actually dared to betray Her Majesty?"

"Heh, and what right do you have to criticize me? Didn't you also swear to forsake your past for Tsarista? Yet, when you woke up, didn't you still whisper Rostam's name?"

Dottore spoke as he removed his bird-beak mask, his face breaking into a smile, and his red eyes gazed at Rosalyne as he continued:

"Rosalyne, since I've already succeeded in bringing you back to life, do you believe I can do the same for your beloved Rostam?"

"Or rather, would you be willing to betray Tsarista for Rostam?"

Without a moment's hesitation, Rosalyne answered directly:

"In the past, for Rostam, I spent all my tears and song, vowing to burn every demon in this world…"

"I believed in the ever-pure, immaculate kingdom he spoke of, willing to sacrifice everything for it…"

"The reason I chose to serve Tsarista was because her ideals seemed to be the most noble and pure in this world, reminding me of the vision of that pure kingdom Rostam spoke of…"

"But now, since such a possibility exists, I would rather be with Rostam, to witness it all firsthand!"

"Even if it means betraying Tsarista!"
