It took him eight hours before he could see a big mountain and a city nestled underneath it.
It was clear that there is a sect at the top of the mountain, but he wasn't sure if it was actually the Sky Heaven Sect or something else.
Xuan had never travelled outside of his previous sect, and the only other place he knew was the village where his parents still lived.
As he drew closer to the city, Xuan began following the people entering the city. "Brother, which sect is that?" Xuan asked the man walking closest to him.
In return, the man glared at Xuan. "Is this your first time traveling outside? You're at the gates of Sky Heaven City and asking if that's the Sky Heaven Sect? Brother, don't joke around."
The man casually moved forward, leaving Xuan behind. Xuan laughed and began following the man, then asked another question, "Brother, are you here to join the sect?" The man paused and looked at Xuan.
"It's obvious. Why do you think I, you, and those around us are gathering at Sky Heaven City?" He again rudely answered Xuan, but Xuan smiled, "Your mood seems off. Is something bothering you?"
The man paused for a little, then sighed. "You've called me brother, and you aren't even from nearby, so let me tell you this," his tone became serious.
"I heard that Fairy Yan isn't in the sect, which means that if I fail to become a disciple of the sect, I won't be able to see her."
His eyes twinkled with a spark of love. Xuan, who was expecting some serious issue, felt bewildered when he heard him.
"Is this all for a woman?" he muttered, but the man heard him and got angry.
"She isn't some ordinary woman, but Fairy Yan. Well, ignorant people like you won't even know what a woman is."
He mocked, waiting for Xuan to get angry, but Xuan laughed. "Okay, okay, I get it. Isn't it better to do your best and enter the sect so you can see her every day?"
"Huh, do you think it's that easy to become a disciple of the Sky Heaven Sect? Look there." He pointed towards the stairs.
"Climbing those stairs is a challenge in itself, and then you have to pass two more assessments before you can become a disciple of the Sky Heaven Sect."
"It doesn't seem that hard to me." Xuan spoke while looking at the stairs.
"Ignorant, truly ignorant," the man said, looking at Xuan before turning to leave.
"Mo Jin, stay away from this man, he doesn't feel like good news to me." The man muttered and dashed inside the city, while Xuan could only sigh and laugh at him.
Following the others, Xuan stopped at the ground beside the stairs leading up to the mountain.
He looked around to see three stalls, and people were lining up at them. "Outer Sect" and "Inner Sect" were written on two banners above the first two stalls.
Then, he looked at the third stall, which was farther away from the other two and positioned in the middle, where both lines converged.
A man standing in the sect's clothes was calling out with a loud voice, "If you are below the Qi Awakening stage, then line up at the first stall. If you are at the Qi Awakening stage or above, but below the Core Establishment stage, then line up at the second stall."
Without wasting any time, Xuan joined the line, and after exactly one hour of waiting, it was his turn. The middle-aged man, who seemed to be a sect elder, didn't even look at Xuan and asked, "Name, cultivation and affiliation?"
Xuan nonchalantly answered, "Ye Xuan, and my cultivation is at the 9th level Qi Refinement stage and Rogue cultivator."
The elder suddenly looked up at the deep voice of Xuan, and when he saw him, he confirmed his cultivation.
The elder was surprised, as such a young man who wasn't part of any sect had reached the 9th level Qi Refinement stage at such a young age.
He became suspicious of Xuan, though in the back of his mind, he thought that Xuan could be the son of a hidden clan. However, Xuan's clothing didn't give the impression that he was from such a background.
Xuan saw the elder's gaze and asked, "Is there something wrong?" The elder came out of his daze and shook his head, "No, all is fine. You can join the line."
Xuan nodded and joined the third line, which marked the beginning of the real assessment. At the head of the stall, three elders were seated, calling disciples to put their hands on the mirror.
If the mirror glowed, they passed; if it didn't, they failed. However, this was only for those in the first line.
For those in the second line, they were instructed to drop a blood droplet into the crystal ball beside the mirror, which was also an artifact used to assess others.
Soon Xuan's turn came, and the elder sitting in the middle, stroking his beard, spoke, "Ye Xuan, 9th level Qi Refinement stage. You are indeed a talent to reach the peak of Qi Refinement stage at such a young age."
Then his gaze turned to Xuan, "Put a single drop of your blood on this artifact, and it will show if you are capable of joining the Sky Heaven Sect or not."
Xuan followed the lead and pour a single drop of his blood on the crystal which begin to shimmer white then turned yellow. Orange then red and stops at the red.
Xuan, who didn't know what the colour meant, looked at the three elders, who were shocked at the result.
The elder on the left looked at the old elder in the middle, "Elder, am I seeing the same thing as you are?"
The elder in the middle nodded and looked at Xuan, "Ye Xuan, what is your family background?" His question was direct, which surprised Xuan.
