The fire

OLIVIA STAFFORD

"Such a weirdo"

I mumbled, removing my earrings and carefully placing them on the table.

My encounter with the green haired man kept on playing in my head.

what did he mean by that.

I wondered.

I clenched my fists, Did he think I had come here willingly?.

I would have escaped from this place if opportuned but I couldn't.

My mother was still in the Stafford manor.

Only God knows what would happen to her if I messed up.

I was scared if my father and the beast he had become.

I was scared of what br would really do to my mother.

she was the only true family that i had left and i didn't want anything bad to befall her.

"Maybe I should write a letter to her,she would probably be looking for me by now" I mumbled

"can you get me a some writing materials?" I asked the maidnand she nodded and hurried off.

a few moments later, she came back with paper and some ink, with a writing brush.

when I was younger and still staying in the same quarters with my mother, she jad thought me how to read and write in the official language and I was very grateful to her about it.

A few minutes later, i sealed the letter with a stamp and placed in an envelope, handing it over to the maid.

"Can you find someone to deliver this to the Stafford manor?" i asked politely and she nodded.

she took the letter and hurried away.

I sighed in relief.

I hope mother is fine.

....

That chocking feeling.

sleepily, I used the pillow to cover my nose, because of what I was perceiving but it didn't work.

instead, I began to feel hot, almost as if I was in a fire.

Fire?

my eyes snapped open as I hurriedly sat up from the bed with wide eyes.

all signs and symptoms if sleep fleeing instantly

indeed the room was covered with smoke and i could see the yellow flames licking the wardrobe.

my heart skipped a beat as I thought of what to do.

how did a fire start so suddenly.

I thought.

"Now is not the time to think Olivia, you have to escape from here" I said to myself.

I stood up from the bed, taking the heavy bed sheets which I used to cover my nose so I wouldn't inhale any smoke.

I knew that smokes from fire was very dangerous, in fact, my nursing maid had died fron a fire and I had seen how it had ruined her.

with great speed, I ran to the door and flung it open, hurriedly throwing myself on the floor as I screamed.

"fire!, there's a fire!!"

almost as if on cuel, a group of guards rushed towards me with wide eyes.

"where is the fire?" one of them asked.

I was tempted to roll my eyes at him just I didn't, instead I pointed towards my room for him.

three rushed back to bring buckets of water as they poured it into the blazing room..

I stood by the side, watching then out out the monstrous flames.

By now, most of the young ladies were already awake from the ruckus and had come to see what was going on.

among them was Caelith .

"are you okay Olivia?" Caelith asked immediately she sighted me.

she toiched my whole body, inspecting and reinspecting, making sure i didn't have a single scratch on me.

i nodded my head, assuring her that I was fine.

a few minutes later, the soldiers were done putting out the flame with the help of the Maids.

"How did a fire start in your room?" Someone asked.

I shook my head, puzzled at the question.

"I don't know,I just opened my eyes and saw thsg everywhere was on fire" I replied.

"You are quite lucky" Caelith said "if you hadn't woken up, you would have burned to death In your sleep" she said.

k shivered at that thought as goosebumps rose on my skin.

"Sorry for the disturbance ladies, you all can go back to sleep " the head soldier said in a polite tone, bowing to the ladies.

most of them didn't mind while some were offended but theh still went to their chambers.

at last, it was only I , my maids, Caelith and her soldiers were in the hallway.

"you will have to sleep in another room tonight then tomorrow, the matter will be presented before the king" The head soldier Said to me In a serious tone.

I nodded my head "What about the fire, will it be investigated?" I asked him.

he paused and stared at me "There's nothing to be investigated, it was probably a careless mistake from your part" he said, I could sense annoyance in his voice

I frowned "What do you mean by that, are you insinuating that I was the one that set my own room on fire?" I asked in disbelief.

he looked at me with a sigh "I didn't mean it that way mg lady, I just think you might have left one of your burning candles and went to sleep " he explained.

I furrowed my brows, lowering my head.

what he had said might be possible but it wasn't true and I knew that very well.

I hated the smell of the scented candles so I had made sure to snuff it out myself once I had finished writing the letter to my mum.

but it was already late at night and I didn't want to involve myself in an argument with the soldiers so I sighed and nodded my head.

"Okay"

Tomorrow, i would make sure I get to the roots of this fire.
